聖地・花園へ。全国高校ラグビー大会高知県予選の決勝戦が13日春野球技場で行われます。夢の舞台をかけて戦うのは高知中央と土佐塾。選手たちの意気込みを取材しました。
今月6日に開幕した全国高校ラグビー大会高知県予選。今年は、高知中央・高知工業・土佐塾の3校が出場しました。1回戦は土佐塾と高知工業が対戦。3年ぶりに県予選に出場した高知工業を土佐塾が大差で下し、決勝戦に駒を進めました。
勢いそのままに4年ぶりの花園を目指す土佐塾。パスとスピードが伝統のチームですが、今年はパワーもつけてきました。1年間で体重が10キロ以上増えた選手もいるといいます。さらに自分たちよりも大きい相手を止めるために、複数人でタックルを行う練習にも力を注いできました。相手の動きを止め攻撃に転じる、その中心となるのは2年生の清水優虎（しみず・ゆうと）選手です。

「1人だと勝てないんですけど、束になって誰も1人にさせない。アタックもディフェンスも。3年生を花園に連れていきたい、花園に一緒に行きたい」
ナンバー8を背負うのはキャプテンの吉川千貴（よしかわ・かずき）選手です。先の高知工業戦でもパワー、スピード、テクニックと三拍子揃ったプレーでチームを勝利に導きました。花園の舞台は未経験。3年生の吉川選手にとっては13日の決勝戦がラストチャンスです。

「おととし去年と行けてない。今年は必ず花園に行って、後輩たちに良い刺激を残したい。中央高校が驚くようなプレーを」
対する高知中央は4年連続の花園を目指しています。全国から集まったラガーマンに加え、トンガからの留学生も4人います。選手たちは今年、例年よりも多くの練習試合を経験し、仕上がりも順調だといいますが、一方でアクシデントも・・・渡邉大（わたなべ・だい）キャプテンが9月末の練習試合で右足を骨折。県予選への出場は断念せざるを得なくなりました。

「負けたら僕の高校ラグビーは終わりなんですが、チームメイトが勝ってくれて自分が花園でプレーできると僕は信じています」
キャプテンの思いを胸にチームを引っ張るのは、副キャプテンの森勝利亜（もり・しゅりあ）選手です。高知中央がテーマにしているのは「的確な状況判断」。相手の出方に対して、個々のプレイヤーが常に2つ以上のプランを持つことを目標にしています。
