  • Gigabyte recently launched their new Aero 15 X9 and Y9 laptops with Nvidia’s latest RTX graphics, but how do these compare against the older 2018 models? Let's find out in this detailed comparison!
    In this video I’m going to compare the Aero 15X with 1070 Max-Q graphics with the newer Aero 15 X9 with 2070 Max-Q graphics, we’ll look at differences in gaming performance, thermals, battery life, laptop design and more to help you decide which to buy.

    At the start of the video at 0:10 I say 2070 Max-Q twice, the 15X has a 1070 Max-Q.
    I just want to stress again that these results should not be used as proper 1070 max-q vs 2070 max-q numbers due to the differences in CPU performance noted in the video, I'll cover this in a future video once I have more 2070 max-q data.

    But wasn't this difference in temps because of you repasted thermal interface on your 15x few months earlier?

      The 1070 is just slightly better than the 2060, so the 2070 should be a nice improvement, but in most laptops will only really be noticeable if you're actually playing at higher setting levels or resolutions.

      Not with this data, as I talk about in the video I don't want to use these 2070 Max-Q numbers for anything else due to my CPU throttling, I'll wait until I have other 2070 Max-Q laptops to do that. I keep saying everywhere I see a max-q GPU, avoid, buy the lower tier GPU you will get nearly the same performance for much less. Just like the 1080 before the r2080 max-q is closer to a regular 2070.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 лет назад +1

      Maybe, depends if you need more power. In the case of these thinner laptops it seems to either be 2060 or 2070 Max-Q, some people want all the power the can get so Max-Q is the only option for improvement.

    • @Lewis360
      @Lewis360 6 лет назад

      @@JarrodsTech To be honest I haven't checked the 2060 vs 2070 max-q results yet, but in the case of the 2080 max-q vs the 2070 nVidia is misleading customers, the 2080 max-q is way slower than a regular 2080 and closer to the 2070 for way more money, I think as reviewers you should point out this misleading practice.

    • @thebadburrito1394
      @thebadburrito1394 5 лет назад

      Amir Bright is it misleading though? Max-Q is meant to have a lower TDP so it runs in lower laptops. The 2070 MQ, example, OCs really well if the cooler is good (I.e, the Lenovo Y740.) it gets nearly 15% from just that.
      Now, the misleading thing is how only the very upper end gets 90W vBios, like Razer’s laptops...despite the gpu chip being the same as the 80W right down to power delivery.

Plus I have 5% back on amazon and Amorada doesn't charge tax in California, even on amazon, so I snagged it for $2280. Remember Jarrod already pointed out that the increased thermals for his x9 seem, on the face of it, to be due to an issue with the CPU for his particular model.
      Other things to consider are that the performance measured now is with the 1070MQ using drivers that have been optimized over 3 years+ vs the 2070MQ which is much newer and may still have performance to be eeked out, not even taking account of further improvements with DLSS etc.
      At the end of the day, you're getting, in the worse case scenario, small improvements in all games and in the best case, significant improvements inline with what was seen in The Witcher 3 benchmark, where things were clearly more GPU bound.
      Just enjoy your purchase and don't worry about the differences between v9 vs v8 (beyond benchmarking during the return period to make sure there's nothing horribly wrong with your particular model)

      Awesome, can't wait to get one for testing from ASUS, I think they're getting the new models this week or next week for review.

  • @ChannelTrooper

    I wonder why all reviewer always "Boost" the new model by saying such as "repasting" undervolting the new model, yeah well you can do the same to the old model too... which will further close the gap. 2070Max-Q IMO is a waste of money

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  5 лет назад

      I didn't suggest this in the video (only said not sure if there was a paste difference between the two) so can only assume this is a general comment rather than anything specifically directed towards me. For what it's worth I have an entire video repasting my 15x with 1070 max-q, it did nothing.

    You must retest these numbers with both CPUs capped at a lower frequency for GPU numbers because your x9 CPU is is obviously skewing data. The numbers you currently have for GPU is inconclusive.

      I agree, hence the pinned comment on the video, and that I explain this multiple times within the video. The purpose of this video is an Aero 15x vs X9 comparison, NOT a 2070 max-q vs 1070 max-q comparison.

    I would rather go for 1070 as ray tracing will take years to become mainstream, if ever. I still remember the tessellation buzz from years ago.

      Yeah first gen RTX isn't great so far 🤔 or at least that games that make use of it have a way to go.

    Does it worth to upgrade from 1070 max q to 2070 max q?

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 лет назад

      No I don't think so, as you have to buy an entirely new laptop, almost never worth doing that just to upgrade one generation, a 4-5 year upgrade timeline is more realistic for most people.

      I have the Scar 2 with the RTX 2070 and it's a lot faster than these are. It has the full gpu, not the Max-Q. One thing to keep in mind is that the RTX 2070 is held back more by single channel ram than the 1070 is. You'll want to spend another $100 on ram to run in dual channel. With a healthy undervolt, my Scar 2 is faster than my GTX 1080 desktop setup.
