I still have mine. The best thing about it was that it was so small, so nice looking, and provided reasonably good sound quality. The EX1 was the first model, and came with a beautiful birdseye maple finish. There were others with different wood colors, but this one was the nicest looking.
i stumbled on one few weeks ago for $15. Then i got a remote from ebay for $20. i love it! i looked it up. these were going from $250$-300 back in 2000. so happy with it!
Nice! :) I can't remember if I have the remote for mine, but it's great to have tho, as there's often some extra features/settings on that, compared to just on the unit itself.
I found a pair of these speakers in EC today in a thrift for just $10. Hooked them up to my receiver at the shop and I'm absolutely stunned by how good these things can sound. On a desk 2-3 feet apart, 2-3 feet away from the listener, they provide incredible imaging, depth, clarity, and even bass within reason. I bought these to resell, but I may have to keep them.
Yeah, they're definitelly amoung the better ones, amoung the ones I've listen to in it's category :) Also, the design (in my opinion) is very nice on both the unit, and the speakers :)
Nice score. I have one, but I bought it new back in 2000, and the going price then was around $400. I've since paired it up with a small powered sub to fill in the low end.

this looks like the best cd player i want a cd player for when i run out of space on vinyl and for albums that dont have official vinyl releases but do have official cd releases (e.g channel orange by frank ocean) but i dont want a super big one that takes up space cos i dont have the space for it. i see those wall mounted ones on tiktok but they have issues but this seems like a perfect option, it has good quality, is small, and i can use my headphones or current speakers and i can see the disc spin which is very important to me
As long as you find one in working order, and at a decent price, it wouldn't be a bad choice :) Especially if you're going to use headphones or your current speakers :)
I found the speakers only for 10bucks i pluged into my Sony DAV S300 (tripath 2020 transistor) and the oem modded sub sounds incredible together, very high endish sound.
@@jakesventure7804 I saw it in charity shop for £25, I honestly didn't know anything about it but could see it was a high end system. So I googled it and when I saw what they sold for I immediately picked it up!
So, for any of you guys who own this, if you've had the chance to compare its sound to other high-end audio speakers such as Monitor Audio BX1 or other brands such as B&W, Wharfedale and so on... How would you say they fare against them? Can they compete?
It's good for what it is, but no, I wouldn't say it competes with high-end seperate speakers, and seperate amp. However, the price (at least when buying used), is quite a lot cheaper on this Sony tho..
@@TS84NO Thank you. My parents had them, actually, they still do (although the left tweeter's gone). I have a pair of MA BX2 but I need a secondary stereo, nothing fancy, mainly for an old TV whose speakers are broken (my play station 3 is plugged in and usually listen to some youtube when I'm in the room). I remember they had a very good sound as I grew up listening to them, but since I haven't listened to them in years, I can't recall what they sounded like. I have the opportunity to get a pair for about $40 and, as I'm used to my BX2, I don't want the difference in quality to bother me much. This is why I was asking. Thanks.
Not sure if there's an easy way, but I dissasembled the unit, and cleaned it that way. I wouldn't recomend that, if you're not sure about getting it all togehter again tho..
Hi Sean, I recently took mine apart to replace the mechanism drive belt (it was starting to stick when ejecting a disc). I also took the opportunity to clean inside the glass as well. If you google "CMT-EX1 service manual" there are very useful diagrams showing how to take the unit apart. I found that these units are very well built and come apart and go back together quite nicely.
I just bought mine at facebook marketplace even though I had to drive 100 miles (round trip) to pick them up. But the unit I got is in like a new condition, the unit's owner really took good care of it. But I wonder what sub you would recommend, I don't need big sub, a small used one would satisfy my need.
Nice! Well, it all depends on your taste really, and what size of room you're using it in. But personally, I wouldn't go for anyhting bigger than 6.5", or max 8", and then just look at my local dealers to see what's in my budget.. (just spend some time adjusting the level, if you're adding a sub)
I only use it once in a while, so I don't keep it plugged in. Not sure if there's any way to turn of that blue light, if you DO keep it plugged in tho.
@@TS84NO I think Im going to be using mine frequently so I just get weird about plugging it in and out repeatedly. I’m sure I’ll figure something out , thank you !

@@jfkanye5001 Owned one since new. Some of the buttons on the remote are wearing out and need extra force to work. The only other issue is with the CD transport. Sometimes mine sticks and needs a tap to get it to move. I've tried to look inside to see if it was because of a slipping belt, or some other parts needing cleaning/new grease etc, but it's really tough to get into the unit to begin with.
