- The dragons are here. Hosts Greta Johnsen and Jason Concepcion discuss the first episode of House of the Dragon with #HOTD co-creator Ryan Condal: listen.hbo.com/GOT-podcast
It feels so good to get excited about GOT’s universe again. This first episode just healed the tremendous wound that the last 2 seasons of GOT left on my heart.
The last two seasons were not that bad three of the most watched episodes came from the last two seasons I’m just saying with retrospect bad Game of Thrones was better than most other shows by a large margin

@@ramzdalastpharoah lol no, that's some strong copium, I loved GOT and the Last seasons weren't bad, were AWFUL, thanks to the lazy writing of Dumb & Dumber
but it doesnt change the universe storyline tho....
Everyone... just enjoy. Not everything needs to be dissected right away. Take a a moment and enjoy that a great fiction that we've missed.. is back.

Yes it does
Fan theory is almost the worst. Many comments are kind of upsetting to trash a wonderful, best HBO, story ever has, will always be my first favorite.
I would have never thought that Visenya was as difficult to deal with as Daemon, but that's interesting to think about. She is one of my favorite Targaryens.
mind blown by the thought that Aemma is Visery's Rhaenys and Daemon, somewhat, his Visenya.
Listened Aegon ‘s reason to conquest coming from George is delightful.
I'm so happy with the first episode. I'm already in love with this show. It needs to be next Sunday already.
The King’s cupbearer is way more important than that. It indicates he wants her to learn about politics and has a good amount of faith in her right off the bat
Thank you for this podcast; it was very informative. I really appreciated co-creator, Ryan Condal’s insights and intel about his inspiration for the episode. I think the premiere was highly effective in establishing the premise of royal succession and illuminating the dynamics within relationships.
I realize that topics are somewhat limited in this podcast due to the time constraints; however, I would have liked further exploration of the parallels in this episode. Your explication of the tournament battles in juxtaposition with Aemma’s labor “battle” was brilliant. But did anyone notice the relationships between Rhaenyra/her dragon(Syrax); the handlers of Syrax/Syrax; Daemon/his dragon(Caraxes); Rhaenyra’s purpose for riding Syrax/Daenerys’
purpose (from Game of Thrones[GOT])for riding her dragons; Daemon’s dismount from his horse by someone of modest lineage/Daemon’s dismount from heir to the throne by an unlikely source (a female).
When Rhaenyra dismounted her dragon from the joyride, she was unscathed. However, the dragon handlers seemed frightful. Granted, dragons ARE scary; but the handlers’ trepidancy might serve to foreshadow what is to come. Will Rhaenyra take the throne and instill fear among those that surround her? Will Rhaenyra’s advisors or “ handlers” be unable to “tame” her once she becomes ruler?
And what about Daemon’s plight? It seemed as if he had a difficult time calming his dragon ( in the scene where his lover [Myseria] meets him at the dragon pit; Caraxes seemed irritable. Then again, I don’t know if Caraxes is a male or female. Daemon wanted Myseria to feel Caraxes. Is the dragon pregnant? Do we then presume that Caraxes is a female dragon? I digress. The underlying theme of these parallels, in my humble opinion, is control: Who has control? Who lacks control? Who really WANTS control?
I'm loving these podcasts with the creators. Keep it up
I wish Jason, who is supposed to be the "expert" of the two, knew what he is talking about.
28:00 Aegon's younger wife was Rhaenys, not Rhaenya, and she certainly did not die under "unknown circumstances": her dragon Meraxes took a scorpion bolt to the eye and plunged to their death in Dorne. It's even depicted with illustrations in A World of Ice & Fire...
For me who is a méga fan of the original show this was a amazing first épisode!
This is fucking mind-blowing ruclips.net/video/1HQDfGu1-tA/видео.html
I got what I expected especially with Miguel Sapochnik on board and Ryan condal
LOVED the podcast. Please keep them coming because you did such a great job! One suggestion on how to pronounce Aenys in reference to how Aegon and Aemma are pronounced ... maybe the Ae together are said like the E in egg. so Eggon, Emma and Ennys.
I like the theory about the mock-up from Viserys room and the map we see in GoT intro (26:04)
Exceptional opening episode. The casting of Matt Smith was masterful! I already want to slap his face
I love that they're doing these episode recap podcasts 😭😭😭💛
To be fair, George dropped the “rumor that Aegon knew about the wights” was dropped by GRRM publicly when he did press when he dropped Fire & Blood.
When the king spoke to his daughter about being prepared when the long dark cold night comes from beyond the north it made me think Jon Snow a.k.a. the Targaryen no one knew about but it was seen In a dream just like the doom of old Valerya

A series leading up to the doom of Valyria would have been nice but this was still a very strong episode 🐉

Read about The War of the Five Pitches
sucks that the show with naomi watts got cancelled
A Doom of Valyria show may happen down the line, but I wouldn't expect any announcement before 2025.
@@Vhagaryen Do you think running multiple GOT shows at the same time would water down the brand?
Ryan seems to understand George gives me really high hopes for this show
It’s nice to hear Jason’s voice again, it’s been awhile
DAMN IT GOOD TO BE BACK IN WESTEROS !!
Super psyched for this show!!!
imagine thinking people want 40 minutes of jason before the interview
I think the the structure Viserys is building is a replica of Valyria
I clicked and recognized Jason's voice immediately. Very happy HBO grabbed him for this
OMG! It just hit me that queen Aemma is Sherlock's sister...😱
I will be listening to this podcast I really think you guys are doing a great job
I love the epic background music...
Thank you Ryan Condal 🔥❤️🔥🐉

Then S5 to S8 enterily
Great first episode of HotD, very hopeful for the series! Is HBO trying to fill the seat of a casual viewer on this podcast? I'm weirded out about having someone who doesn't really know the source material be one of the hosts of HBO's OFFICIAL podcast.. At least Jason's knowledge is more vast and can fill in the gaps. Maybe forgot Rhaenys got shot down, but otherwise he's been good!

AEGON'S CONQUEST!!!
I NEED IT.
Please, do the tv series. House Of The Dragon: Aegon's Conquest.
Am I the only one that feels Otto orchestrated Aemmas birthing difficulty (playing the long game),because he and Deamon don’t get along and upon the King’s death would surely be sent away.
GOT!!!
Westeros TMZ doesn't make an appearance for another hundred and something years...it's called Lord Varys and his little birds
She could be mad at Daemon for cheating against her brother during the joust when he attacked the horse with the lance making him fly off the horse scratching his face up, though on the flip-side he is the Prince so maybe she had to accept. Though it also seems like no one cared that Daemon and possibly Ser Criston cheated and that Alicent and Otto don't seem to care about their brother/son Gwayne Hightower. Otto should have said something during the council.
Thought it was a great first episode!!!

Dragons smell like sulfur of course.
I think dragon smell is a mix of sulfur Methan and ammonia
How about a Doom of Valyria for the next series?
Rhaenerya acts like she has a childhood though, she and Alicent seem happy. Westerling would report to the king that Daemon is back though and somehow Rhaenerya knew Daemon was there
Everything in this episode was perfect except graphics of the dragons
What's time episode was showed
It was on at 9 pm EUTC (Toronto, ON, Canada)
4:25 the captions say Queen Emma... her name is Queen Aemma, with an Ae not E
My man does not have the voice for this medium of content

WHY IS THERE NO VIDEO THIS IS NOT WATCHABLE
I thought her being able to be in the council room so she has the information.

No Intro like Game of Thrones in Germany :((
It’s coming in the second episode
Is this a "can't question HBO or talk about season 8 podcast"? Not a snarky remark if it comes across as that, just genuinly curious.
Only asking since it seems so official
It’s the official HBO podcast. Odd they call it the official Game of Thrones podcast
Aegon's sister-wife is Rhaenys and her dragon is Meleys not Rhaenerya, not Rhaena, and not Rhaenya. It is Rhaenys
in b4 someone complains about season 8...
For some reason it never aired on HBO max on my fire stick. No idea what happened

So the information of the “dream” that was had by the former king, about the long winter and the the war to come, wasn’t passed on?
OF COURSE IT WAS THROUGH THE 2 different avenues and a prophecy
@@ramzdalastpharoah maybe passed on up until the mad king, Daneirys knew nothing about it. We don’t know if her brother knew.
I think the maesters will have something to do with obscuring the prophecy as well as dragon lore. Rhaegar seemed to have done a lot of digging through old forgotten tomes to find out about the prophecy

I’m still bitter with HBO. But this first episode was a new car and a Dimond neckless for sure.
We can’t full blame HBO to be fair. They got us an extra season, how would they know D&D were gonna nuclear dumpster fire the series.
Why the hell couldn't they put a camera in the room and give us video. I hate purely audio podcasts and didn't realize they still existed.
Most podcasts are just a group of people in a room talking, not exactly riveting stuff to watch

Just to be clear, the cup-bearer’s prime responsibility is NOT to make sure everyone is not thirsty-it is to make sure everyone (in royalty) is not POISONED. It is a highly trusted position, of extreme privilege… I am not sure the show quite got this right.
This trope that she is just a barista and this is sexist has to stop. Cupbearer had a huge responsibility and was perhaps the most trusted person to the king or royals. Obviously the show runners don’t get this, as she is just able to come in late and grab some wine that she knows nothing about (from somewhere) that who knows what has been done to (because she was just off riding dragons) and hand it to everybody in cups without even tasting it first.
If people don’t believe this was needed, maybe they have not heard what happened to *spoilers*
Some of it I liked and some I did not at all. I do love GOT. I know I'm in the minority but I loved the characters in a way I know I won't love these characters.

Robert was not incompetent, he just didn't care and left the ruling to other people. Actually, out of all the GoT kings, hes probably the best out of em all.
Obviously, the worst king is the Aegon who legitimizes all his bastards
AIV did that on his death bed, unable to stop Targeryan insanity from another hostile takeover. The Mad King, Aerys II had pots of wildfire placed under every street in Kings Landing, plus, his horrific acts of slow torture and murder exceeded even Master's mayhem...

Meh this podcast kind of blah...
I'm still reserved on the first episode. I didn't think the camera work was that good - not enough close ups. I thought the CG was a bit off. I think they should've had ONE recognizable actor, like they did with Sean Bean in GOT. Story line is good so far though.
Matt Smith is pretty recognizable.
See the exit door?
stop whining
Matt Smith
As a mega fan of GOT, this was a very disappointing first episode, especially when it came to the opening credits !
As a mega fan of GoT I couldn't disagree more. Every single episode was amazing to me. Kinda like it a little more than GoT in some ways. Some.
It's very 'meh'.
Yep, that's why it was such a massive success...soooo meh. 🙄 gtfo HotD is incredible so far.
#GetWokeGoBroke
Get Woke, Go Broke.
What are you upset about?
What was so “woke” about it
Probably the black Targaryens...seems every show has to throw some Woke into it these days.
@@pjroberts67 What do you mean by woke then?
@@pjroberts67 Why do people not get they are NOT TARGARYENS? They are Velaryons.
Terrible CGI. Those dragons looked horrible. Unnatural movements. Didn’t blend well with the environment. The dust kicked up looked atrociously fake. Everything else about the episode was phenomenal. But I think if they don’t improve, and fast with these dragons, it’ll be the unraveling. This show is literally about the family of the dragons. The dragons are kind of a big deal. Make them look right, or don’t bother making them at all…
I agree that the CGI wasn't great but the pull of the show is still the politics and the characters. I'm willing to forgive some wonky special effects.
@@lemuelcubase I’m not willing to forgive crappy CGI on dragons, when this is a show literally centered around the family of dragons. They are ESSENTIAL to this show. It may be forgiveable if they weren’t a focus of the show. But they are.
This is fucking mind-blowing ruclips.net/video/1HQDfGu1-tA/видео.html
Didn't really see a problem with it at all, I thought the opening dragon scene looked great. Honestly it's probably just the color/vibrancy of the dragons that's throwing you off. That's why they muted the colors on GoT and there were times when they still had problems there too
Is this D and D writing this? 🤣 Show is AMAZING, I don't give a shit what the dragons look like. It's the characters and storyline I'm interested in. The dragons are just icing on the cake.
