    I think it's less "doing two things at once" and more "doing two things at the same time that are vastly different kinds of things." Using two control sticks is perfectly okay. Mixing normal and motion controls at the same time is very difficult at best.
    Edit: I should clarify I mean mixing those when each does similar things. Using motion controls and pressing buttons isn't inherently bad, but using motion controls for one thing and using traditional controls for a very, very similar thing at the same time is not good.

    • @Crazy_Gamer_OG
      @Crazy_Gamer_OG 3 года назад +5

      I think the worst part of Zero wasn't just the controls. It was the amalgam of bad controls combined with levels that were super boring & slowed down with less enemies & stuff to shoot. It's like Nintendo knew the controls were sh!t, but didn't want to admit it so they just made everything slower & took away 90% of the enemies. Then the drone segments, which just sucked the life out of me because they were so dull & uninspired, like they were just there to subject players to more terrible gamepad gimmicks.

      It *can* be done right, but yeah, it's tricky. The World Ends With You (the original version on DS, I haven't played any of the ports) had us using the face buttons to control the character on the top screen and touch controls to control the one on the touchscreen, but it was surprisingly manageable after a while - getting used to it took me a few hours, though.

    Fun fact:
    Zero was like that because of Miyamoto's baffling decisions not to include different options for a different control scheme, even though Iwata said soon after the E3 trailer dropped that it would have that, and Iwata passed very soon after that. (R.I.P to Iwata, one of the most passionate gaming developers and a genuinely amazing human being.)
    I love Miyamoto but damn it, he needs to step down and let younger talent take over IPs like StarFox and F-Zero with absolute creative freedom.

      Miyamoto hasn't directed a game since the gamecube and he has been allowing Koizumi to direct games for a while (Mario Oddysey) and, still, Miyamoto can still make good game decisions when he want, in example, the only reason Pikmin exist is because of him, still waiting for Pikmin 4.

      It's not that baffling when you take into consideration that SF0 was a last-ditch effort to sell people on the Wii U's GamePad, so being able to ignore the new "innovative" control scheme would've not served that purpose. Of course, we all know that the game pretty much achieved the polar opposite of that intention and was basically the final nail in the Wii U's coffin.

    • @SakuraAvalon
      @SakuraAvalon 3 года назад +5

      People tend to look back on the whole thing with Nintendo and kinda just see it as a company throwing its weight around, and forcing others to conform, and stop competition.
      While yes, it definitely had issues. It needs to be viewed with proper context. Coming into this market, gaming had just crashed in America.
      Anyone could publish a game for the Atari, there was no quality control. Garbage, broken games started to choke the market. Stores became inundated with garbage, to the point that they stopped carrying games. Even games made by Atari.
      The whole industry in America choked to death, and everyone started swearing off gaming, as a complete waste of money.
      When Nintendo entered the market, they had to struggle to get in. Redesigning the NES multiple times, just to try and convince people that the NES was a toy, and not a games console.
      Because saying it was a games console, was a death nail for the system.
      And once it got that kid centric market, they needed to make sure games didn't upset parents, while also making sure game developers didn't flood the market and kill the NES, like what happened to all of the gaming consoles prior.
      That's why they were so strict, so limiting, and forced companies to limit how many games they could make in a year.

    Usually a video about the “worst” Nintendo games will be highly contentious or controversial, but I’m pretty sure most peeps can agree that these games aren’t good. With Star Fox Zero, if you somehow are able to get a grip on the controls, you will very likely enjoy it. However, they are so incredibly obtuse in so many ways, that very few people are willing or able to do that.
      Being one of the few people who coukd, I found the gane really enjoyable and one of my favorites in the series. Issue is, I can't exactly recommend it to anybody, because hot damn those controls should have been better.
      For a different rail-based shooter that uses motion controls, but does so extremely well while providing alternatives, see Sin and Punishment: Star Successor for the Wii (Also known as Sin & Punishment 2). That game tries to do something similar, instead using wii remote pointer controls, and is far more intuitive and easy to pick up. I love Star Fox Zero, but it should really have had improved controls.

I was about halfway through the series when the HDMI out on my Wii U stopped working. I sent it to a local repair shop and there wasn't anything they could do. So I was stuck playing with the cables. Then, a week after I got all of them, my Wii U died. It just wouldn't turn on. I bought a second AV cable, but that wasn't it. Something really sad about the WiiU is that it has almost no first party games. Animal Crossing? A crummy spinoff. Zelda? HD versions of preexisting games, and a game that was released at the exact same time as a launch title for the new console. Fire Emblem? A crossover spinoff that has very few Fire Emblem aspects. Pokémon? One spinoff. Metroid? Nothing? Starfox? Crappy remake

    • @amirgarcia547
      @amirgarcia547 3 года назад

      Yeah, that’s the main reason why I prefer the Switch over the WiiU, even if the WiiU overall handled legacy content better. Being that the Switch has had MUCH better support for its own first-party games. You could argue about the quality of the games themselves, but it’s a huge upgrade over the WiiU having these huge droughts with basically nothing to look forward to. Enough so that the 3DS had to basically pick up a majority of its slack.
      For example, with the Switch we’ve so far had:
      Animal Crossing New Horizons
      Link’s Awakening Remake, Cadence of Hyrule, Age of Calamity and will eventually get Breath of the Wild 2
      Fire Emblem Three Houses
      Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee, Sword/Shield+its DLC, and will eventually have Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl and Legends Arceus
      And last but not least, Metroid Dread, with Metroid Prime 4 still eventually on the horizon
      The WiiU also only had a spin-off game for Kirby, whereas the Switch got Kirby Star Allies.
      The only thing the Switch really lacks is a new Mario Kart since 8 Deluxe is still selling gangbusters, or a new DK and Pikmin, but I have no doubt we’ll get ‘em eventually. Star Fox is still up in the either though due the mediocre performance of Zero though.

    Not a big fan of how the term "GACHA" is used so negatively when there are plenty of good GACHA games out there like FEH, Dragalia Lost, Azur Lane, Girls' Frontline and Arknights.
    Other than that, while I disagree with Star Fox Zero being a bad game as a whole (if the problem is the controllers then it only needs to have standard ones and done) I don't have much to complain about this list.

      Mario Kart Tour is crap. At least their other Gacha FEH is relatively generous with pulls. Not so much with prices though. Long live free to play only players! I've been playing every day since launch mostly completely free to play (I spend $40 once in year 1 but got nothing good, never spent after that) and have almost all the best units. I have Surtur, Fallen Edelgard, Legendary Corrin, Nifil, Mila, Summer Byleth, Brave Hector, Orphellia, Thrasir, Ninja Lyn, and many, MANY more OP top their units. Only ones I'm missing are Spring Gustav, Pirate Surtur, (just came out) Legendary Edelgard, and Legendary Sigurd. Plus I have a +10 mini Minerva and nearly a +10 Adult Tiki with some insanely high stats. FEH is by far the most generous gacha I've played, especially for F2P players, and has nothing scummy in it outside of Feh pass which was likely forced by Nintendo Mobile to go along with their passes for Animal Crossing Pocket Camp and Mario Kart Tour. TLDR, MKT is terrible, but not all gachas are bad, as FEH is incredibly well made and extremely generous with pulls with tons of QoL to make getting rare and OP units surprisingly easy.

    I disagree on a point made with Star Fox Zero. Games where part of the point of them is the control scheme, such as The World Ends With You (controlling two characters at once) and Super Monkey Ball (Controlling "the world" instead of your character) are great and fun games that do require you to get used to an unconventional control scheme. It isn't inherently a bad thing that you have to get used to such control schemes.
    That said, there's a difference when you're dealing with a series/standalone game that is new and focused on such a thing VS a new game in an existing series that decided to implement funky controls for the sake of it. And I'm not saying Star Fox Zero's controls are good (haven't played it, don't know), just wanted to throw in that having to get used to a control scheme isn't bad when the control scheme is good, just something new/inventive.

    I downloaded and played mario kart tour when it first came out and didn't really care for it, fast forward 2 years later and I'm still losing it over the fact that they charged $40 for Diddy Kong

    I do think there are some games controls you do really have to get used to, like classic resident evil, but that can only go so far.

    In the same vein as Mario Kart Tour, I mention: Nintendo Badge Arcade, with hypercapitalist manipulative bunny.
    People say Tom Nook is bad, but even those who say that seriously must see Nook as a saint in comparison! eech

    Honestly, I really don’t like when they try to integrate motion controls into a game that can function perfectly without it, it’s makes the game a drag to play cause I’ll be fighting the motion controls more that actually progressing the game

    I don’t fault people for liking Sticker Star, but I really wasn’t a fan. Watching Chariii5’s recent video on the game made me aware of issues I didn’t even realize when I first played it.

    Despite having kinda dropped Tour, hard (phone space being the main contributing factor), I will say it _really_ isn’t that bad. I get the distaste, but Tour has definitely improved drastically since it’s launch.
    Yes, it’s got a Gacha system, but it has a 6% baseline for rare stuff, which is pretty high for a Gacha (I’ve seen 0.5%). There’s a Landscape mode now, with Steering and items being mapped to different sides of the screen, simplifying the controls, you have much more regular Coins and Free Pipes.
    Besides that, Tour is officially recognised as a Mainline title.

      Sure it has a 6% baseline for rare stuff... but it is still predatory and trying to use manipulative tactics to force/trick people to spend more money then they should on a game.
      It is like praising the person who is trying to be your friend so they can break into your house and steal everything.

      @@Buglin_Burger7878 eh, it’s still better than most Gacha I’ve played… besides the one where the rare stuff is 100% like 90% of the time but gives you barely anything to summon with for free, for some reason, I don’t know.
      Besides that, there IS a F2P meta: save free summon resources until you want a thing. It works very well with Tour due to how it’s Gacha works. Tour has a Pool, rather than set rates like most other Gacha, and every time you summon you remove something from that pool, separating that 1% across the rest of the Items. If you manage to empty the pool, you’ve just gotten 6 Rares. I fell off, as I’ve said, but my account has some seriously good stuff.
      I will agree the system is, well, a Gacha, but I’ve got another question: why on Earth would you spend any amount of money on the Microtransactions the game has besides the Gold Pass? Literally you get 10 summons from $60 (I don’t know I forgot the prices). No way in hell I would ever spend that much. You most likely will be getting the Grand Stars by playing normally, so the Gold Pass is a substantially better option, because, last I checked, you get _twice the amount_ of Rubies from it as the most expensive general Microtransaction.

    Star Fox Zero is a weird mix because the controls are the main reasons that held it back for a better experience. If there’s ever a Switch port that reduces the motion controls then it might give players a reason to pull it up if they passed on the WiiU.
