Ahhh….One of my top 5 favorite FY stations from the beginning! Great treat for a very rainy day of stitching joy! I LOVE you two and I’m envious of your close sisterhood!

Super nice flosstube ! No sigh, no complaining, full of positive energy, the best! I’m from the other side of the 🌍 😂no cross stitch linen, no overdyed floss, no charts, every single item I’ve to get from USA online and my shipping cost often cost more than the items that I purchased. Love all your sharing and info, ideas, looking forwards to many of your videos 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Hi Barb -- Thank you for visiting with us and for your kind words! Anna and I are all set to record our 2nd episode this afternoon. Happy Crafting! -- Carolyn
Hello, Never would have thought this was your first flosstube video. Great job. Enjoy not only your work but that. 32 count dilemma you SHARE. Good for you. 32 count dilemma.....I agree...could go either way, but it also depends on the looseness of the weave. The looser the weave the more likely I will use 2 over 2. Anxious to see your “ nip trip” .👍🏼👍🏼😁😁
Hi Jane! We're both really enjoying stitching on 36 count on some of our other projects and wonder if 36 will become our preferred count. Thanks for your kind words and happy crafting! -Anna
I haven’t stitched yet with silks, I do own some now tho😍so I’m catching up…so I am wondering if silks cover more than DMC? Are you solid about using 1 thread over 36 count?
@@gingermccafferty9572 Hi Ginger -- That's an interesting question about coverage and it might depend on the brand of silk. We're using NPI silk right now for our birds and I'd say there is a little less coverage than with a cotton thread like DMC. We both really like the look of 1 thread for 36 count -- it seems (for us) to be the perfect balance of coverage and "air". From listening to other stitches it sounds like this is definitely a personal preference. What do you prefer for 36 count? Stay Curious -- Carolyn
You two!!! Enablers!! Ordered from Country Sampler today! Love everything you showed! My hat is off to both of you in being middle school teachers!! Thank you!! I have 2 sisters and we all stitch and sew! Fun times together! Thank you for taking the time to do videos!! 🌻🌻🌻
@@we.are.curiouscrafters I ordered that bird one that was stitched as a gift for the other sister...ha! Can't remember the name of it right now...it's winging its way to me right now! Lucky that you live so close to each other! One of my sisters lives 45 minutes away from me and the other lives across the country in Florida...which has always been a great excuse for us to visit!! We all stitch, quilt and embroider. 🥰
@@cathylloyd9225 Hi Cathy -- Songbird Sampler! I had so much fun stitching it for Anna and look forward to watching your progress. Anna and I have 3 more sisters -- 1 lives near us, the other lives 500 miles away, and the third lives on the other side of the country. It is always a blast when the 5 of us get together. So fun that the 3 of you all enjoy crafting. Thank you for watching and being part of our community! Happy Crafting --Carolyn
@@cathylloyd9225 So fun! I've always loved my name and rarely meet other Carolyns -- lots of Carolines. Say hi to your sister for me -- one Carolyn to another :-)
You are so poised and polished, are you sure this isn't your first floss tube? You are such lovely ladies and your stitching is amazing.Thank you for inviting us into your home. Can't wait for number 2. God Bless.
Really enjoyed your first Flosstube ladies. Your work is beautiful and the way you interact is just lovely. I just wish my sister was interested in sewing. Looking forward to seeing you both again 😀
You both are naturals! Loved your first video. I too am a Kathy Barrick fan and have only been stitching a year and a half. Looking forward to your next floss tube.
A Great Beginning! So happy I came across your 1st video. You both have an excellent, easy style that is most enjoyable to watch and listen. I'm looking forward to following your future endeavors.
Wow! congratulations on your first floss tube! I thoroughly enjoyed it! You both are great stitchers. I will add you to my "must see" list! Keep up the good work! See you next tune!
Hi Deborah -- Yippee! Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. Anna and I have been chatting about doing this for awhile and finally decided to just go for it. Happy Crafting! -- Carolyn
Greetings from NZ. Fabulous first RUclips ladies. What a fun, energetic and informative session. Particularly like that you incorporate all your crafty endeavours. Really looking forward to seeing what else you have to share with us all.
Glad to find your channel. I agree don’t change plum street.my granddaughter loves those magnet ties, she makes necklaces with them. Wordless is the bomb.
Thank you for watching Corinne! I'm still on the fence about the Plum Street flowers. I'm currently leaning toward reversing the dark & light blues for 2 of the 5. Will save them for the end to see how the rest of the piece turns out. Happy Crafting! -- Carolyn
Ladies! Stopped at your site because of the peppy music! It got me 'going'!. And boy am I glad I did. Now I'm addicted and can't wait for more. I was born in Alameda so now I have my California connection. Look forward to seeing many more 😉
Loved your video! I agree about the green, use it on the big flower but leave it on the already stitched side. Very slight difference. I think I have all the charts you showed today! Thanks for sharing! Happy Stitching!
Very well done first-time video ladies! Your affection for each other and your love of crafting just fly off the screen. As to your question about strands of thread. I really dislike stitching with 2 threads, and always stitch 1 over 2 on 32-count and 36-count. The other thing I have begun doing -- when there is a human figure in the sampler, I will stitch any flesh parts in 1 over 1 (4 little stitches in the place where 1 cross would normally be) which gives a stronger definition of the features. I started doing embroidery when I was about 5 or 6, then crewel, then cross stitch and then counted thread work with specialty stitches, finally doing Crazy Quilting. I'm now 74 and I have been stitching in-hand for at least the past 30 years and would never go back to a hoop.
Hi Janis -- Thank you for your comment and for sharing your stitching journey with us! I didn't start crafting until I was in my mid-twenties. It started with quilting, moved into knitting and weaving, and now has found its way to cross stitch. Truth be told, I've never met a fiber related hand craft I didn't enjoy! I think I too am moving down the path of always preferring to stitch with 1 thread. I also love your idea of 1 over 1 for areas in a piece where you want added definition -- I'm going to try that. Happy Crafting! -- Carolyn
Great job ladies!!!! Loved getting to know you and see all your beautiful needlework! My first grandchild was born last Sept and my Grandma name is Birdie too!!!! I found it on a list of sassy grandma names😂 Your the first one I’ve heard called Birdie too! Needless to say I have been on a bird stitching kick myself so when I saw the title I had to of course watch! You guys are naturals! Looking forward to the next one!
Fun video ladies! Count me as a subscriber. I enjoy fun, upbeat Flosstube videos and appreciate your added touches with what you're into for example. I'm a big wordle fan as well and have a family group that discusses them as well. Looking forward to more! Kathy
Loved your first flosstube! Your energy and enthusiasm are contagious. Both of you must be great in the classroom. My mother was a teacher and taught me to sew. My grandmother taught me to embroider. My fifth grade teacher taught me to knit. And, my friend who is a teacher, taught me to crochet. Clearly, crafting is linked with educators. Thanks for sharing on your flosstube!
I loved your video! I can’t believe it was your first. I subscribed before it was over. Who doesn’t like birds and Wordle. Looking forward to your next video.
Hi Courtnie -- Yippee! Thank you for watching and for your words of encouragement. Anna and I are all set to film Episode 2 this weekend. Happy Crafting! -- Carolyn
Welcome to flosstube! I enjoyed your first video and am looking forward to seeing more. Your stitching is beautiful and I love the idea of sharing the stash. It's wonderful hearing your techniques of stitching. I let my grandson play with those magnetic ties, but with the smaller ties (That i purchased by mistake) the magnetic came off. Like you, i watched him so i caught it right away. Until next time, happy stitching! Lori
Hi Lori -- Thank you for your warm welcome! I see you are also a Flosstuber and look forward to watching your most recent episode this weekend. My local granddaughter is a busy bee, so we are always on high alert when watching her. She is also into my colored stitch markers that I use for knitting and likes to put them in a bowl, and then dump them out. Classic toddler fun :-). Happy Crafting! --Carolyn
What a great first video! I enjoyed your WIPs, your chatty back-and-forth, and your "Three Things." I would love to be able to do something like this with my sister, but we don't live in close proximity any more. I am originally from Virginia, and she still lives there. You ladies remind me of my sister and I! Thank you for the fun video - I look forward to seeing more of you and your work.
It's fun to hear your sister story, Lynn. Sometimes Carolyn and I text progress shots of our stitching with our other sisters as a way to stay connected. Thanks for your kind words and happy crafting! -Anna
I know we worry about spilling coffee or wine on our stitching, but bird poop???? OMG. Too funny. I'm watching your first video and will then watch your most recent one but I had to jump over here when Sarah recommended your channel! 😍
That sweet Sarah. Welcome, Betsy! The bird poop story still makes me laugh! The stain was a deep, bright purple... We had a whole group of women trying to figure out a solution! Happy Crafting to you! -Anna
I have to say that your blouse looks like a Long Dog pattern. I love it & the sweater as well. I'm a sticher but would love to learn how to knit. Enjoyed your video & your stitching.
Hello ladies! I enjoyed watching your first Flosstube video! I too am enjoying patterns with birds. I have both Frederick and Frederica on my wish list! I have kitted”Four and twenty blackbirds” by Rosewood manor & “ Small Things” by The Drawn Thread and have “ The first signs of Spring” by Cottage Garden. The last one is a large Robin sitting on a large basket handle. This will be done in memory of my granddaughter, Robin, who passed away in 2018. * I like “both” stem shades. I would just continue with the greener shade to finish. * re: the piece with the navy & light blue flowers. I agree with you that it probably would look better to reverse the blues and have the lighter blue against the greens. Greetings and enjoy your stitching week ahead! 🇨🇦🥰
Hello Marilyn! Thank you for watching and sharing. It was fun looking up the patterns you mentioned -- it's amazing how many birds are out there! As for your color opinions, I think I'm coming to the same conclusions. Finally, my heart is with you when I think about the passing of your granddaughter. I love your idea of commemorating her with a special piece of handwork. You'll be able to put so much love into that piece. -- Carolyn
Loved your video and all the things you shared. I have 4 sisters and we all sew, quilt, stitch or do some type of crafting. Looking forward to your next video.
Just discovered your channel, and what a delightful channel it is. Hermanas, I love your choice of patterns and I love your work beautiful. I am very new cross stitcher (just project new). I LOVE the Heart in Hand Seasonal etchings chart, it's gorgeous. I am inspired.
I watched your 2nd first, then has to come back for the 1st! You two are wonderful with and to each other! I love how you bounce ideas between the two of you and are also so encouraging. I don't recall if I said it in my comment on your 2nd, but I love the projects that you've chosen to work on, for the geometrics and the coloring. Just lovely!
Welcome back, Wendy! Thanks for your kind words and for subscribing. We're hoping to make our third video this weekend. Talking stitching with my sisters is one of my favorite things to do. Happy crafting! -Anna
Hey Carolyn and Anna! Welcome to FlossTube! I prefer the NPI that is greener. I’m also a knitter so please continue to show your knitting!! Silk is thicker than cotton, so you could probably use one strand of it on 32 count, although most people prefer one strand of silk on 36 count.
Oh my goodness! I love you ladies! What a fun pair you are together and you showed a bunch of stuff I had not seen and now must have. Thanks for the enabling! Lol 😂 Til next time, happy crafting! ❤️
Haha! Isn't it fun to see charts you haven't considered before? I really enjoy that aspect of FlossTube. Thanks for your kind words and happy crafting! -Anna
I loved your first video. I really loved seeing patterns that were new (to me). Most other video show all the same patterns ( new market or popular designers) and it does get a little boring. I am curious too so really appreciate your approach. Hope you will film on a regular basis and look forward to seeing you again. Mary
Very nice video, I to live in California and I didn’t know there was a store to go in San Fran, you’ll have to give me the name. I only knew about Needle in the haystack. What a awesome talent to make the sweaters that is so special for the children. I am looking forward to me and my husband doing some traveling and I’m sure I will be looking up stores lol. We’ll keep up the flosstubes and have fun stitching 🧵
Hi Susan -- The two stories we know about are Needlepoint Inc in SF (not far from the Ferry Building) and Needle in a Haystack in Alameda. Needlepoint Inc is needlepoint focus store, but they are the makers of NPI silk. I think visiting local needlework shops as you travel is an excellent way to get to know a city and/or to have a special destination. Thank you for watching and commenting. Happy Crafting! -- Carolyn
Hi Susan! The store Carolyn and I went to in San Fransisco (Needlepoint Inc) sells silk floss. It doesn't have cross stitch patterns or linen. We like to look for handwork stores when we travel as well! Happy crafting! -Anna
Hi ladies…loved your first video! I’m also a math teacher and really enjoy quilting and cross stitch because of the patterns, geometry etc so I totally understand where your coming from. I had to laugh when you said wordle…. I’m in a competition with one of my math colleagues until the end of the school year, loser has to take the other out to dinner. it’s such a hit in our department and we discuss it every morning over a jigsaw puzzle that’s in our office. Great fun and I look forward to your next flosstube…😄
Hi Megan -- Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. I'm looking forward to watching your most recent Flosstube later tonight with some stitching. Happy Crafting -- Carolyn!
Hello sisters, I enjoyed your video very much. I loved the bird patterns. Your stitching was very nice (both sisters) and also enjoyed the sweaters that you knitted for your granddaughters, absolutely gorgeous. My grandmother did crocheting and knitting and I am so sorry that I did not pay any attention to her when she tried to teach my sister and I. I wish my sister would be interested in cross stitch but she prefers to read. This was a great idea you both had sharing your talents with us. I saw how much you both enjoyed each other. Hope to see you soon.
Hello Dhhaysi! Thanks for your kind words. It's funny, because just a few years ago, Carolyn and I didn't have cross stitching in common! If you feel an itch to knit, I hope you can find a friend or a class to help you learn. I find the click, click of the needles to be meditative. Happy crafting! -Anna
What a great first Flosstube I’m looking forward to future ones. I too am in the SF Bay Area and oh how I wish there was an LNS somewhere on the peninsula. Cheers!
Our needle work shop in Morgan Hill (south east of you?) just recently closed. It's such a bummer because she carried all the lines of over-dyed cotton and silk threads - I really miss seeing them all in person!
@@bebelovely7451 how sad to lose your LNS. It’s so difficult determining thread and fabric colors online. My LNS is 3000 miles away in Myrtle Beach SC 😂 which I get to when visiting my sister. Are you on Instagram?
Hi Linda, I’m in the Bay Area as well. So thankful for the technology that can connect us while we stitch at home. We had an LNS, Dutch Treat Needlecrafts but it closed many years ago now.
@@clarekalantar Nice to meet you. With it being so expensive here in the Bay Area it probably deters people from opening up a cross stitch store. Maybe someday!
Loved your first video and hit that Subscribe button ✅. I am in the central valley area of California. No LNS close by that I know of. Good job girls. I'm binging all you have up.
Loved your podcast! I am a Knitter with a capital K who just re started cross stitching about a year ago when I found flosstube. Now I watch twice as many podcasts, lots of knitting and cross stitching!
Hi Pam -- I'm right there with you! I'm also a Knitter and I started cross stitching the Fall of 2020. I see so many parallels between cross stitching and color work knitting. Happy Crafting! -- Carolyn
Can I join the club for teachers who like birds and all kinds of fiber crafts? Really glad RUclips suggested this podcast, it made knitting a sock and then frogging some cross-stitch (first attempt on linen, not going so great) much less painstaking. Definitely subscribing!
Hi Pitou! Yes, please join the club!!!! I'm glad we were able to keep you company while you did some knitting and frogging. I've been knitting for a long time and just recently came to cross stitching (about 1 1/2 years ago). Stick with the linen -- it was very slow going for me at first, and then all of a sudden it all clicked. Happy Crafting & Stay Curious -- Carolyn
Hi Mary -- Lucky you! And I totally see how is can be a scary place. When I visited myself I gave myself a limit before I went in -- 1 kitted project and 2 patterns. It was really fun looking at everything and have to make choices. Happy Crafting -- Carolyn
Michelle of Farm Girl Dry Goods mentioned your floss tube channel. Great video sisters! I did not know NPI was in San Francisco! Born and raised in the Bay Area. Enjoyed your first episode …. Middle school teachers? Omg….you are saints
So excited to have found your video - I love your personalities and what you're stitching!! The muted colors of the Songbird Sampler are lovely. I totally agree that my coverage depends on the design, but because I prefer 1 strand I gravitate to higher counts and find silk plusher than cotton. I use a magnifying light which gives my bionic vision. ;) Thanks for the tour of NPI - what an eyeful. How lucky to have a sister and neighbor who shares the stash!! Not to mention 5 sisters -- with math skills! :) Best, Gia from NYC
Hi Gia -- Thank you for visiting and for your warm welcome. All cross stitchers have math skills, whether they know it or not. Think how much of our craft is visualizing where one stitch is relative to another -- full on math :-). I think I'm moving in your direction of working with 1 strand on higher count fabrics. My current sweet spot is 36 count. Happy Crafting! --Carolyn
Hi, congratulations on your first video. Love the birds and the sampler. Enjoyed the showing of your cross-stitch and patterns. I learned to cross-stitch in the early 80's and I love to do the stitching. Back in the beginning you basically had Aida in 12 14, and 16 count. Then came 18 count. Our thread was DMC and Anchor. Now you have all these beautiful linens and other fabrics. All the beautiful new threads, how do you choose which threads you really want and like to use. Now I will have to get stronger lens for my glasses at 73 years young I can't see as well even with glasses. All of your work is gorgeous, the silks are beautiful. I have subscribed and look forward to your next Video. God Bless and best of luck from South Carolina.👍😊💕
Hi Carolyn! We usually use the threads that the pattern recommends. There are some beautiful over-dyed cottons that have a slight variation to them that were new to us when we started stitching a year and a half ago. Also, I have a floor lamp that is a magnifier. I have a hard time stitching without it. Thanks for your encouraging words and for subscribing. Happy crafting! -Anna
You did a fabulous job! Love the variety of other crafts along with the cross stitch. Also enjoyed the "Thumbs Up" segment. I'm looking forward to your next video.🎉

I am so pleased that I have found your channel! I stumbled on Episode 65 this afternoon; I then watched episode 49 I think. By then I was hooked on your format and topics, and your interactions so I instructed my phone AI to take me to Episode 1! I realize that my input into changing some of the colors of your blue flowers is pretty much meaningless (in 2024), but I think changing colors would detract from that wonderful basket-which to me is the focal point of the project. Also, on the project just prior you mentioned the two stems being different colors and which did Anna prefer. I notice that the actual flowers are different varieties ...picturing my flowers in my wonderful weed patch---the stems vary in color and shape depending on the type of flower...if I were to consider changing anything, I would change the shape of the leaves on the 2nd flower. I'm loving your channel and am so excited to have discovered you two sisters! It's 0200 and I'm not even close to stopping watching you for the night yet! I've also ordered 3 projects just from watching you tonite! Thanks for providing such an entertaining and informative evening!
Hi Ginger, About silks.....I don’t think I have ever used more than one strand when stitching with silks. I use it on 38 or 40 count and my more special projects. It flows so easily. Wish I could afford to use it on everything 😁😁. I did use it on a 36 count project, but the fabric had a fairly tight weave.
Nice to meet you both! I loved your video and since you are both naturals at presentation, I wondered… and you confirmed you were teachers. Your projects are interesting and I love how you share your stash, because, why not! Wordle! Yes, every morning with my coffee, so I will be thinking of you. Great first flosstube. I find that different makes of fabric can alter your choices of 1or 2 strands even though the count is meant to be the same. I do wordle every day & then text my 14 year old grandson to let him know I have done it, it’s a great nana / grandson exchange 💙💙

Hello,
Never would have thought this was your first flosstube video.

@@we.are.curiouscrafters Yes!! My sister in Florida is named Carolyn! LOL! 💞
@@cathylloyd9225 So fun! I've always loved my name and rarely meet other Carolyns -- lots of Carolines. Say hi to your sister for me -- one Carolyn to another :-)

Look forward to seeing many more 😉
Thanks for your kind words, Linda! Fun to know about our California connection. Happy crafting! -Anna
Loved your video! I agree about the green, use it on the big flower but leave it on the already stitched side. Very slight difference. I think I have all the charts you showed today! Thanks for sharing! Happy Stitching!
Let's keep exchanging chart ideas - it sounds like we have common interests. -Anna
-- Carolyn
Great video! Beautiful projects, and I play Wordle.
Thanks for your kind words, Ofilia (or should I say fellow Wordle-er)! Happy crafting! -Anna

Thanks, Beverly! Love hearing about these connections between education and crafting! I just taught some students to cross stitch. -Anna

I have to say that your blouse looks like a Long Dog pattern. I love it & the sweater as well. I'm a sticher but would love to learn how to knit. Enjoyed your video & your stitching.
Thanks for your kind words, Doris. I just learned about Long Dog Samplers a week or so ago! Happy crafting! -Anna
-- Carolyn

Thank you! We appreciate your welcome and look forward to watching your FlossTube! -Anna
Loved it....music too
Thank you Diane! Happy Crafting -- Carolyn

Cheers!
Thanks, Linda! I have wondered many times why there isn't a cross stitch store on the peninsula. We can hope for one! Happy crafting! -Anna

So glad I found your channel! I live about 2 hours away from Country Sampler….I also quilt so it is a scary place for my credit card🤣
Hi Mary -- Lucky you! And I totally see how is can be a scary place. When I visited myself I gave myself a limit before I went in -- 1 kitted project and 2 patterns. It was really fun looking at everything and have to make choices. Happy Crafting -- Carolyn

-Anna
Enjoyed this immensely. Thanks for showing all of your crafts. Look forward to more 😊
Thanks for your kind words, Teresa! Happy crafting! -Anna
You did a fabulous job! Love the variety of other crafts along with the cross stitch.

I’m excited to follow along like we are long pals and you’re doing a show and tell. Can’t wait for the next upload!
Welcome, Carol, and thanks for your input and kind words! Happy Crafting! -Anna
Hi Ginger,
About silks.....I don’t think I have ever used more than one strand when stitching with silks. I use it on 38 or 40 count and my more special projects. It flows so easily. Wish I could afford to use it on everything 😁😁. I did use it on a 36 count project, but the fabric had a fairly tight weave.
Thanks for sharing your experiences, Ginger. Every time I pick up a skein of NPI silk, I'm amazed at how soft it is! Happy crafting! -Anna
Nice to meet you both! I loved your video and since you are both naturals at presentation, I wondered… and you confirmed you were teachers. Your projects are interesting and I love how you share your stash, because, why not! Wordle! Yes, every morning with my coffee, so I will be thinking of you. I’m in Quebec, Canada and my adult daughter who lives 10 miles away shares my passion so we share our stash too. Looking forward to your next video. Happy stitching!

Great first flosstube. I find that different makes of fabric can alter your choices of 1or 2 strands even though the count is meant to be the same. I do wordle every day & then text my 14 year old grandson to let him know I have done it, it’s a great nana / grandson exchange 💙💙
You are confirming what we have been wondering about - that there are indeed variations within the same count. I can totally relate to how much fun it is to text about Wordle - how wonderful for you and your grandson. Happy crafting! -Anna
