i made a 24 Hour race by bicycle on the Nurburgring (Germany). The feeling of working in a team 24 hours a day is overwhelming. I can very well understand the enthusiasm of the participants. It doesn't matter what kind of event you do 24 hours a day, it's always a special experience. A great event and I think the participants had a lot of fun
I'm sorry but 24h working for a cycling race team doesn't look like much work · Each lap is like 10 minutes long · No big crashes or mechanical problems possible · Cycling endurance races usually involve 5-6 riders instead of 3 drivers like professional motorsport endurance racing
I've come to this a little late; only watched the 2018 this morning but I love it already. Love how you start just like the real race under a pace car. Awesome.
I did the same. First year our league did such an event. We fielded 2 cars under 2 names, but the same 10 'staff'. Team 1 was actually 6 individuals, our best drivers and engineer. Team 2 was 3 drivers plus me as crew. Our 'Pro' car won the event. Only just. But that's all it takes. The team I worked on I THINK ended the race in 4th, but I would need to go back and check the record books. (of which, I was on the box a combined total of 16 of the 24 hours, I didn't drive, I have no talent around the track). I coordinated driver changes and pit stop cycles for our car. One driver could nap, take a stint on the box while I got some rest, the other driver would crew, and they could switch out driver duties as they wished while I was asleep. you don't NEED a crewman for pit stops, but it sure does help. I've since hung up from racing in the league. I was GOOD when we had 60 drivers. But we've to 400 drivers. I can't compete anymore. BUT I'd love to get into crew/spotter roles instead. I fielded 2 cars in 2022 for 2 events. the first event was my other driver's first league start ever. in an LMP1 at Watkins Glen for a 2 hour event. I spotted him to a P4 in his split. I .... Did far worse.. I was also in a GT3. Kinda told me right then and there I'd be best suited for spotter/crew duties than driving as such a high level.
I remember as a kid growing up, I had the TYCO/AFX tracks. One was the Super Dooper Double Looper and it was awesome! Such great memories but NOTHING like these tracks and cars. WOW!
I've just had my first Geekgasm/Nerdgasm! 🤣 This is brilliant! This must be exhausting for the teams, drivers and race officials. Especially the race officials, who must have to concentrate far harder than the drivers in order to keep 'track' of everything? Actually exhausting in equal measure for all involved, no doubt, so well done all! ✌️❤️👍
This is insanely good. I was vaguely aware there was essentially RC Scalextric cars nowadays, but to see a race of this scale is amazing. Things have changed a little bit from the time I had my Escort vs Corsa figure 8 set haha.
Carrera digital is pretty impressive. 8 cars on one two lane track, ability to change lanes, drone cars that change lanes randomly and autonomously, pit stops to refuel or your car shuts down, pretty cool.
Receiving something for participation is fine depending on why people receives it. If it is just a token to say I participated in this event then that is fine as everyone gets one include those that get trophies. If people receive it because someone else doesn't want someone to feel bad because they didn't win, that is stupid and not okay.
Good stuff, just getting into this thing, I bought 2 1'32scale cars a while ago, 1 carerra corvette c7r and the is 1 Scalextric McLaren 12c GT3. Now. I just got a smaller scale 1'48 Carrera go. It's very nice. It took me back to my tyco and Afx days.
"Back in the day . . . " slot car racing had a handful of well knowns that could get sponsorship from the parts and kit manufacturers. It was about at the level of how skate boarding is now, at least from my then young teenager vantage point. They'd be guys in their late teens or early twenties; long hair, bell bottoms, etc. That was 1/24 scale in the U.S.A. I was into 1/32 scale and fabricated as much as I could of the chassis by soldering up brass sheet, tubing and rods. Never rewound a motor though. It's a great hobby to learn various skills a young person can use in other facets of life for ever.
Cool track, my upmost favorite. Always been my favorite 24 endurance, scale is different. The determination is the same 👍. If I had the chance, hand me the keys to the c7r corvette.
I wish we had something like that here in Washington State I have slot cars AFX and all that stuff but I really really wish there was a large Warehouse here with a track like that to give everybody a chance to love this hobby and why I still love my slot cars
slot car has came a long way since i last was racing. Before if you had like a 6-8 slot track thats all the cars you could have. changing lanes didnt exist which is awesome they added. I may have to check about getting back into it.
Absolutely incredible guys…. Gary Skip for prime minister!! Question: Will you ever consider raising the track from the floor. It might make car ID and cinematics easier…

@@DiegoRuiz1991 it's a lot of work, just nothing compare to the amount of work needed in motorsport
There are 24h cycling on the Bugatti circuit at Le Mans if you are interested 😉
@@DiegoRuiz1991 So what? Still lot's of work involved, no matter the sport. Stop gatekeeping

this is a tradition to watch every year from your channel, love this content and never stop documenting this!
This race is truly insane. Having a go at slot cars 24 hours is tough on You. Brilliant comments and editing. Looking forward to the next part.

I did 24 hour race in iracing around spa, the feeling of being in a team that is ticking over for 24 hours is just immense

I plan on doing the same but I don't have a team and it's in Gran Turismo instead of IRacing.
Try it solo then get back to me
@@roblapouple7552 that is not fun, the whole fun is racing with a team and having a laugh
No
OMG!!! I had an AFX set back in the 70s trying to mimic this course. Truly impressed
LOVE THIS!!! My father got me into slot cars in the late 1960's with Eldon. Nice to see this continued. Thanks for sharing.
This event is truely truely fantastic!
I'm looking forward to it every year!
Wow this is awesome. Didn't know such a race existed.
I haven't figured out how a car can pass another one in front of it in the same slotted lane?
Que coisa mais linda!!!❤️❤️❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The effort and skill in this is remarkable. Great stuff I never knew anything like this existed.
How is there skill 😂

Excelent coverage mate, nice takes on the camera and lots of action ! Yeah!
So great!!!
We had a 6Hours Race on our Track, but 24Hours!!! Wow... 🤩
The only time in my life I'm cool with participation awards! 🤣
Im an RC guy but this is so badass! 🔥
As a fellow RC guy…after seeing this I’m thinking of seeing whether those at my club would be up for a 24hr race …would be epic for sure lol

Reliving our trouble ridden start did not make for pleasant viewing! Looking forward to it getting better in Part Two 😅
It's not how it starts 😉

Well done John, nice coverage!
It's been a very very long time since I last played with slot-cars (scalextric set from the 1980s)...
How do you control the changing of lanes?
Awesome! I had slot cars as a kid in the 60's.
The commentary makes all the difference. What a phenomenal job!
Enjoyed this. Speed's were more realistic than the blurs you quite often see in slots.
This just brings back so many memories.
Fantastique !!!!

you've gotta be crazy to do that for 24 hours , but each to their own

For me in the looks dept it's a hard choice between the Gulf Nissan and the #16 car; that looks gorgeous.
This is way more interesting than the "Presidential" reporting. :)

Looks like fun
Looks great! Would be good to see slow mo crashes with a high FPS camera. Thanks for video.
Awesome
Very cool !
I’m curious how many tires the teams went through and the rubber buildup in the turns.
What they should do is put fpv cams in there now. I’ve seen some peeps do that. Would make it more interesting and easier for the drivers.
When I move, my son and I are building one... ... ...and he BETTER stay up!!!
Gaw damn...this is better than watching actual race
