They did such a good job making it look like a 70s movie. Everything was on point from the visuals to the acting.
Years ago Ti West released House Of The Devil. 70s set low key horror about a cult. It is so well made you honestly can not tell it is a modern movie, it looks absolutly genuine to the 70s period.
@@backtoearth1983 You call it low-key but I've never seen such a dread-filled movie before. Yeah it kicks up at the end after not much happening but holy cow the beginning 75% of the movie is so intensely well-crafted it makes your stomach turn from anxiety.
The dead body in the basement was actually a man shown on as missing on the back of a milk carton in later scene with Kid Cudi! Hence why the body was also rotted and nasty. this wasn’t Pearl or Howard’s first time killing.

Mia Goth playing both Maxine and Pearl is such a good twist. She also plays a young Pearl in the new prequel „Pearl“.

@@kayleemariee239 A majority of the people I know like going in knowing absolutely nothing. If I see a trailer I skip it. So the only thing I knew was that Mia Goth was in it, not specifically what roles she played. And that it was an A24 film.

I think she kinda is tho. Of course Brittany is iconic but if you would ask the internet who's name they would recognize first it would be Jenna. Brittany has a longer filmography and played in well known movies but Jenna is kinda the hot rising star right now you can hear her name everywhere so I understand why they would say that she is more famous or has the most name recognition especially with young people.

@@luciddream7322 ok yeah i agree with that. jenna’s definitely more recognizable to younger people. i’m so excited for the wednesday show! i just grew up watching ms brittany. she’s definitely the person i came to see in x bc she’s so iconic. love her! but jenna and mia definitely stole the show for me in this movie, especially mia.

MaXXXine will be taking place in Hollywood in the mid 80s. 1985 if I’m not mistaken. What makes these character deaths so tough was like all of them were likable or at the very least sympathetic. Usually slashers don’t have as many characters like that.
Agreed. I loved that aspect as well because normally in films they portray those working in the porn industry as sleazy and despicable. But these people were likable, excited about making a film, and very mature about sex and relationships. Meanwhile, the older, supposedly wiser, religious couple are the murderous psychopaths.
I think Pearl‘s motivation was her being overall resentful of youth and youthful people getting to do what she can’t anymore. Besides her being deranged obviously. The prequel goes a lot more in depth.

Pearl was great, really gives you an idea of her mental state in X.. also wanted to point out , Pearl and X were shot at the same time, which is pretty neat to know.. and the movies in chronological order say, "Pearl x Maxine" which is cool cause they're basically identical characters in the end, and also opposing forces in X, creative
After I walked out of the theater for Pearl i was wondering if they shot it at the same time because I feel like that would be smart time wise and then just release it at different itmes!

Seen this movie twice (Pearl twice as well) and watched COUNTLESS reactions now, and it just occurred to me how VERY cold-hearted Howard was.
He can't have sex because it will kill him, but he can murder someone in cold blood and his heart rate doesn't go up? That is some Hannibal Lecter shit.
Now I want a "Howard" movie to see his story. Why is he so messed up?

Rj was a hypocrite and a loser for his response to Loraine. he literally explained to her why it’s not a big deal to then turn around and cry about it, as if he didn’t basically give her the green light to ask about it.
The fact that in the beginning of the movie, she said that she never agreed to help him film porn, and he just shamed her for being a prude 💀 AND NOWWWW she wants to be involved and he gets mad

You better not watch Pearl without us. It's not available online only in the Cinemas so it's hard to watch for now. It's releasing online around November I think

YES, so glad you guys did this movie reaction!! I loved the parallels, easter eggs, and the themes that I picked up on were religious purity culture, how youth is so tied to beauty in today's society, and a woman's "need" to feel desired! The sequel Maxxxine is her story after X set in 80s LA!

I really hate that they made all characters (victims) likable in the movie. Well I guess except for the director by a tiny amount. I got bummed when they got killed.

I felt so anxious watching this in theaters that the scene where Pearl stabs Wayne with the fork made me laugh. I almost had to leave my seat because I couldn’t stop. I can’t really explain it lol
If you guys watch the Pearl prequel, just know it's a very different kind of horror movie than X. I was able to enjoy the movie having known that, but it would be extremely jarring if you go into Pearl expecting the things you saw in X

As you all touched upon, I'm thrilled that Ti West and Mia Goth are both making the sequel, MAXXXINE. 🐊 I grew up in Louisiana... alligators are intimidating, to say the least.
