  • Seen here is a compilation of the Hawker cars all over the orange line before the shutdown. Their last run was August 19th, 2022. It’s wild to think that these cars are finally gone. I’ll miss their wonky chime and the nostalgia they bring.

I commend you for making this fine compilation. The angles from fields / Street view are what I've wanted to do for a while but wasn't able to make time for. Very glad to see this footage preserving the experience of these trains. I am in disbelief they're gone so suddenly while also surprised they somehow made it this far considering their condition. Nearly every element of these cars, their originality, air brakes, chimes, aesthetic and basically everything about them were a unique nostalgic experience that one had to ride in person. I believe they're also some of the last trains with a braking system very similar to the Pre-GOH R-44s, sounding nearly identical to how they used to, although the older Pullman Red Line cars seem to also have this (now it's eyes on them, but they're not original from the 70/80s and have been refurbished and don't feel the same). Long Live the Hawkers. I'm completely unsurprised none have returned to service and Orange Line service remains at a reduced frequency, but hopefully somehow the best pairs do make it back out if needed, unless it's actually been confirmed they're all retired. Even so, it's not the same without hearing the entire line with 100% hawkers as I've experienced it in June and November 2021.

Didn't know these subway cars have finally retired. Never got the chance to visit Boston or see those in person. They were my favorite. Some of them had those strange door chimes that I really loved the most.

Thank you very much for this excellent video presentation, it is great that you have saved the memory of these trains in sound and vision for posterity and you are to be greatly admired for doing this. It is always sad to see older rolling stock depart permanently after serving the people so well for many years. Electric trains will last for a considerable time if given the right care and attention. I knew of one railroad that finally retired their trains when they were 80 years old!
We really appreciate the work that you have done on this presentation, which is very much appreciated by the people.

I was able to get a shot of the 1507 red line car coming into Central Square. There are only 22 of the 1969-1970 Pullman-Standard cars in service, so it was pretty cool to see.

Nice! I never personally used the orange line much, but I'll certainly miss seeing these things when I do. The 1400s are.... uhh
