I remember thinking something along the lines of "wtf?" back when Shaq Fu first came out. I look at it now and the same thing still comes to mind. I really just don't know. /smh
Me too they used to cheat for the computer when you were beating them in this games sometimes lol😂😂 i remember renting shaq fu for SNES from Kroger's in the 90s those were some good times
I watched most of the longplay of Superman 64 when I was sick and had nothing else to do besides lie down and watch RUclips. Much of the comments stated that the Real Hero was the person/player who managed to play through the entire game. You are also a hero for playing through this game. Thankfully this game is MUCH shorter than Superman 64, saving yourself from so much unnecessary pain
@@Muzart but I was there though. I'm almost 37 years old. Will be in late August. Played this game as a kid, and it was alright I guess for its time. But damn it really hasn't aged well. This just isn't a good game imo. But if you or others like this gamez than that's okay. Shoot, if anybody likes Superman 64 or Drake of the 99 Dragons, then that's fine too. But i would be perplexed about that
An interesting note on this game - because the memory used in Genesis carts was cheaper than Snes carts, the Sega version of this game crammed extra memory in the cart, and thus had additional characters and locations. The Snes version looked better though, thanks to it's increased color palette.
Seeing this game reminds me of a retro game store I used to go to. At the place, Shaq Fu was like a sort of joke there, and in one corner of the store, they had Shaq Plushes, a poster for Kazamn! And cartridges of Shaq Fu on Genesis and SNES spray-painted gold. I do remember asking the owner why it was all there, and he replied with a shrug. Haha the stuff you find in game stores sometimes.
Man I remember playing this when I was like 9 with my younger brother and we thought it was the best game ever, lol even now seeing how clunky it is I still cant hate it cause of the nostalgia of going to my grannys house and sitting on the floor beside my brother and playing this, killer instinct, and super mario world.
For years at a local game convention, I'd help the guy that ran it out by holding fighting game tournaments, since I owned most of them, like...ever made. One year I decided to change it up and have everyone play the worst game I could find. This was that game. I had almost triple the players for that tournament than the previous year's Street Fighter Alpha 3. The prize was a VHS copy of Super Mario Bros., 3 various Mad Catz controllers, and an Atari 2600 game with no label. Dead serious. The next year everyone had to play Rise of the Robots. With broken controllers.
Hmm, I think I worded that a bit strangely. It was a VHS copy of Super Mario Bros. the MOVIE, and three various Mad Catz controllers (which I didn't even know worked, actually). To be fair, a full play through of Mario 3 on a VHS tape would be pretty cool. The movie...not so cool.
I was fortunate to miss out on this one. I'm glad you told the history of it in your description, because I remember it that way too. However, I remember it being loathed by many when it came out. Isn't a sequel still coming out or is that cancelled?
Saber Interactive is creating a spiritual successor to this , and it's coming out this June. This time is a beat'em up called "Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn."
Game plays bad but is actually pretty beautiful til this day. Good character design, over the top animations, excelent pixel art. Plays bad, but looks great
god I'm glad I grew up in the 90's back than you rarely had a bad game come out SNES and the other systems back than....they just had something to prove and they did their hardest to prove it
You know what's funny? The sprite work isn't actually bad, it was the super stiff control latency that killed it more than anything to me. I didn't hate this game, but if the game had modern controls were completely responsive, it would've been received better.
Genesis version has 5 extra playable characters and more stage backgrounds. Graphics are more or less comparable. Gameplay is basically the same (shit), but faster, and the music and sound effects on the Genesis are absolutely awful. Especially when compared to the brilliant SNES soundtrack.
Shaq Fu is all Lakers Bruce Lee. When one player does it, there's always a side bet just like a pick-up game of HORSE. Shaq inspired a Generation of Talent Scouts, Wu-Tang Clan, Ghost Dog, and Keanu. When Wildnout called him out, it wasn't his funeral or Gina's Either, and Shaq still got Kobe's kids like Gina got Kobe when he was A-minor playing piano back East, if it was for Geena, Martin would have been a Priest!
Shaq could have played any sport he wanted, but Grandma dressed him up like a Genie, when poor Gma died he cried and cried til all his friends, dressed up like women and make Big Dummy Grin. Yet inside he was hollow, all he did was follow, yet where could he lead, when every church pastor said, here boy, come here and breed! Every School Board in America wanted a piece, yet instead of tickling his balls, they gave him the grease... Yada,Yada,yada...
After "Bubsy" coming back after a long hiatus in (from what I've gathered...)a somewhat decent and enjoyable sequel/re-boot, I think we can be confident that the newer "Shaq-Fu" title coming out this June(as of this writing...) in the form of a "Beat 'em up/Brawler" style will probably have much more care and attention to quality assurance this time around, right??
Idc what people say about this game, i played it back when it 1st came out...and id play it again, and again....sure i know the games pretty bad, but its amazing lol PS: random i know but i dont think ive ever seen memphis in fury ever, even as a cpu were they get 2x fury, as a player its impossible, and beast is the complete opposite, hit him just twice and hes in fury lol, 1 or 2 more even as a player
lol i had fun with this game on snes, remember that it wasnt the best game i had but back in the days u played the game no matter how bad it was. Also i had no clue who shaq was, he wasnt that big in sweden. Dont know if the game would better or worse knowing this 😂
Yeah, this was a total mess of a game. The controls are clunky and impossible to perform the special moves, the characters move *very* slow and take forever to throw a punch or kick. Even I had the misfortune of playing this game and thought it was good when i was a kid, one of my many mistakes. I just can't believe that they're making yet another game with Shaquile O'Neal. I know it's more like Final Fight, but it's going to stink worse than this one, so in time we'll look back to this game with nostalgia because this will be the lesser of the 2 evils.
Im not gonna lie i loved this game but i played it back in Dominican Republic when i was like 5 im 22 now and finally found out the title of the game so im kinda just hyped that i found this game again😂 i only had like 3 games back then so i played the fuck out of this one😂😭
I actually enjoyed this game as a kid (played it on Sega though) .. I even play it now sometimes on my emulator when I feel nostalgic. The 90's man!
My first sega game! Kick ass!
Was just telling my wife the same thing

You know, media creators loved basketball in the 90's WAY too much.
This brings me memories since my teen years when I was playing Shaq-Fu on SNES and Sega Genesis game systems and I enjoyed every minute of them!

Ah that would make sense. I didn't realize they were in different cart sizes. I guess it's like the differences between SSF2 versions, then.
what a classic, as always with the old skool games amazing tunes and some great fighting from the characters.
They're doing a sequel.
Enough said.

Hello! Has anyone else noticed the music during the opening cutscene is just a SNES version of Nezu's theme from the Genesis version?
Shaq fu is the best game i have ever played on both snes and Sega Genesis!!
The game was released on this day. October 28 1994 for snes and Sega Genesis
So Shaq Fu is the Only game you have played for both of these consoles

Extremewrecker2000 The willer. The movie was awful, but it was pretty funny that the king looked like a prolapsed uterus covered in pumpkin
