That whole exchange was great. Brandon made Eric so playful in those moments. "Do you know someone named T-Bird? He had a friend who shouldn't have played with knives. Like the coat?"

I feel like Heath Ledger based some of his performance as Joker on Brandon Lee's performance as Eric Draven. They're similar in that they both died before their most well known films were released and never lived to see them.

It was all due to stupidity, too. They sent the weapons master home to save money, and put the props master in charge of the guns. Apparently, some of the crew had been using them for target practice, and a spent shell casing got lodged in the barrel. A few weeks later, that same gun was loaded with extra powder to produce a flash for the camera, and the combo acted just like a real bullet. Michael Massee was so traumatized by the shooting, that he never watched the film for the rest of his life.

The original Crow with Brandon lee is the greatest of all the crow media even better than the original graphic novel it's based on, the tv show they based off the movie was horrible and disrespected brandons legacy as the original Eric Draven in the comic he's just called eric and the events and characters are way different from the movie so really Brandon lee refined the crow character and has owned it ever since #GreatestMovieOfAllTime

  • @Bobby_Hall

A few days ago I watched The Crow for the first time in about 20 years. I think it’s a pretty good movie, but I wish there was more character development and more going on with the plot. I felt like we didn’t know that much about the characters and they didn’t have much to do, but stylistically the film is amazing, and there are a lot of nice things about it. It gives me a very nostalgic 90s feeling. I remember the first CD I ever bought was The Crow soundtrack. I believe I saw the movie in theaters but I can’t remember exactly. I also remember when I was a teenager my brother painted my face to look like The Crow for Halloween. ;) One part of the movie that I felt was extremely effective was the ending when Eric visits Shelly’s grave. It brought tears to my eyes as I was watching. It was both a happy and sad ending. Happy because Shelly’s spirit comes to Eric so they can be together again, but also sad because of the sorrow and tragedy of their deaths. It was a very bittersweet moment and the musical score by Graeme Revell beautifully complemented that scene, and the whole movie as well. Of course Brandon Lee’s death adds an extra layer of sadness to the movie, too. The musical score is so good that it makes me want to purchase it to go along with the soundtrack that I still have.

Drumdums: This was a great review (greetings from CROATIA btw ;) ) I ve noticed that not so many reviewers are reviewing this movie, but much more its sequels. As far as your review.... lets just say that I personally have TOTALLY SAME feelings and nostalgic memories of this masterpiece....like I imagine U have. I was 14 when it came out and..... that was the time of my life (1993-1994) when 3 of my favorite musicians and actors have died....Kurt Cobain, River Phoenix and Brandon Lee. Even to this day, I clearly remember where I was, and what was I doing every time I heard about one of those 3 died. Therefore I really liked that you shared your own feelings about Brandon in first 5 mins of review...... because, even I was 13 at the time, and the war in Croatia was at its highest point..... I ll never ever forget how I felt in 1993 and 1994.... and how much those 3 super talented people affected my life, and defined my future life style, behavior, empathy, weakness and......stuff...... OK, I ll finish this post thanking you for making all this stuff still important and worth talking about..... especially for people who suffers from deep depression, anxiety, panic attacks and.....well, I'll stop here... Love and respect from Croatian fan!

One of the scenes that really stand out for me, is when Eric is laughing as the kids run around him. At one point, the camera zooms in on his face, in slow motion, than pauses. That for me, always stood out and still does today. It was a powerful, sad moment considering what happened to Brandon Lee on set. Damn, I love this movie so much! One of my all time favorites.

I fell in love with this movie ever since I first was told about it by one of my ex girlfriends that loved this movie. I can't believe this movie came out just 4 short months before I was born. Damn. This is the only Crow movie I've ever had/seen. I've watched parts of another one, I think, that I caught on TV...but I forget which one. Haha. Take it easy, and don't forget, Conversations Kill, Lee. I freaking love that they added Stone Temple Pilots into this movie. Love me some STP. P.S. I always thought the quote "It can't rain all the time" meant like it won't always be sadness..you won't always have to go through shit. There must always be a light side...a light to the dark, in other words. Also, I just found out Hollywood's trying to remake The Crow, but Alex doesn't want them to because he wants this film to be Brandon's Legacy, and I gotta say, I think it would degrade Brandon's memory if it was remade. What do you think?

That's awesome...I would've loved to have been able to see this movie in the theater. Most of all my favorite movies I wasn't able to see in the theaters because I either wasn't born yet or my parents wouldn't let me and I was too young to drive or I just didn't know anything about the movie beforehand. I need to get this movie on Blu-Ray and I'm trying to get a Steelbook version. I used to have a DVD version, but I have no idea where it went, and I used to watch it pretty much 24/7 when I first got it...I just fell in love with the movie. It is really weird though how I have no idea where it went, because I'm pretty sure it barely left my PS3 (what I used to watch movies on until I got a PS4)

Great video! The Crow is one of my all-time favorites! I remember watching Brandon Lee, growing up in the 90s. I saw Rapid Fire on VHS, and saw The Crow on the same format. It was only later that I learned Brandon had been killed.
The look and feel of this film always blew me away. As a student of Gothic literature, it really touches on the total feelings, of love and sadness, and melancholy. Much of this has to do with the look, but also the sound. The music is two-fold excellent, with a remarkable OST and licensed soundtrack. Good point about most of the movie being black-and-white. Much of it is dark and rainy and most of the color is muted or subdued. Heavy use of red in the background also emphasises various themes that move back and forth. There's a lot going on, here, with love and death intertwining. And to its credit, the movie doesn't try to separate them, anymore than Emily Bronte did, in Wuthering Heights. It views each component through the total, haunted lens.
Your points about Eric are absolutely on point. He really is more invested in revenge than being with the living. But at the same time, a part of him does care. And at the end of things, two people are still in graves, side-by-side, united by their intense, special love for each other. There's a great beauty in their love as something that holds up through intense tragedy and waste.
One of my favorite films, with one of my favorite performances by any actor. Brandon dug deep and produced something intricate, unhinged and sympathetic; it easily could have been rote and mechanical, but he delivered something very special. Thanks to him, and virtually everyone else involved in this project, this movie speaks to my like no other! RIP Brandon!

It's funny that you mentioned Heath Ledger as the joker because when I first saw the Dark Knight in the theater, I said to myself...I saw a lot of Brandon Lee in Heath's performance! I have not just the soundtrack of the movie, but also the score and have listened to them hundreds of times. But every time I hear the song ; It Can't Rain All The Time, and the part of the score called; Return To The Grave, I often find it hard to avoid shedding tears because of the terrible disaster that ended Brandon's life, and how that unique but sad sounding music always reminds of it. But there were at least 4 factors that led to the disaster: 1 In the shooting of previous scenes where guns were fired at him, after the director yelled out "cut" Brandon had been repeatedly pretending he was unconscious. But when he really was, the others thought he was still doing the same, and so no one paid any attention to him for at least an hour after he was shot. 2 Brandon was not wearing a bullet proof vest, even though he was advised to by the wardrobe supervisor. 3 There was no weapons expert on set at the time. 4 The gun was not checked before it was loaded for the scene, and together the fully loaded blank and the led tip that was unknowingly stuck in the barrel provided the impact of a real live bullet. This and heaps more information is provided in the book; The Crow, the story behind the film. But if he'd survived, Brandon might've ended up in a wheelchair due to being shot in the spine. And I think he would've preferred to die than end up like that. R I P Brandon dude, and may God bless you for how well you did at your final but best movie..

I agree with everything said in this review. Props to you sir.
This is the one. This is my favorite film of all time. I’m man enough to admit that this film gets me right in my heart. I grew up a Bruce Lee fan and then a Brandon Lee fan from Rapid Fire. I was following through the martial arts magazines about Brandon filming The Crow. Then I remember finding out at Lunch from high school that Brandon Lee was shot on the set of the Crow. I went back to school praying that he would be okay but when I got home later, I found out he had died. Broke my heart. The Crow didn’t come out until almost a full year later after Brandon passed, and I had to go see it to say goodbye. And what ended up happening was me awed at Brandon’s masterful performance in a dark and haunting film that is just brilliant.
It wasn’t goodbye to Brandon. It was hello. Because The Crow became my all time favorite film of all time and the closest I keep to my heart. Brandon Lee was gone but you said his legacy lives on in The Crow. I couldn’t agree more. Brandon’s legacy survives strongly in this masterpiece of cinema and that will keep him around forever.
    #BrandonLeeForever
Side note - The cinematography, the atmosphere, the cast, the soundtrack, the score, the action, etc, it was all top notch, or in other words, Top Dollar.

I saw it in 94 the first time in a midnight showing with a bunch of goth kids, industrial music fans, and vampire live action role-players. It was a really cool experience. I think it is a great movie, but like you it really spoke to a time in my life. I can't view it objectively. It is too special to me.

I always loved this movie it’s one of my favorites easily as well . The fact that Eric and Shelly died who was basically Sara’s mom and dad that she never really had so to Darla’s lack then she is left with nothing as well and I found that to be just as sad as the death of Eric and Shelly. I been working on a fan film project and it’s the most fun I’ve had out of it cuz I can relate as most people could relate to the character of Eric Draven dealing with loss. I hate Brandon died as well as Heath they would have gone to be two of the most successful actors today . I always did wonder idk for sure if they caught who switched the guns on set? Beautiful memorial review and great review as always brother.

The Crow(1994) was ahead of it's time in terms of tone & storytelling. It was a breath of fresh air that was a game changing film for it's day. I'm gonna confess that I had a crush on Bai Ling during my late teens & early 20s. The soundtrack is an encapsulation of what was great about Alternative rock at that time. Brandon Lee's performance is incredible & he disappears into the part. My rating: Platinum Class certification. An important work of art that's timeless.

This is one of those movies that will be immortalized due to the circumstances surrounding it. I remember watching The Crow on VHS maybe a couple years after Brandon Lee had passed (I might’ve been 8 or so), and even though I was too young to understand the themes...the atmosphere, visuals, and music stuck with me. And of course, Brandon’s performance as Eric Draven... Truly immersive. You really can’t take your eyes off of him when he’s on the screen. 25 years later and The Crow still holds up and is easily one of my top favorite films of all time.

I love your reviews , because i love horror movies and i like to hear other people opinions, sometimes they make points i did not get it. But besides loving horror movies i do love super heroes and anti heroes movies. You just touched my favorite anti hero movie, what happened to Brandom Lee was a tragedy, still the movie was really well done, it is hard to see that the he was dead at the end and some parts were made with cgi(really good for the time) and with doubles.
The crow is kinda diffrent from is comics counter part, yet both versions have a beautiful story, and both touch on death sadness and how to let that feelings go. The crow is one of the most beautiful stories i've seen in movies, and i've seen a lot of movies, i like the care and love you put in this review while talking about the crow because this movie deserves it, i dare to call it a masterpiece, too bad none of the sequels were quiet like the original, i hope the remake makes justice to the crow's name once again and that it's going to be a nice tribute to brandom Lee.
I can't agree more with what you said about this movie, it is one the movies of my life and i'm waiting for too long for a crow movie that gives the feelings the original did but i have high hopes that the remake is going to be just like that

Its a very detailed book; you should definitely read it.

I had to wait for it to come on TV, and Starz was running a free weekend type deal and low and behold, The Crow was playing the last day of the free weekend. It was a Sunday evening around 6:30pm. a quick little anecdote from Brad Pitt
I remember back in the early days I hung out with Brandon Lee. He drove a hearse and lived in Echo Park. We went out one night and everyone else had peeled off, and we ended up back at his place and it was like six in the morning. A real, you know, drunk and stony night, and he proceeded that night to tell me how he thought he was going to die young like his dad. And I just chalked it up to, you know, stony 6:00 a.m. talk. Then he got The Crow (1994) the next year.
