In 1992 I was privileged to see a Broadway production of A Streetcar Named Desire. The headline actors were Jessica Lange, Alec Baldwin, Amy Madigan. Making their Broadway debuts were James Gandolfini as well as Aida Turturro. It was a magnificent production. Little did I know then that years later their connection would continue in the Sopranos.
Edie's tribute was so heartfelt and sincere, you can feel her pain! It's been a year since he's been gone. Still shocking today as it was when I heard it. I'm just so thankful for dvd's and you tube because when you sit down to watch anything Jim was in, you forget he's gone even for just a moment. When the show ends however, that horrible sadness/void returns. RIP James Gandolfini, you were truly what real actors and men are made of!!!!
After hearing her speak on the last group cast interview I have to question how sincere she is.. she says they weren't really friends and it was just a professional association
I went a bit emotional after watching this. James was truly one of the greatest actors of all time playing in what is probably the best tv series ever made. Rest in peace pal.
Its such testament to his acting, that when I saw the Sopranos, I couldn't believe that he as an actor didn't have some kind of former mob connection. To play that role with such expertise, such a great actor.
It’s been almost 7 years since James passed, and I still miss him to this very day. I didn’t know him, but we all know he was a very special person and humble to the core! I always make it a point, to watch the Sopranos at least once a year.

He brought so much to his character Tony Soprano that to me, with be impossible to imagine anyone else ever doing that part, but him. How he & that whole cast didn’t win awards every single yr defies logic for they were all truly incredible on that series. My friends go on and on about "Game of Thrones" but that show is not even Half as good as the Sopranos....If I can get these knuckle heads to watch.....They'll see!!
Games of Thrones is my second favourite show. It's fantastic. As a relatively younger viewer, it's got me into other HBO shows, namely the Sopranos. Having watched the Sopranos, it is now without a doubt my favourite show of all time. Every episode is just so well crafted, every character is so well written and portrayed (however much I hate AJ he was still well do). As others have said it pioneered the modern TV drama, and allowed shows like GoT to be made. I don't think it will ever be topped, it's without a doubt the best gangster movie never made
I'm just watching the Sopranos for the first time, & it makes me SO sad that he didn't really get a chance to enjoy a longer life for what he gave us with such an unforgettable, multilayered character, R.I.P. James.

He lit up the screen as Tony Soprano and I would have been fortunate to have ever met Jim from what it sounds like.
We have the whole series on dvd and watch it once a year along with all three godfathers. People ask how can you watch it over and over. Well I always see something I did not see before in the way he and Al handled a scene. It like reading a book again when you are older. Your life brings a whole new meaning to the book. James thank you for acting. I will soon be eating at the same restaurant as you did before you died.
One of the two celebrity deaths that have affected me. I loved James’s work. There is no movie of his that I have not seen multiple times and it brings me a great sadness that I will no longer see him play a new role. Arguably, the person alongside David Chase who made TV as big as it is today! Rest in peace, Jim!
The sopranos is by far the greatest television show i have ever had the pleasure of watching. I actually just started re watching the entire series and am on season 2. James is sorely missed. Rest in peace.
Tony Soprano : The convergence of a character and the perfect actor to play him. Sometimes while watching The Sopranos I would be so immersed in this character.... I'd forget I was watching an actor. James broke thru some 4th dimension with his portrayal. It was beyond acting. He behaved like this guy, became this guy. Truly amazing to watch....
Hard to watch the show anymore. Still can’t believe he’s gone. I’m just glad I was able to watch him from the beginning back in 1999. Seems like yesterday. Jim, you will always be a legend. R.I.P
Up until last week I never watched a single episode of The Sopranos. Didn't even recall Gandolfini dying back in 2013. But last week I finally decided to binge watch it. All 6 seasons. What an amazing show, James, wow what an amazing actor. Breaking Bad is still my favorite show, but The Sopranos is a close second. Then when I looked up what James was doing now hoping maybe they might do a Sopranos movie, I saw that he had died. Dang, that was sad. Before The Sopranos I remember watching him for the first time in Crimson Tide and though it bombed in the box office, I remember watching him in The Last Castle. Havent been this depressed since the crocodile hunter died lol
I knew him in the early 90s - took him and a bunch of our friends horseback riding. Then we all hung out at my parents house. What nice guy - and great sport. So sorry he's gone. miss him.
There are three celebrity deaths that still cut me deep to this day; Chris Farley, Rowdy Roddy Piper, and James Gandolfini. Farley has been gone for a long time; it really hurts, but the world has accepted it. Piper’s death was only 5 years ago, but it was his time- he was sad all his friends had passed on and was ready to go. But Gandolfini cuts the deepest. To think a remarkably layered character like Tony Soprano wasn’t even a real person, just a facade put up by a real man, is other worldly. The world mourns Jimmy to this day. I wish he was still around to hear how much we all loved him.
Just finished watching the Sopranos for the first time today and am falling down the rabbit hole of Gandolfini vids on youtube. Moved to tears with this vid, Thank you James.
