Fantastic improvisation! My sister-in-law had some relatives from Japan visit her in Sydney one Xmas some years ago. None spoke English and it was a quiet lunch, until I played a simple version of Sukiyaki which I heard in school as a kid. They were so surprised I knew the song and from then on there was free flowing conversation with much interpretation going on. The power of music to bridge gaps is amazing!
When you have a strong classical foundation to support a brilliant jazz mind pianist, good finger and tone control and great improvising, you get Hiromi. Not a lot of jazz player are jazz monster who was locked and put into classical at early age, when she came out of the cage she let her mind loose and you have one of the best modern pianist today.

Hiromi is my hero! I have had the great privilege of seeing her wizardry in person. She magically pulls continuity from chaos! I listen to her all the time at home. Her love for the music is totally contagious. She's equally a virtuoso in slow, dreamy melodies and in explosions of energy. Her fingers are fast, but her mind is moving faster! AMAZING!
I love Hiromi so much. Boy would I like to see her put together another trio featuring Senri Kawaguchi on drums and Mohini Dey on bass. She would have a blast writing a few songs with them.
