Abeokuta is not a town but a city. Far far bigger than Port Harcourt, almost 3 times bigger than Uyo, twice bigger than Calabar, bigger than all the state capitals in South South and South East.

Do you know that Abeokuta South Local Government is the first LG is Nigeria, it is due to the country-like governance structure the colonialists met. It took a while before they amalgamated Abeokuta as a part of the British colony. I have beautiful plans for my hometown and Ogun State. They need to rearchitect that city in every sense of the word.
south western states are very populated. i saw ibadan too and was shocked with how crowed it was. those flyovers were built by amosun who built alot of them in ogun state.
I think it’s mostly the capital though. A lot of people from all over Nigeria move to west a lot. But over all I feel the south east is densely populated than the west. Video is nice

While SW tend to build less storey buildings and Continue to spread out. Besides most people in SW prefers to be their own landlord rather than be a tenant. And another reason is that people from different parts of the country tends to relocate to SW a lot.

Onitsha was founded in 1550, that's almost 500 years ago. I'd say Kano is ancient, and Onitsha is very old. Abeokuta on the other hand, is younger than most cities in America (USA).
