Tery - Thank you for this video, I had thought I bricked my radio and tried everything the net suggested and no luck. I then followed your instruction and guess what? Success! My radio came back from the dead. Thanks buddy. - Craig
First of all Tery, I want to say Thanks for putting out this video. My 436HP which gave me faithful service for several years decided yesterday to "crap the bed" and the sentinel page would not recognize my SD card nor load anything into the scanner. I took a look on the forums at Radio Reference and read that the SD cards will wear out over time and if the scanner starts acting funny that it may be time to replace it. I didn't know this!!I picked up a new one at WalMart and upgraded from 4GB to 16GB and went home with a question mark in my head...."I don't know how to do this" and got on RUclips to find a video that would show me how to do it, step by step. Typing 436HP card into the search line turned up your video so I followed along and VOILA, it worked like a charm. My scanner is at my side while I type this and it's singing like a Robin in the springtime.Keep making these videos because there are a lot of people out there that need someone like you to inform us and we can follow your instructions and get excellent results. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us. Best wishes, and Thanks again.
Russell Maher Thanks for taking the time to make such a great comment. When I get into a scanner I try to figure it out so that if it needs fixing I can give the fastest cure. They are complicated enough. Best to you.
You're correct when you say that scanners today are very complicated, and very different than the days of crystal controlled units with 6 channels and analog only. By the way, I want to add that the time display that hasn't worked for two years is up and running in the upper right corner of the scanner. Could the new SD card be the reason for it working now? Anyway, Thanks again.
I had a corrupt SD card in my 536 and needed to clone it from my 436. It's good that I did this video as it's been a long time and I kind of forgot how to do it.
This didn't seem to work on my BCD436HP. All went fine until the scanner reboot. Still said SD card file error. Before removing the old SD card I opened it in Windows file explorer and copied all the files/folders. I copied these back to the new card and it worked fine. I'm running Sentinel v1.06.
Great video. Thanks, can I ask a question about cards? I have a 536 and it works great. I just bought another 536 but it has no card installed. I will buy a card but can I still use sentinel to get the info onto the new card in the new scanner ? Thanks. Gary
Wow, your video rocked.... I followed your video to a “T” and using a new card by copying from another radios card worked perfect. I saved it and it worked! Thanks for the great videos and tutorials for us newbies.
Great info! stuck a new 32GB HikVison SD card that has a 7 year warranty. More room for recordings and it is noticeably faster! Just got this scanner. So easy to program with Sentinel software.
I have a Uniden BCD436HP, and was programmed when I first purchased, but then I monkeyed around with it and screwed things up. Is there a way to completely wipe out the scanner and start fresh just like it was new out of the box? Also, is there such a thing as plugging it into my PC and use a program online to reprogram it? Also, I have the scanner charging through my PC right now. Do I have to have batteries in it in order for it to charge? Thanks, Susan
When is the proper time to take the cable out from the scanner after this process (or updating the scanner any other time connected to the pc). is there a proper procedure for this??????????? great video, thanks
from an earlier reply I mentioned the size of the SD card doesn't make as much difference is the speed of the SD card. I put in a 16 gig and that's as much memory as the scanner will store before it makes you were clear some of the files. I save the most interesting files to my computer and then clear everything out and start over on recording.
Hello,I just received my 436hp in the mail the other day and I was doing a update of the data base to my radio and I clicked on something I have no idea what it was my screen switched so quick I didn't see what it was but whatever happen I think my SD card got ruined, can I just go but a new SD card and if I do can I just put it in my radio and have it work or do I have to do a programming process in order for the new SD card to work.
you need to follow the steps shown in this video. If you didn't backup your SD card I would contact the company and ask them for a file to restore the factory defaults.
I am getting ready to buy a micro SD card now. Can you tell me what you used as a faster card than what came in the scanner? I didn't go into flipping the clip to actually look at the current card to see exactly what it is. Assuming that Uniden uses the same card all of the time, maybe you can tell me what card it is that I have right now. And then, what you recommend?
I'll get back to you when I get home. I know it was more important to get a fast chip than a real large chip. you can get a 32gig fast chip for real cheap now.
on my scanner I found that it would only store so many files of information before it was would stop recording. I believe because of this, an extra big chip wouldn't make any difference but a fast chip does make a difference. I need to update my firmware and see if that makes any difference.
32gb is the Max size the BCD436hp will take,u want atleast a Class 10 chip that is either a 16gb-32gb the GB is only the amount it will hold the class is the operation speed class 4 being not bad class 10 being Fast,
Hello Tery....Can you tell me the name and anything else about the chip. Want to make sure I get the correct item.Thank you for any help you can give me. Have a great day....bobm
I would get the fastest 16 gig chip you can because the speed of the chip is how fast it will read and let you erase the files on the card. ask the people in the store to recommend one of the better chips. Also realize that they get paid on selling something that has a bigger profit margin so that's a hard question to answer as to which chip to actually buy. choose a well known brand.
did you finally get you new chip working? the problem you mention never happened on any of the chips that I put in my scanner. the one you talked about could have been a faulty chip because it always shows up as an unknown drive when i did it the way I show in this video. good luck sir.
This is great. But for us Mac users the software doesn't seem to like running on a virtual machine consistently . I am running Windows 7 professional on my Macbook air. And have had very limited success in getting the software to the SD card.

Great video. This was one of my concerns. How to update the SD card to a larger one. You explain it step by step. Thanks for making this video!
Thank you Tery. I especially liked the step by step format that you used. I will be upgrading my chip very soon and will refer to your video!
Thanks! I hope your upgrade goes easily because of this video.
How do you get off of the SD Card File Error screen to get to USB Mass Storage screen?
Great video, just upgraded my SD card using your steps, thanks !
Thanks so much dude, really helped me out.

Hey Tery...I think that I am good after reading the comments below...thanks! Great video!

gary wheeler I think you can copy the card into Sentinel and restore it back to another card which you will install into your other 536. Let me know.
Tery Thompson Ok will try that. Was worried that the ESN number would mess things up. I just got a Sandisk card (16) and will try it now
Wow, your video rocked.... I followed your video to a “T” and using a new card by copying from another radios card worked perfect. I saved it and it worked! Thanks for the great videos and tutorials for us newbies.
Can i use my home patrol 1 sd card files with a 436?
Thank you so much. I was getting a SD card error and I did replace the card from 8GB to 32GB it works.
Where can I find one of those cable adapters?
Great info! stuck a new 32GB HikVison SD card that has a 7 year warranty. More room for recordings and it is noticeably faster!

Hi. New bcd436 owner, nice video, thanks. Did you ever do your 'why it's good to have a bigger, faster chip in the 436' video?
Is it the same to do this with the HP-2? Physical removal as well as the reformat / computer work needed to make this successful?
Do you know what the maximum size SD card you can use
from an earlier reply I mentioned the size of the SD card doesn't make as much difference is the speed of the SD card. I put in a 16 gig and that's as much memory as the scanner will store before it makes you were clear some of the files.

Can it run without the battery and using only the USB port .
I never tried it that way but you can. My guess is that it will work without the batteries. Let me know.
Yes, you can. The replay option doesn't work without batteries.

The factory is a class 4 card. A class 10 will work just fine.
Would upgrading to a 32 GB 90 MB SanDisk be even better than a 32 GB 48 MB? What differences will I notice if any?
on my scanner I found that it would only store so many files of information before it was would stop recording. I believe because of this, an extra big chip wouldn't make any difference but a fast chip does make a difference. I need to update my firmware and see if that makes any difference.

WAT DO U THINK ABOUT THE ARC SOFWARE FOR BCD436?
RONNIE1519
Clicking on "Display All Drives" did NOT cause the new blank card to appear. Why would this happen if it worked for you?
did you finally get you new chip working? the problem you mention never happened on any of the chips that I put in my scanner. the one you talked about could have been a faulty chip because it always shows up as an unknown drive when i did it the way I show in this video.

This is great. But for us Mac users the software doesn't seem to like running on a virtual machine consistently . I am running Windows 7 professional on my Macbook air. And have had very limited success in getting the software to the SD card.
I wish I knew more about Macs. It could be the new firmware might make a difference. Or maybe the new software as well. good luck to you.
Tery Thompson I am now running Windows natively on my desktop Mac! :)
why not just take the chip out insert it into the computer copy it to a bigger chip and put the bigger chip that's what I did
