Another great guitarist that came out around the same time and also was 15 yrs old was Kenny Wayne Sheppard. His biggest song was Blue On Black. Check him out.
KWS is bad ass. Saw him three times so good.
Blue on black worst song ever!!
I hate it more than ice ice @@@@& lol
You are joking right? Say that you are joking..
Im 68 and still listen to his music. I have his first 3 albums. Starting in 1996 and gonig to 2003. A true child virtuous.
65 yo here!
Call it an anomaly,a diamond in the rough,or a miracle, but one things for certain, this kid was born with sheer talent. So amazing!!!.
I saw him live when he was 19/20, 10/10. A memory ill never forget
just was hard to comprehend that he was 15!how he could do this! simply amazing!
Found this kid when he started - he was known for being a guitar prodigy - fantastic guitarist even back then , this and his next release I think were possibly his best - I luv his song = still raining .
Rack Em Up is another great Johnny Lang song.
The album Lie To Me was released January 28, 1997 and Jonny was born January 29, 1981. So the album was definitely recorded while 15, being released the day before his 16th birthday. I think the age confusion (being 15 or 16) stems from being 16 when making TV appearances and touring to promote the album.
Great tune. Jonny is 42 now and sadly is having big vocal cord issues, we wish him well. 'Matchbox' is another tune of his I quite like. Cheers.
Johnny Lang has another great one called "Still Raining'. Same era of his career, he just kills it.
Jonny was 15 when the album was recorded, and it was released a day before his 16th birthday.
Jonny will be 43 in Jan, hard to believe he was just a kid in that video ✌💖☮
Now that you have heard this one, try Is It Still Raining. Both great tunes.
I saw him in 98 in Indianapolis at the shriners theater... That was about the last music I took to along with Kenney Wayne Shepherd another young one... It was a changing point in music and both of them were like throwbacks to the blues. After that, I pretty much checked out on new music. Sorry, I'm old school can't stand rap with a very few exceptions. But I simply could not believe his age when he did this. It was fantastic at the shriners also.
This whole album is worth a listen.
Ah the child prodigy has made his way to you. He was a 15 year old in this. Where he gets a seasoned bluesman voice at that age is beyond me.
Crazy he was just a teenager doing this!! Always loved this song and his stuff.
Before this at age 14 he was playing in his area, and was known as Kid Lang..for obvious reasons. The blonde girl on the couch rocking out is his little sister.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd was another young blues artist worth checking out.
Am I happy that y’all are reacting to this amazing songwriter, vocalist and supreme guitarist! Much more to explore with this guy. Now I’m going to get back to watch your reaction!
Try It's Still Raining also!!!
From St.Paul, Mn. Grew up minutes from were I live. Amazing talent
Wonderful Reaction As Always Nice Trivia Find !!! Mom & the Sisters. Always loved this Song. Johnny’s Guitar🎸Face 😂😂😂is Legendary Glad You Both Enjoyed
having a beer in a late night Bar in Zhuhai China 2003 after a long day and "Sti;; Rining" Johnny Lang came on loud and blew my soxks off! bought his album as soon as I got back to Sydney!
The female back up singer is Becca Bramlett. Daughter of Bonnie Bramlett who is a great singer also. Bonnie, formally with Delaney and Bonnie. Clapton played with them. Becca has sang with many different groups and artists including Fleetwood Mac, The Zoo.
Saw Johnny Lang in a small venue a few years ago. The man is Awsome on all levels. Want to see more of him.
The woman singing backup vocals was Bekka Bramlett. She's the daughter of the singing couple Delaney & Bonnie so she comes by her great voice honestly. You should hear Bonnie cover Janis Joplin's Piece of My Heart.
Beat me to it!! LOL!! I had the honor of seeing Becca perform here in Nashville at a blues club my band was doing a set at. Monster energy!! It's like she was hooked up to a high voltage charge wire while performing.
Came in early 90's loved him ever since 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Even more crazy is that he didn't start playing the guitar till he was 13🤯
Totally forgot about this guy!!! I used to rock out with this!!!! Thanks for the reminder!!!!!
This song, along with some others on that album, was written by Bruce McCabe - one of the best keyboardists to come out of the Twin Cities. In the mid 1990s, McCabe fronted a band called The Hoopsnakes. "Jonny Lang and the Big Bang" opened for The Hoopsnakes at one point and Bruce McCabe was (rightly!) quite impressed. McCabe later joined Jonny Lang's band and wrote a number of their songs.
McCabe was a long time member of the Lamont cranston band which was a favorite of the Blues Brothers who frequently crashed their gigs at the Caboose bar in MPLS
I think we all know how great JL is, I would also say the backup female vocals were very soul sounding too and really complimented the tune!
His sister Jessie Langseth was a finalist on Season 5 of American Idol with Chris Daughtry.
album Smokin' when Lang was 14. He was signed to A&M Records in 1996.[1] He released Lie to Me on January 28, 1997.[1] The next album, Wander this World, was released on October 20, 1998, and earned a Grammy nomination. This was followed by the more soulful Long Time Coming on October 14, 2003. Lang also made a cover of Edgar Winter's "Dying to Live". Lang's 2006 album, the gospel-influenced Turn Around, won him his first Grammy Award.[4]
The whole album is great
he was in Blues Brothers 2000
great song & appreciate your reaction. a must hear is his RED LIGHT.
Love Jonny Lang he has more!
Long ago when Lang and Kenny Wayne Sheppard were killing it.
Saw him open for Buddy Guy a few yrs back. Good set.
Love this song. Great guitarist.
I saw him in 2018. He started for Buddy Guy. They were both great!
I only knew him from the movie Blues Brothers 2000. He wouldn't have been in that if he wasn't talented. So, I'm not surprised that this is really good.
Love it. I had to check.
I thought this was Taj Farrant's voice. Similar style, similar voice. Taj would be the only one who could do this song justice.
I saw Jonny Lang do a free concert at Hard Rock Universal City right when this song came out. I know right at the same time he went on tour with BB King and Aerosmith and yes, he was 16. Ah-may-zing!!!
The whole album is fantastic.
Still Rainin & breaking me
Yes definitely check out the song “Matchbox”. Great bluesy tune.
When the Lie to Me album came out, he got booked into the House of Blues in LA. When he arrived, they found out he was too young to be inside the building due to liquor laws. Plan B was to move him to an outdoor venue.
Another Jonny Lang song, “Still Raining “ is a must listen!! Also, you have to listen to the Tateishi trucks band. Derek trucks is a guitar prodigy. Susan Tedeschi is a true gem. Listen to their song.”Midnight Up In Harlem””
The background singer with the huge pipes is Becca Bramlett. She's part of music royalty. She's the daughter of Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett. There were TONS of songs they recorded, or wrote for other artists. That's a neat little side trip you might want to take.
I saw him when he was just hitting the scene in 95 or 96 opening for Aerosmith. Fantastic performer, I have seen him live a few times since and he doesn't disappoint.
Kid Johnny Lang when he first started, from North Dakota.
Mom and his sisters!
Red Light 🔥🔥🔥
You gotta play "Rack 'em up" ... great story-telling.
His first album kid jonny lang and the big band was released when he was 14
The family member is the blonde backup singer, her name is Jesse and tried out for American Idol.
He was just a kid at 15 when he recorded this and released the song and started touring. He was 16 when he made a national TV appearance on Conan O'Brien. He was probably 15 when he did this video to promote the video.
I'm so glad you enjoyed listening to Jonny Lang. I'm a bit surprised you two hadn't heard his music, since he's from up around your neck of the woods...North Daykota. He released five studio albums, so he has a collection of work to check out, if interested. If you'd like to check out another blues rock band that's actively playing today, then I'd suggest "Tedeschi Trucks Band - Midnight In Harlem (Live on eTOWN)" (by the channel: eTOWN) --Tedeschi Trucks Band is an American southern blues rock, jam band from Jacksonville, Florida the band was formed in 2010 and the band is led by married couple Susan Tedeschi (lead vocals, guitar) and Derek Trucks who is a masterful guitarist and is a beast with the slide and some consider him to be one of the OG's. I would say Duane Allman's smiling down from above every time he hears Derek play. This was nice guys thanks for sharing.
He was preforming at Disney until his voice changed.
His sisters were in the video. Born and raised in Fargo, ND
Touch, still raining, long time coming, red light, so many, yes sir 15 ,16, year old been with his career since he started the levee, dive deep on this great tunes matchbox, rack em up , the letter,
Only 15 when he released this, the talent of this guy. Talking of voices, please check out Paolo Nutini and his live version of Iron Sky. Keep up the great reactions 😊
Kenny Wayne Sheppard's song Blue on Black is a song you are would like.....a bluesy guitar based song
He reminds me of young Joe Cocker! Have not heard this song in a while great blues rock. Thank you
Great choice! There were several about that time that were much younger then one thought they were. Kenny Wayne Shepard was another around 16 or 17 when he cut his first album. You might try "Blue On Black" by Kenny and a couple years later the band Days of the New hit the charts with "Touch, Peel and Stand and the two oldest members of the band were 18 when it was recorded. Two more you should give a listen to.
Glad to hear this one. Love this guy. He hasn't been around now for a few years as his voice is messed up. But hey, he gave us 20+ years. I also like When I Come To You off this same album I guess its the sax. He actually had only been playing guitar since he was 12-13. He came out around the time Kenny Wayne Shepherd did. He is another great guitarist who started at an early age. Blue On Black was his first major hit. ✌🤘
Imagine if Jonny grew up in the RUclips, Tiktok, era
Would have been beyond huge
Another suggestion Kenny Wayne Shepherd, blues rock
You guys you guys mentioned that you are starting to get into the blues and jazz lately I have seen you guys do a couple of reactions to Diana Ankudinova and just want to mention she has a new song out and it is extremely blues and jazz and with her voice you could only imagine what is going to sound like it is mind blowing as always just wanted to put that out there. The name of the song is in my city just in case. Have a great day.
I think you would really enjoy R.E.O Speedwagon. Roll with the changes
Are you kidding me this dude is 15 👍
If you liked this try Blue on Black by Kenny Wayne Sheppard
If you haven't already check out his first album Smokin' by Kid Jonny Lang and The Big Bang. Please react to the song Changes. Better yet react to the whole album. He plays in this band with his guitar teacher, wasn't fourteen yet. Amazing. Love your videos. Two sisters and his mom.

As far as I recall, Phil and Sam, I believe that Johnny was 16 at the time this song was released. He may have been 15 at the time it was originally recorded, but I'm pretty sure that by the time it first got radio airplay, he'd turned 16
I know that you usually only take requests from your Patreon , but I would like to suggest a band called Wet Willie and their song Keep on Smiling
Check out Still Rainin’ and Walkin’ Away. He’s awesome.
Also, another great blues dude is Joe Bonamassa. Check out I’ll Play The blues for you and Going Down. Live at the Greek Theater. He’s one of the best around.
Blues Brothers 2000 the movie came out, there are two things new came out with me watching it. Johnny Lang had a few minutes singing and playing a little guitar, also a group called The blues Traveler's is a very good group.
He was supposed to be the SRV replacement after his death.
You should listen to "My Hero" by Foo Fighters ft. Shane Hawkins. It's amazing and emotional, and I highly recommend it.
「This kid can play the blues」
B B King
Hi Paul & Sam, Great blues player when you think of the blues a few artist come to mind but maybe the guy who was the first may be Robert Johnson who was her for a short time but left us some memories like Cross Road Blues, Walking Blues, Hellhound On My Trail and one we heard Sweet Home Chicago🎸
It's "Phil" and Sam, actually. 😁
I’m 54 and I can’t get into bars either. I keep getting thrown out
He played a lot with BB King when he was that age
Check out walking away. And bring a tissue.
His father
INCORRECT, SORRY. His Mom is not in the video, it was a rumor.
It was his sister twins!
I'm going to guess on your question how many are in his family I'm guessing all of them?
Johnny is pushing the wah peddle hard.
Another great young singer is Shannon Kurfman
16
yeah he was 15. 35 yrs ago lmao
If you want to react to someone who was even younger than Johnny.
A kid who took the world by storm with his very first/debut song, check out "Billy Gilman". Song, "One Voice". He was only 11yo when it was released! 😯
You guys need to check out Stevie Ray Vaughan, he will blow your mind!

review anukrit 13 year old sing cherry cherry lady
Jonny’s been having some issues with his voice. He hasn’t played live since 2017. Too bad - my man can sing and rip on the guitar.
he's now lost that voice, maybe for good. sadly.
