I started coding because it just seemed magical and smart. Still loving it after years, I would rather spend the majority of my career in coding and practicing technical stuff than dealing with random business logics, useless competitions, and political aspects within the company.
I'm feeling exactly the same in my corporate job at the moment. Getting tired of the agreements, negotiations etc. That's why I picked up coding some time ago and am going through CS50 right now.

I view coding as a trade, like being an electrician, plumber, carpenter, or other craftsman. It’s a skill that you can use to actually make things, and it’s portable. Even if your eventual career is unrelated, it makes you a much more resilient person to have a trade to fall back on.

But it evolves so rapidly, making it so easy to fall behind and hard get/keep coding jobs unless you maintain a passion for it nonstop.
@@jakejake7289 Wow, I can't believe you're trying to learn new APIs after 40 years. I gave up that grind after 12 years or so. Probably because I had the benefit of learning an API that was 5m lines of legacy code that had been refined for 20 years and I started to see the pattern that it all eventually devolves into spaghetti code out of necessity.
Read the story of the tower of babel. Ancient societies have already been where we are and have surpassed where we are now.
Unfortunately, it is true that most influencers are way more successful than engineers, but I still think coding is an important skill to have, regardless of its financial effect.
But you are forgetting these people would not have a platform to even be influencers if it weren’t for engineers… I think the guy who worked on RUclips is more successful than the RUclipsr who makes a living by doing prank videos… regardless of the financial aspect… I’d rather have smart money than stupid money…not all money is the same.
Yeah also lol - for every 100 people making decent influencer content maybe 1 makes decent money. For every 100 decent coders 85 make good money

Interesting perspective. I agree that you basically have producers VS consumers. It's better to create than consume (you can't really make $ just being a consumer). I come from a marketing/social/advertising background and just started learning to code so I can make some of my own apps etc and bring things to life. I know No-Code is an option as well but I think learning to code has it's own freedom VS needing to use some of these no-code platforms. Thanks for the vid!
The IT field is massively oversaturated with all sorts of coders, developers, and engineers. This is why the companies can be so picky when selecting people for those coding positions; they have at their disposal an endless pool of applicants.

Great content man. Spot on. Coding is still a good skill, but like you said in your previous video, you need to marry your coding skill with a good business concept or partner up with someone with the business skills to bring revelency to your codes. Coding by yourself in the basement is not the way to do it.
The problem is there is too much coding competition, especially if you're new to it , so the only work could be limited to freelance. Plus AI will do it all soon .
Interesting video. Maybe one way to view any future divide in people would be "people with good information vs people without good information" if niche specific informational content curation remains to be the meta

That curating content / machine learning really hit me. I used to kind of be annoyed at people who curate or promote other peoples content… but when you think of them as basically living versions of machine AI recommendation engines it really makes me rethink the value of it!

and it always was more about the parasocial aspect of it than it was about the content reviewed, i.e. making the viewer believe he is part of the cool kids club and somehow friends with the person he sees on screen

Very wise words. Back in my day there were computer demo groups that together evolved the world. The things invented back then made the future we are in now. The coder is so important but so is the musician, the graphic artist, the courier. Theese things go together to create someting really special.

While it’s true that the top influencers are making more money than engineers now, I feel like it’s an unfair comparison. Obviously if I could make a living off of playing video games on twitch I would do that but I can’t because it’s not that simple. People go for engineering degrees cause the path is already set out in front of them and it’s a pretty straight line, not because they want to have “power” or make more money than the top 1% of influencers. You think there are a lot of people making money online until you see how many people are actually trying to.

Yes. I can see that curator is starting to become popular.
I disagree, if everyone wants to become an influencer, their supply will be too high compared to their instrinsic demand. Greater supply = greater profit dilution, greater homelessness from people trying to make it, and eventually greater people giving up on becoming influencers. Same logic with engineers. If the supply of engineers is too low, demand will rise and so too will incentives for raising said scarcity like greater salaries, benefits, social status, etc.

You can want to become an influencer just as how many people want to become football players, but how many of those actually put the work and consistency to archive success? And out of those, how many actually become elite at what they do?
As much as I dislike influencers, is not like its just a matter of putting content for a month or two to see enough money to make a living, it's long term commitment and at the end of the day, that's what keeps people away from success in whatever field they choose

The channeIs I watch on YT are often compilations of videos of other channels. So you do have a valid point about these curators. And their value rises and falls with their selection (and maybe their "show hosting").

VR is growing, I think the next big leap will be onboard Deep Learning Super Sampling allowing upscaling on the headsets which will mean much higher resolutions for wireless gaming. Deep Learning is continuing to grow at an incredible rate, you don't necessarily need people to come up with new network designs as there is so much already out there, getting clean datasets is still an issue though.
Your talking about a Subtopic of the main discussion. Individual technology’s don’t move society as a whole unless they are daily-life changing. Like the lightbulb, for example changing when we eat, when we work, etc. Communicating in VR versus plain text, video, etc, will be more optimal to get more info and work with it but not world changing. By focusing on all these individual things, your missing what he is talking about, and closing yourself off to be able to predict.

Really great video. I’m a former programmer… got sick, didn’t know why, finally got diagnosed with Lyme and PTLDS. I’m not recovered yet but I’m really trying to figure out how I can make a better life for myself. After being bedridden I feel that life is too short and I want to go places and do stuff…. That takes money and lots of it. If any of you have suggestions I’m all ears.
I pray Allah to have a quick recovery. Start with simple things like sitting over green watching oceans and montains etc. Those fancy stuff like partying etc. Is just a momental happiness and better to avoid so not to waste money or health.
🤣this uncle still give me laughs after that much years and incidents and i think he's a very funny guy who has good sense of humor and also brilliant at the same time, i feel he's like a tutor, teacher, senior, brother to me, sometimes in the past i really thought that "oh no, this man's gotten bad" but for now i think he's still doing well. I'm 18 and at the time when i need to navigate my life, this video gives me a lot of new ideas, new ways of thinking that tech is not everything there's still another way to "get rich"😂, thank you for making this video and hopefully you'll still doing well

Omg I was missing the true TechLead content I subscribed for years ago. I find it hard to find this type of content in the internet. You can say a lot of points he makes are oversimplifications/exaggerations/not the greatest metaphor, and it is easy for the fools to pinpoint and say he is wrong here and there. And he might be in some cases. But I get the overall message he is trying to convey. For me is like having a conversation in a bar with a very experienced engineer. Some venting, some trash talking, some laughs, but I leave feeling like I got a great insight I was not aware of before. Very different from the other videos you see everywhere " Hi I am , here are 3 filtered, curated and politically-correct tips for you to succeed in your career"

Yeah Mr. Tech Lead you are right (again). I think the human malware of the last years contributed to this "lay-back-lazyness-trend". I create DOOM Mods in my spare time and do the things you mentioned: Start a thread in a forum, upload a video a.s.o. Surprising fact for me was: I got the most response on the videos where I show off a litte gameplay of my mod. The mod itself (coding) is kinda irelevant - i think only a small fraction even download and play the game, the major part just likes to watch the videos. That kinda surprised me-so yes: coding is dead-lazy (passive) entertainment is in...
I like how you think even if it can be pessimistic sometime. About this video, I think the real questions to ask is why content creation is getting this popular knowing that entertainment is everywhere nowadays? Furthermore, is it sustainable for society to encourage and mass produce content creators compared to other more useful roles? I would personally say no. The only thing there is in that is quick money and negative medium to long term effects on society as a whole. But who cares right...

I work in Tech I'd have to kinda agree. It felt like over the last couple years we were in suspended animation, but it seems that was actually a bubble. Too many people got hired and the industry got too disconnected from reality. I think now is the hard landing.

The popular influencer lifestyle is obviously more lucrative than the typical engineer, but is it as sustainable? In my opinion it depends on the skillset, if it is a skilled actor, musician, artist then yes, of course; but if it is someone who makes video game content, or reaction content then I believe those influencers will come and go as the content they associate with ebbs and flows. Now some 'unskilled' influencers are successful because of their personality but those are the upper echelon of influencers that will maintain status through content shifts. Engineers will maintain a skillset and hopefully grow it and know in what direction to grow it from being a part of that ecosystem. Skill will always win in the long term and having sustainable skill as an influencer is more difficult than having a sustainable skill as an engineer.
Not true. When an Influencer rises there's no falling back, and there's actually no shortage of content ideas, and above all you're always inspired because of the fame you get. But as an engineer you'll just feel like a machine

I needed this, I was feeling so asphyxiated making a roadmap with one the main points for my life was to become a programmer, I want to have kids, I do, but thanks to you I realized that if I go down the path it will become difficult to be even around them. I realized with how bad things are getting it is going to be more difficult to land a job at a high paying company. I can still try but if I don’t make it I just to have to start somewhere with the knowledge I already gathered. This may sound stupid but I feel better now that there are more opportunities out there than working in a company in a 9-5

It's best to have your own path, your own niche. I would say you're on the right path for you.
find out what you love, if you haven't already. It's not the career that you are after, but passion. Passion takes you far, not the drive to make money.

It’ll be interesting seeing how the market bifurcates because of what you point out. The ordinary person has unlocked a fair marketplace where innovation can be rewarded. Now, even big companies are raising their minimum wages to compete.
