As a Gen X guy. The 1989 930 Turbo Carerra was the quintessential sports car of the 1980s. Of course, you had the Countach and the Testarossa, but the 911 design is iconic.
As a 50-something car enthusiast, the Turbo S appeals to me far more than something like a McLaren. I feel a man reaches a level of maturity where he leaves the "look at me" cars behind in preference of a more stealthy approach to speed. I never understood this when I was a kid and my dad had a 911 and we would see a Countach (he worked in Newport Beach on PCH very close to all of the dealers down there) and I would say, "hey dad, would you rather have this (911sc) or that Countach?" And he would laugh and reply, "this". And I'd follow that up with, "how come, those look soooo cool" and he would just say, "some day, you'll understand". He is sort of the antithesis of that whole scene tho. He would very rarely drive the 911 until he got his plates in the mail, especially to church. Never liked the pretentious types. Big influence on me, which is a bit frustrating living in an area where everyone wants to add the pops and crackles tunes, the florescent wraps and flame throwing exhaust to their McLaren or Lambo to show that they are part of the "cool car guy crew" but when you look closer, 95% of the people taking videos of their antics are teenagers and dudes in their 20s that all role in piled in a 1993 Honda Civic. The other 5% are their buddies. If you criticize them, you're labeled as a "hater" and "jealous". Lol. It's an interesting scene that has given many car fanatics a bad name and sort of makes us all look douche. Hell, even when I went from a grey M3 to a Guards Red 911, my wife gave me the 🤨 look at first. Makes it hard to be an absolute car fanatic and not look like a total D-bag.
@@KosmicHRTRacingTeamyou care too much about what other people think and how you may come across. You're embarrassed by a subdued shade of red in your car? Stop thinking about those seeking attention and just enjoy that car
I had a 01 996 911, albeit an entry-level Porsche, but still a blast to drive and deceivingly fast! Also, sold it with 156,000 miles and it was surprisingly reliable too !
Absolutely love the 911. I drive a ‘24 Carrera T (if you couldn’t tell from my handle). Your turbo S is a rocket n terms of speed, mine is more of a ‘driver’s car' with a manual transmission for California canyons. Stay safe, brother and enjoy your sweet ride. Note: Andrew Tate had an interesting comment about the 992 gen 911…he said it’s a solid 9 out of 10 in all categories, no trade-offs like a 10 in one category but a 3 in another. Just a very GOOD sports car.
YES! We want to see more content like this Rich. As a car enthusiasts, Porsche owner, and fan of your relationship/financial/motivational content, sometimes it's nice to take a break from the norm and just talk cars. Earlier this year I rented a 992 C4S and even at 444hp it was fast enough to give me the same fizz from when I used to have a superbike. Approaching 800hp?? Goddamn Rich... I KNOW your shit is fast!!
Always hated the 911, went from driving Ferrari to Lamborghinis, then drove the 992 Turbo S, I'll never go back. Simply the best. Oddly enough, also quicker than an 812 Superfast, an Aventador SVJ and the Revuelto.
Being the fastest is a pointless metric nowadays. Any dual motor EV can embarrass a supercar with no warm up and 5 seats. These cars are about a thrill, handling and sound. I would love a slower V12 812/svj over any turbo. Obviously I can afford one, but I can't even make the most of my 981 S on the road (it sounds and handles better than a 911)
@Jay-xr3sb Ferrari 812 has horrible radio/hvac controls, but is a joy to drive. Aventador (and Revuelto) have that awful single clutch transmission and, at least the Aventador, is miserable to drive normally (below Mach brown-pants). Nothing like a V12 screaming behind your head, I love my Diablo SV, but until Lambo fixes their bucking weird transmission, Porsche.
Solid! The value of your car review is that of a normal person who can buy and will really use it. Plenty of other channels with greater detail, camera angles and deep experience so while expert sometimes they cannot relate to regular people anymore. A McLaren owner develops an appreciation for the high-end Porsches...dig it :-)
Same Went to being ehh with my 996 turbo to absolutley fall in love ...no bmw problems and 500 whp car with 3 boltons that can handle break and be super fast on straight
As a total gear head (Canadian) at 52 ..have several cars…track member for the last 20 years…have wrx sti Hawkeye race car 600+ hp …have 4 911’s…mosport rocks! Was looking at 720s but reliability issues parts I decided to get GT2RS …run on Hoosier r7 tires …it’s Batman crazy fast! Hit 275 klms on straight at Tremblant track….never had an issue with it ! Compared to other cars I have
Had the choice for a 997 or a 987 for the price range, bought a 2007 Cayman S (987) and love driving it. 6 speed manual with hydraulic steering, mid-engine flat6 with soul exhaust (sounds glorious). They are at the bottom of the depreciation curve so if I want to trade up, I won't lose my shirt on it.
Something I’ve always known about the 911’s is the handling in corners and S-curves… my first Porsche was a 914-6; I raced a guy who I didn’t know who had 911 Targa… Guess he didn’t realize that my 914-6 was mid-engine and it wasn’t close as he constantly had issues handling all the S-curves on the highway. But to this day, I still love the Porsche 911.
I have had 2 McLarens and they broke often so I’m done with them. I have had 17 911 Porsches; in fact, I raced 911s for Porsche from 1983-1993. None of my Porsches have ever broken down. BMWs & Mercedes brake too but not Porsches nor my Corvettes. You can put larger tires on your Turbo S. Plus a good driver will always beat an Audi S5 with a 911. My wife is on her 9th Audi S car, (S4, RS4, S5). I survived a head-on car crash in a 911 Turbo Cabriolet. Got hit by a Chevy 3500 Dually. I was driving to work to the Pentagon and the guy in the truck was running from the Police. As I was turning through a light at a large intersection the guy in the truck hit me going 81mph; I was going 30 mph. I am here today because the safety built into Porsches which are built brick-tough! 17 surgeries later and 3.5 years learning to walk again has been tough. I would not have survived in the McLaren nor the Z06. I am loyal to Porsche but I am personally irritated at how they treat their customers much like Ferrari. Thanks for sharing your story!!! Cheers‼️👍👊💪
I have a 992 gt3 that I heavily track, occasionally street drive. Love it… but also have a radical sr3 for tracking and racing. Also have a gt4rs which is my go to for street and canyon driving. My third car is a 765lt… now the McLaren 765lt is the car I go to for when I want to experience the exciting exhilarating power of it. That car is another level… it doesn’t do everything well, but if it’s utmost performance and thrills you want that’s the car to have. Porsches on the other hand, aren’t the fastest but they tackle more things better. If I’m rallying, then I want the Porsche. Atleast in that car I grab a quick call and have a conversation, and the gas tank can go a long way. The McLaren always gives me range anxieties when going long distances with a group and stops are limited.
Good afternoon Rich! I had a girlfriend many years ago. Her step-dad had a 930 Turbo. I had a pretty standard '87 Corvette (with Z-52 suspension. We swapped cars one day. Almost went off a cliff because of the understeer. I do not like understeer!
Physics and driver ability. Look who changed engine placement and who didn't. Evolution vs revolution. Look at what a 5 year old Vette is worth compared to a 911 (just as a % of original price). There's a reason for that
Subjective perspective - A sports car for me has a Manual Transmission. What newer sports cars have that option? The GT3 Touring Manual was my choice. Perhaps a 718 Spyder manual for top down fun. Every car mentioned in this video is a PDK / DC - Automatic Only. A manual transmission is way more fun to drive in the mountains (I’m in western NC). Just my 2 cents.
My little bro going from 992.1 GTS PDK to GT3t for that EXACT reason. I think he sees how much fun I have in my 997, and wants to bring a bit of that back, but with the added, more modern creature comforts. As for modern cars, the S/T has to be the pinnacle, but….
Your instructor really messed up. I’ve instructed in Porsches before and you really need to let the driver know that this is not a normal car.. drives wayyyy different. But once you figure out how it like to be driven, it is very rewarding.
I truly love articles done by bored people……at least they’d like you to think they’re bored and you’re boring them, BUT will talk to you and tell you how cool they make the world. Oh thank you, thank you, thank you……😮😊😂
Cup 2 are trash. I blame them (partially lol) for my gen 5 Viper getting totaled. Anything past 600hp, street car, no heat in tire, its r888r hands down
I had this car as well, i just put an akrapovic exhaust on and it was great. I traded it for a 992 gt3 touring with a manual and it's unbelievable. Honestly, I could use both cars but you should try the gt3 especially in manual
I have a few classics, not into new cars. Before 2010 you could get a good 70s 911 for around 15k. Today close to 100k. Sitting position is too low, more like supercar than sports car, same with 944. Boxster is better in that regard and still can get a good one for around 25k. Reason for older 911 needing to brake more before the corner is to not lift off throttle in the corner, same as the beetle
In 2005 I bought a 1971 911 for $10k … Now it’s been appraised for $170k.. I will not sell it. It’s so much fun to drive and its value keeps going up…lol It sits next to my 992 GT3… Best of both worlds
A multiple car owner here. Think of how and when you are gonna be using the car, a GT3RS is only good to show off, and on track. The more expensive the car, the more cars you'll need to satisfy your need/desires.
Richard, the 992.2 Turbo S should be fabulous with the hybrid system, turbo / power lag will be eliminated. I think it will be a pretty ig step up overall, but it will probably be more difficult to tune. For the 992.1 Turbo S you can direct fit F:265/35-20. R: 325/30-21 tires onto the exclusive design wheels (many on Rennlist do it). There are no fit problems and the speedometer error is within tolerance.
Great video. as a car guy as well, I went to a 992.1 earlier this year... then ended up getting a 997 C2S and a 87 Targa haha Porsche 911s are something special compared to whats on the road.
Jokes on you. Those that know, know. Also, you need the brake deeper and harder. Since it is Rear engine and RWD the front is super light, you need to brake hard enough to eliminate corner entry understeer. But you need to get the chassis rotated quickly and pointed in a straight line as soon as possible. Of course a Turbo S is AWD so this changes slightly. Always cracks me up to see people buy a Turbo S yet the Base 911 is still waaaaaay above their driving ability (not talking cars and coffee, drag racing Tesla or Macs). Talking proper driving at the track. Then feel need to add even more HP. Doesn’t surprise me that the 911 is boring to you, get the Lambo doors and the fluorescent wrap on the 720, and hit that Cars and Coffee meet up like you own the damn thing. Just don’t repeat half of what was said here around guys that properly track their cars, being exposed greatly reduces being a real “car guy”. That is of course, speaking of strictly driving and not peacocking, which unfortunately has hit the 911 market pretty hard over the past 8-10 years. Also, next time you go to a proper track, notice the cars that are there. Tons of Porsches (old and new), M cars, Mustangs, Miatas, classics, WRX, and even BRZ. Very very few Mac, Lambo and Ferrari. And when you do happen to see them on rare occasion, be careful about following their lines and braking points, usually they are the worst drivers, because they rarely track and they rely waaaay too much on the power of the vehicle to race guys in a straight line on the city streets (or just cruise PCH or roll into CC revving the hell out of car). Good luck with the sale, and hope the Mac brings many smiles. Let’s keep Porsche DRiVERS in Porsches and let everyone else rule CC.
Love to hear your take on it! 🤙 I drove a 911 in 2005 through the mountains of hawaii. Then a 360 Modena, and viper srt10. The Porsche pulled at my heart more than any of them.
I’m vintage myself, and drove all these types of cars back in “ the day” tricked out bugs, 912,911s even 180 turbo Chevy Corvairs. Yea sure you can learn the “ nature of the beast” and brag about how you just need to have the courage to stay on it through the turn “ and all the Road and Track magazine story BS 911 legend stuff from the 1960s and 1970s do all your braking before the turn, ( which actually is not entirely true, you can brake deep into the turn and make it work)etc etc etc. problem is on the track with other cars things happen ,other drivers cut you off or for some reason you must lift and take a different line. ( surprises happen on your favorite back roads too!)And next thing you know the 911 swaps ends on you and your in the dirt ( if your smart and doing this learning on a track)losing a lot of time while your competitors with a more balanced weight distribution can often save it when they get a little outta shape and are gone.
I own outright a 992 GT3 (< 6K miles) and a slow car is a driver's perspective. Super and exotic cars are not dragsters. They shine in the corners. And when braking into a corner always finish your braking in a straight line unless you’re trail braking and understand the technique of braking and turning at the same time. When done right the driver gradually reduces brake pressure as they approach the apex and get the car pointed where they want it earlier than traditional braking. Get it wrong and you'll spin even in a front-engine car.
High end cars are like women. When you have had them for a period of time, they get predictable and boring and temperamental, they depreciate and are costly to maintain and you are always imagine owning and thrashing a different model.
@johntheaccountant5594 While I do agree to an extent with your point, there are options out there to tick multiple boxes. The C8 being one. As a C8 owner, I can vouch that it will get you close to the supercar experience without the supercar repair bills. It is also a vehicle that you can pour miles on (track, back roads and highway) without astronomical maintenance fees. Is it a C8 Z06? No, the C8 Z06 is a supercar competitor. Yet to your point, the Z06 may have those high repair costs. That I can't speak to yet as my Z06 does not have high mileage. My C8 Stingray however is north of 200k on the odometer and has been a wonderful companion. A lot like the 911 is. Being able to own these vehicles, is a wonderful "problem" to have. 👍
Ive driven 911s for 25 years. 3 GT3s one air cooled 911Turbo S one 911 50th anniversary edition. But Porsche has lost its mind. My last gt3 was 150,000 with options. The new one 6 years later in 62% more than my 2018. $225,000 BEFORE any options . If Porsche is going to charge me Lamborghini Ferrari money for my track edition I’m going to buy a Lamborghini or Ferrari. So I sold my 2018 GT3 and bought a Huracan Technica. Couldn’t be happier, thanks Porsche. The gt3 is a great car in the $16,000 segment. But not for $300,000 after options and mark up. It’s still 500 hp. Most other cars are 650 and up. Nobody charges more for less than Porsche.
The influencers and RUclipsrs have ruined the market!!!! They are supposed to be a "bargain" sportscar with similar performance as the exotics. With all the supply and demand now, those guys have pushed the prices to similar pricing as the exotics. Kind of ruins it for people like me who would be in the GT3 market, but the markups push it out of reach. As insane of a car that the S/T is, is it really worth 3-4 times the cost of a T??
I stumbled on your video, within 30 seconds I noticed your driving in aurora by my house. Haha I might have seen recently on the way to the gym. Have a 991.2 C2s, Great cars!! Maybe a turbo S is next.
"Relatively good on gas...." Better gas mileage gets one more range given a specific fuel tank size. That results in less annoyance of having to stop in more often at gas stations.
I’ve tried hard to like Porsche’s enough to buy one but they’re just boring. Phenomenal cars, best bang for your buck but just boring. I passed on a delivery mile 992 Turbo S before the COVID pricing craziness took hold and instead chose a 8 year old F12. Their designs need to update and they need to make less of them. I live in Charlotte NC and I see a dozen 911’s every day and dozens of Porsches of every variety every day. If you’re into Nurburgring lap times, and drag strip performance for cheap money get a Turbo S, there’s nothing that will touch it. In terms of smiles per gallon I just can’t get geeked up over them and I’ve tried.
I only drive a humble 981 GTS, but if I were to go turbo S, I would not go turbo S at all, I would go base turbo and bring it to RUF. I do not know the current pricing, but from previous models I remember 10K Euros for the base upgrade, and 30K Euros for the monster upgrade. That gives you a very special car for less money than a turbo S. Top end RUFs are always unicorns... I just got my winter wheels out of storage, as I will get new winter tyres on Tuesday :)
You've got the best bang for buck car. A true sportscar is mid-engined and you have usable power levels to rev it out. An EV can out run most supercars on the road
Can concurr. I only have a Boxter S but its a great drive! Gives you plenty of confidence behind the wheel for a fun day of driving. Ignore the haters!!! - they dont understand.
Interesting you went from McLaren to Porch. My friend went the other way around from Porche to McLaren and he rates the McLaren better for power and like you were saying, for handling on the track and the ride. In his opinion there's no comparison. A lot of it is personal preference, both great cars imo.
Snap oversteer is a problem with much much older RWD turbos with no driver aides and really the biggest issue was when someone didn't know how to drive the vehicle, if there was an off camber corner and the turbo spooler up just in time as you are already at the edge of your limit of lateral Gs/traction, of course you'd loose control of the back end. If you happen to have a bit of a peak in the road at the same time, hold on. But this is OLD news, not really applicable to modern Turbos

And he would laugh and reply, "this".
Absolutely agree with this!
200,000 fun miles on my 2005 Boxster S 987!
@@jondeauxman sounds good! Porsche are attainable for many and give you all the joy you'd ever want.
The 911 is a practical supercar. Very much love my 996 Turbo :)
*sportscar
@@KosmicHRTRacingTeam The 911 is a sports car, yes. The turbo is a supercar though!
Solid! The value of your car review is that of a normal person who can buy and will really use it. Plenty of other channels with greater detail, camera angles and deep experience so while expert sometimes they cannot relate to regular people anymore. A McLaren owner develops an appreciation for the high-end Porsches...dig it :-)

911 is one of the best sports cars ever created. 911 Turbo S is a beast, I have gotten the chance to see 911 GT2 RS race car for the road.
I find Soul Performance enhances the flat-6 sound the best
Rich - get equal length headers for your 992. It will clean up the tone of the exhaust and make it sound more naturally aspirated!
Love the car videos just as much as the financial advice videos.
September 14, 1964: Production of the Porsche 911 officially begins. 60 years ago. They must be doing something right.
Your first impression was correct. The Boxster/Cayman have the engine in the correct place. If you'd rather have a 911 enjoy it.
I bought a Porsche 964 C2 back in 2009 for $14k. Bought it on Ebay. Its worth over $100k now. Yup, I could spot a great investment and a great car.
I have had 17
911 Porsches; in fact, I raced 911s for Porsche from 1983-1993.
Cheers‼️👍👊💪
Wow! Glad to hear you survived the crash! Makes me proud as a German Porsche driver that German engeneering saved your life.
Love the work you do for all men...
....but it is pronounced "Porsh-ugh". Not "Porsh".
The 911 is the best overall car you can drive, ie: daily driver and also a blast to throw around in the twisty’s, always loved them!
I own a Porsche. I used to be an AMG man.
I find the Porsche brand SO OVERRATED. SO, SO, OVERRATED.
Kudos to clever marketing by Porsche though.
🤫
Anything past 600hp, street car, no heat in tire, its r888r hands down
I was 21 when I bought my own manual 911, still have it to this day!
Dunden Exhaust.
It's called "trailing throttle oversteer."
In 2005 I bought a 1971 911 for $10k … Now it’s been appraised for $170k..
I will not sell it. It’s so much fun to drive and its value keeps going up…lol
It sits next to my 992 GT3… Best of both worlds
Check out dbcarbon carbon fiber cover for the piano black center console. Amazing quality German product and they match the OEM carbon perfectly.
Oh yeah
I was number 911 to like this video, I didn't think that stuff happened
Hey rich great video keep the car videos about cars coming looking forward
A multiple car owner here. Think of how and when you are gonna be using the car, a GT3RS is only good to show off, and on track. The more expensive the car, the more cars you'll need to satisfy your need/desires.
So Rich you pronounce Audi correctly but the other car is pronounced Porsha!
I used to work at Rusnak Porsche in CA. Our Mechanics would call the 911 a bucket of bolts
What tune did you put on the car?
Great video Rich, Yes more car content please.
Cayman still handles better
10:50 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
How much is the Porsche's stability is due to design vs. Electronic dampening that won't let you drive it beyond your skill level?
Hi Rich, do you buy cars cash or finance
Love this Rich
Thank you as always

Love to hear your take on it! 🤙
I drove a 911 in 2005 through the mountains of hawaii. Then a 360 Modena, and viper srt10. The Porsche pulled at my heart more than any of them.
And if you compare it to the F1 shifting in the Modena, it's even a bigger disappointment
it's Porsch-a
What year is your car
I’ve owned 3 Porsches. All 991s. Two were GTSs. Arguably the sweet spot. Too bad Porsche doesn’t offer the latest in a manual.
It’s so weird, I don’t get your videos in my subscription box even though I set I literally have to coming back here to check for new uploads
Porsche has been all I’ve bought since I was 19. Definitely no substitute once you get the dynamics down

Get it wrong and you'll spin even in a front-engine car.
miss my 996 cabriolet everyday
High end cars are like women. When you have had them for a period of time, they get predictable and boring and temperamental, they depreciate and are costly to maintain and you are always imagine owning and thrashing a different model.
@johntheaccountant5594
While I do agree to an extent with your point, there are options out there to tick multiple boxes. 👍

911S is crazy fast and handles amazing.
pors CHE LOL.
As a german who lives close to the Nürburgring, you gotta go there one day, its an amazing experience, especially with Porsches
I would rather have a porsche then a ferrari
My 911 was the only car I could beat on and nothing bad ever happened. Under a quarter tank of gas, got a little squirrelly on the front end.
Not the same as the 911 but I love my Panamera Turbo (s) 2010 G1.
The new 911s are great, I am too tall for them.
I stumbled on your video, within 30 seconds I noticed your driving in aurora by my house. Haha I might have seen recently on the way to the gym.
Have a 991.2 C2s, Great cars!! Maybe a turbo S is next.
Did you enjoy the Porsche more than the r8 and mclaren?
Do you experience any wind buffeting with the windows down?
Only at high speeds
"Relatively good on gas...."
Better gas mileage gets one more range given a specific fuel tank size.
That results in less annoyance of having to stop in more often at gas stations.
The biggest problem to getting good mileage is keeping your foot off the accelerator pedal, the difference is staggering.
A cost break down on the 911 ownership video would be cool
Even the worst Porsche is miles above the least disagreeable woman with tattoos and piercings!
How many cars do you own?
Got a Porsche and one of the differences is compatible performance and it won't spend the same time at the mechanics shop.
Porsch Uh
Chalk color is probably the best neutral color that Porsche offers. Still saving for a 911 so got a few years to go with more grinding!
If you have to explain what makes Porsche's special, they'll never get it.
996 6MT owner here, interested if they bring a 992 manual, PDK was too boring to justify owning
I think the new GTS has a manual option.
@ the T will, rumor is the base turbo will have one a la the sport classic…we will see
Interesting you went from McLaren to Porch. My friend went the other way around from Porche to McLaren and he rates the McLaren better for power and like you were saying, for handling on the track and the ride. In his opinion there's no comparison. A lot of it is personal preference, both great cars imo.
Snap oversteer is no joke. 💯
Lexus vs Porsche? Is Lexus more reliable?
Yes. But Lexus isnt as performance oriented, and for a performsnce car, the 911 is as reliable as it gets.
