  • Before Disney California Adventure, before Downtown Disney, before 'New' Tomorrowland, this Point-Of-View (POV) monorail ride in a Mark V front cab captures views no longer seen at the Disneyland Resort. You'll see the Skyway through the Matterhorn, Peoplemovers in Tomorrowland, the original parking lot and Disneyland Hotel Station. Come along for a ride, it's May 7, 1991! For more monorail videos, please visit my channel by clicking above on my name. For more monorail information, visit The Monorail Society at monorails.org (note the 's' in monorails).

    BIGGEST parking lot I ever saw!!! We stayed nearby at the Heidi Motel. Both gone now and I will always cherish the memories of this Disneyland that we see in this video.

    That voice narration immediately takes me back to my childhood. I don't ever recall riding the Monorail....but I was around to be at Disneyland in 1991. Damn. Nostalgia!!! Love it!

    This is how I remember the Monorail and the cast member/public parking lots when I worked there. Look how empty it was then.

    This brings back so many memories! I was 16 years old in 1991. My family used to go to Disneyland frequently.

      Veronica Panella i was four-ish, in ‘91. We went pretty regularly, too, a few times a year with several other people. It was easier to afford back then

      I wish I was 16 in 1991. Or better yet, 1988. Then I could've enjoyed something like this at the age I am right now in the 90's or something.

    "Disneyland will be open until 6pm this evening."
    Damn, I can't even remember the last time Disneyland closed that early.

      In show business tradition, (think Broadway) Walt had Disneyland "dark" on Mondays and Tuesdays... for scheduled maintenance out of view 😊 I enjoyed having my lunch in some pretty peaceful locations. Fond memories of the past, indeed.

    This was the last great era for the Disneyland Monorail System. While I miss the wide expanse of the old parking lot, the Mark Vs were built with greater attention to the needs of the pilots who operated them compared to the Mark VIIs of today.

    so much to love about this video. most of all it was shot 2 days before my 30th birthday! i had an annual pass at this time, and went constantly (with no reservation needed!) so there's a good chance i was there that day. i miss the way the "disneyland resort" used to be. i'm not a big fan of dca or downtown disney. i used to ride my bike to the park across the 100 acre parking area,and lock it right next to the main gate. so many great memories of that time.

      Robert Leabow Thanks Robert. The monorail originally opened in 1959 and as you said, remained within Tomorrowland primarily. The system was expanded to the Disneyland Hotel in 1961. The Disneyland Hotel Station was rebuilt and reopened as the Downtown Disney Station in 2001,

    GREAT video and thanks for sharing! What nostalgia before everything changed. That parking lot was the LARGEST that I had ever seen in my life and our Heidi Motel was to the south of it on Katella Ave. GREAT memories and I always LOVED the monorail train, especially riding in the front "bubble".

    Who else remembers when one can park extremely close to the main gate if they got to the park early enough? People have joked that your first ride is the tram to the main gate. Dang. I'm getting old. HAHA

    Is this Jack Wagner doing narration? The voice sounds like him but a bit deeper.

    • @mickeylumbo8789
      @mickeylumbo8789 Год назад +1

      Jack was still "the voice of Disneyland" during this time, he was the narrator for the Disneyland monorail system. He was also (and still is) the voice behind the Main Street Railroad Station announcement, "your attention please..." 😊 The current narrator is the voice-over talent Matt Henson.
