I cannot thank you enough for this video!!! Bought my father a new scanner for Christmas and after reading the Sentinal manual online, I was still clueless. Watched your video and NAILED IT!!!! Thank you!
Thank you for the video! I am new to digital scanners... so watching you setup your favorites list was educational. I am still trying to understand quick keys, ID scanning vs. ID search. Are you still planning on making a video showing how you use this favorites list?
Thanks for this video Paul. It was the programming (being a hardcore user), that was going to prevent me from buying one of the new models. After seeing this, my concerns are at ease.
I’m trying to listen to my towns fire and police - Cottage Grove, Wisconsin. It shows it’s part of Simulcast. I add them into my favorites list, but when I scan them, I never get any hits. Do I have to add talk groups to the favorites list within the Cottage Grove favorites? And how do I add the talk group?
You do a great way of showing how to programming the 536 with Sentinel, you can read the book but is very confusing. I did some changes manually but a lot quicker with the program. My mind is still stuck in frequency and name only, with these new scanners you have to get away from that mindset ! Thanks !
Hello and thank you for providing this video. I am having an issue with my favorite list after following everything in your video and download it into the scanner. I see my favorites list in the scanner but my scanner is telling me there is nothing to scan. Please help. Thank You
I live in the Seattle metro area. I am eight miles west of downtown Seattle in Bainbridge island Washington. My county is vhf conventional. There are a few counties in the region I want to be able to monitor. And several vhf frequencies for the coast guard and such. Say I want to create lists for Seattle-including my county/city. And then go to the next county and so forth .Is it as easy as it appears to be from your video? I would also want to add military aviation to a list. Oh and I'm going to have to fire up my laptop to run this software as it's windows only right?
so i have quick key question so i want to put one police dept on 1 fir on 2 and so on how do i set it up to put the departments on the channels. thank you for you help if you can
Hi, I just got my BCD436HP and have been watching your RUclips Video on the Sentinel favorites list. So I want to listen to the Fort Worth Regional Radio System in part. So the Fort Worth System as I have named it is the System for quick key 0. so Ft. Worth P.D. would be a department? and Ft. Worth F.D. and Forest Hill F.D. etc. are all departments in the Ft.Worth System. What about channels in the Ft.Worth Police Department. i.e. South Patrol, or South CID. are these channels able to be assigned a quick key? Thanks Ray.
Mr Upman, Im having a little trouble making my fav list. Triyng to follow ur video but there are a few things that i cant get passed. Wondering if u could help me out. Thanks
It's strange, but I built up my favorite lists while waiting for my scanner to arrive, but it does not show the menu items where I can add the quick keys.
I made my favorites list, System, department and channel, made sure monitor and download are on, assigned quick keys and uploaded to scanner however it tells me there is nothing to scan, what have I done wrong, I'm ready to ship this thing back.
Is there a phone number to contact Uniden support i just purchased the bc536hp & i watched this video about 50 times & when i go to my country it's not showing fire & police in data system like this video showed for the dallas area.
I lost the instructions for my BCD536HP and now I can't shut off the Close Call function. I dont know it got turned on, but I don't want it on. Can someone help ?. Thanks.
First make sure that the profile is set to download the list to the scanner (pencil/paper icon, make sure download column is yes for the FL). Then upload to scanner.
Uniden Upman Does that have to be done with the radio plugged in to the computer? It appears those of use who are running Windows through VMware fusion, and other means, are running into issues with the USB cable used for programming and powering the radio. In other words, can I use a MicroSD card adapter for the MicroSD card?
So, let me get this straight. If I’m understanding correctly, that little SD card has the entire US and Canada database on it. Fine. Got that. What I can do, via the software, is that I can make a “favorites” list of ONLY the specific things I want to listen to, and the radio will scan just THOSE? For example, not just my own local area, but ONLY Fire, Police, EMS/Medical and whatever else I choose. I don’t have to worry about taxi cabs, buses, fast food drive-up windows and security companies, etc., am I correct? I can make my custom list and just scan THAT, yes?
yes, that is how i understand it. the favorite list is the list that you only want to scan and how you want to scan it. the database is already on the card as well if you need it.
BCDx36HP Sentinel. Version doesn't matter, much. No appearance or function changes relevant to this video (other than new model support) since release.
I have a BCD436HP and so far I love it. My only problem is that I have created 6 different favorite lists. I have Spartanburg Co. Sheriffs Office, Spartanburg Co. EMS, Spartanburg Co. Fire, South Carolina Highway Patrol Troop 3, Town PD, and Sptbg City Police and Fire. I've already written to scanner and the only ones that will scan and broadcast are the county fire channels. I don't understand why the other groups aren't scanning. I have already set all of them to scan and still there is no change. I'm at the end of my rope please someone help! Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
I would humbly suggest that for the sake of us newbies that you explain the process from the very first step to the last. Assuming that that is understood then maybe go back and explain all the other things that you can do e.g. changes to names, etc.
You do not have to set Quick keys. I have 50 favorite lists and do not use any Quick key or Favorite list keys or any keys. I just go to favorite list on scanner and toggle the keys i want on and off.
OMG is there NO explanation of how to do this that is not so LONG winded and just shows basic application? There is SO much crap we don't need to know and things that should be included but are not. Start from a clean slate, make a basic step by step instruction of how to create a FL the toggles O/F SYSTEM-DEPT-CHANNEL. How to make it. How to get it on your radio. How to use it. THAT'S IT!
RIP UPMan (Paul Opitz). We owe you so much for your videos and other help throughout the years.
I cannot thank you enough for this video!!! Bought my father a new scanner for Christmas and after reading the Sentinal manual online, I was still clueless. Watched your video and NAILED IT!!!! Thank you!
RIP Paul, you, your hard work, and dedication to the industry will never be forgotten.

Thanks for this video Paul. It was the programming (being a hardcore user), that was going to prevent me from buying one of the new models. After seeing this, my concerns are at ease.
Thank you so much for this. The manual has lots of info but sometimes it's just better to see a walkthrough.
Liked the video, looking forward to the next where you show how to operate the scanner using the quick keys.
Great Video. Got a lot of info out of it. Just purchased a SDS-100. Manual does not explain much.

Hi quick question? Where’s part 2 showing you running this favorite? Thanks
Good info thanks. This is a powerful tool, but I don't think I have any other tool I am less able to navigate on my own!
I create a favorites listed but after uploading to the #canner, it gives me a message that there is nothing to scan. Must be doing something wrong?

How do you add 2-meter simplex frequencies? I have a BCD536HP and cannot find any info on the subject. Do I create a Custom List, if so, how?
Love the new scanner. programing is overwhelming. I have unidens manul and this easy to read and .I am so confused
Hello and thank you for providing this video.
I am having an issue with my favorite list after following everything in your video and download it into the scanner. I see my favorites list in the scanner but my scanner is telling me there is nothing to scan. Please help.

Setting TGID, search?
How can I program frequencies manually? The sentinel software doesn't include some of the frequencies in my area.
Manual is at: info.uniden.com/twiki/pub/UnidenMan4/BCD536HP/436_536_OM_20140130.pdf.
Strange... when I select certain items, if I Right Click the Append is grayed out so I can't add them.
+UtwoBed I'm having the same problem, any luck?
I am having trouble getting my fav. list to load to scanner. I do not know what I am doing wrong!?
Y como se programa cuando se es de otro pais?, porque aqui solo explicas para EEUU.
so i have quick key question so i want to put one police dept on 1 fir on 2 and so on how do i set it up to put the departments on the channels. thank you for you help if you can
I recommend you ask questions like this in the forums at RadioReference.com.

My "append to favorites list" is grayed out. Is there something I have selected wrong?
Mr Upman, Im having a little trouble making my fav list. Triyng to follow ur video but there are a few things that i cant get passed. Wondering if u could help me out. Thanks
Can't locate the vid to upload fav to homepatrol II.? Anyone have a link?
It's strange, but I built up my favorite lists while waiting for my scanner to arrive, but it does not show the menu items where I can add the quick keys.
Was it a HomePatrol-1, HomePatrol-2, or BCDx36HP model? (The first two don't have quick keys.)
I need to get sentinel software on my computer please , where can i get it from for Uniden BCD436HP, thanks
Great video! Thank you. Did you post a part 2?
I made my favorites list, System, department and channel, made sure monitor and download are on, assigned quick keys and uploaded to scanner however it tells me there is nothing to scan, what have I done wrong, I'm ready to ship this thing back.
this is what I found. Where is says nothing to scan punch in your quick key numbers and say yes=E..
I did everything but it dont show in my scanner after i save it wtf
What's the video's name about what to do next ?
Is there a phone number to contact Uniden support i just purchased the bc536hp & i watched this video about 50 times & when i go to my country it's not showing fire & police in data system like this video showed for the dallas area.

Push the SQ,,,squelch button until it reads off on the screen,,,Good luck...
Once the favorites list is completed, what is the procedure for downloading it to the scanner?
First make sure that the profile is set to download the list to the scanner (pencil/paper icon, make sure download column is yes for the FL). Then upload to scanner.
That worked fine. Thank you.
Can somebody please list the various video entries in the order from beginning?
thanks,
David Harnish
If you go to ruclips.net/user/UnidenUpmanvideos?flow=grid&view=57, those are listed in order, from most recent at the top.
Very well done. Looking forward to more information.
Can you please make a video on programming CAP+ Plus, CON+ etc. I’m willing to pay. I’m running a SDS100
I am having issues with my laptop wanting to work with this software. Is there anyway to manually input data?
Firmware and Database updates can only be made with the software. You can manually program anything you want using the scanner's menu system.
Uniden Upman

Steve Giovanis Yes, you can just apply to the updates to the card using a card reader, then reinstall the card in the scanner.
Thanks again you definitely help me fix my problem
Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate how this works

lateral92 Works for ME!
Which version of Sentinel are you using? I am using the current version and it doesn't look like that.
BCDx36HP Sentinel. Version doesn't matter, much. No appearance or function changes relevant to this video (other than new model support) since release.
Actually I finally got it. The scanner had to be connected and if I deleted the favorites list I originally tried to make, it worked.
In 2019, I purchased a BCD436HP and it programs with my Zip Code. I might buy a SDS100.
Damn you're good!!
HI, BEARCAT sent me my favorites list VIA email how do I put that attachment in my favorites list in SENTINEL..
Thank you! This really helped my program my scanner

+Lee McMillion Hello Lee, I would contact Uniden support and I am sure they can help you address the issue.
The manual doesn't explain anything about storing frequencies manually.
Starting on page 35 and continuing to 46 tells you how to manually program channels into the scanner using the keypad.
I would humbly suggest that for the sake of us newbies that you explain the process from the very first step to the last. Assuming that that is understood then maybe go back and explain all the other things that you can do e.g. changes to names, etc.
Thank you for this video!!
This was a good tutorial thanks for this!
Great information but why didn't you just add every FD in Texas and make it an hour video?
I was going to post he same comment. Damn, after the first 400 choices we kind of figured that part of it out.
You do not have to set Quick keys. I have 50 favorite lists and do not use any Quick key or Favorite list keys or any keys. I just go to favorite list on scanner and toggle the keys i want on and off.
I made a favorites list and loaded to my scanner but I get message there is nothing to scan. Any idea on what I am doing wrong?
STILL WAITING

Very informative, but way to fast. I could not keep up.
