I haven't seen that part before but the single-chip PSUs in a lot of other appliances like washing machines and dishwashers are notorious for failing, often violently, from slight power surges. The TOP2xx / TNY2xx / LNKxxx are more commonly known for this.
I bought a sony SLV x810 vcr today from a tv/vcr repair here in Australia records in both PAL and NTSC i was dropping off my 1993 PAL Akai dolby surround vcr hifi sound doesn't work on it hope they can fix it
Hey Dave, I have a Sony VCR late model and the unit will run fine but if it is unplugged from the mains then reconnected it will not power on not even the red standby light. Have to leave it overnight then usually it will startup ok. I did find if I drain the cap on the primary side of the PS then it would startup ok too. Could not see any dry joints and looks very clean inside.
question, Are there any parts on these older machines that might be useful to salvage like that chip that could be used on future repairs? if space was not really a big problem of course.
Mike, I am curious why you don’t prove your suspicion of a bad chip by killing the power, set your meter for resistance, and go “ pin-to-pin” looking for a resistance considerably less than 600 ohms. I touch pins 1 and 2 with a probe and pins 7 and 8 . Ten 3 and 4 to 6 and 5. So on till you get a low reading .
I think it's cheaper to check which voltages this unit needs and get a Meanwell unit and cut out the faulty one from the PCB. There should be plenty of room in this chassis.
Had that machine, exact same problem got rid of mine ,found out that all of those machines had that problem, my neighbor had the same machine exact same problem!!!!
The days have long gone when you kept a few of these chips in your spares cabinet. Today the postage and minmum order charges make buying one chip not worth it.
Problem with Sony today is their products are no longer made in Japan like they use to be. They make them now in Mexico & not China as they both have poor bad quality. -Cheers!
Thank you for making these vids. It gives the electronics hobbyist hope when you can’t even find a willing repairman nevermind parts.
There are fewer and fewer wanting to touch any of this stuff and I can hardly blame them.
@@12voltvids It looks daunting but I appreciate the knowledge being passed.

Yes, replaced dozens of lnk304s in washers and dryers

Its the chip. Give it power and it will oscillate
That 750 was a real bad egg!!
A piece of crap

This is a Samsung. I suggest to keep the mechanism, the clutch in these is notorious for failing due to the x400 speed rewind.

I've seen it before on same model
I'm in the UK and had exactly the same problem.luckily I had a spare from an old machine.

Not just Sony, it’s all brands and manufacturers
@@danielgilpin6968 No, Most are made in China but not Sony.
Looks like the same mech that was in a Samsung DVD VCR combo that I got at Goodwill.
You're right, it's the Samsung TS-10 mechanism.
