- In The Walking Dead Merle Dixon's story ended with him letting Michonne go and falling when trying to defeat the Governor and although Rick Grimes' group somewhat knew of his sacrifice, he didn't get to live past it. With all the changes that happened behind the scenes, what was really supposed to happen with Merle? With The Walking Dead Daryl Dixon on the way what better time to retell and breakdown the entire story of The Walking Dead from the very start of the show to the very end where Rick Grimes returns and teases the new The Walking Dead spin-offs but in a universe where Merle Dixon survived! How different would Daryl's life be and everyone else's? What if Merle Dixon survived? This is what I think would happen if Merle was still alive in The Walking Dead today.

Thank you, Goerge Drake, the scrap between Merle and The Governor was awesome but I wish He survived like The Governor knocks Him unconcious and takes Him prisoner in one piece, living piece so He can have a bargaining chip and then Merle escapes or is found by Tyreese in the Governor's dungeon
It turns out The Governor does take Merle prisoner like I predicted because I wrote the comment before watching the video
While the characters didn't die, I think a "What if" episode on if Morgan or Dwight had stayed on the main show and how that would have affected the story could be a cool episode.
I think what if Andrea or Sophia survived could be interesting, considering both lived much longer in the comics than the show.
Merle saying "you ought to be more polite to a man with a gun", at the end of season 8 would be a perfect call back to season 1. Just perfection.
I would've loved to seen interactions between Merle and Abraham. That would've been an amazing, entertaining duo. I can only imagine the crazy, hilarious conversations with those two.

Merle's fate is something I'm conflicted about. On the one hand, i would've loved to have see what more then could've done with the character, but on the other hand, I also think he went out on the best note possible for his character. He went out doing the right thing, and the scene of Daryl finding him reanimated as a walker was so heartwrenching and tragic that idk if I'd want it any other way.
That said, if he did survive, I honestly see him being Negan's first victim instead of Abraham. Great video as always, by the way.

I think Negan would've picked Abe. Then kill Merle instead of Glenn. Negan would see that neither of them are afraid of him and with Daryl punching Negan I'm sure Merle would've had some kind of outburst to it, showing Negan that Merle and Daryl care about eachother without knowing they're brothers. So instead of killing Daryl, he'd kill Merle
Also the person he was eating as a walker is the kid that he accidentally shot which ended up with The Governor finding him

Geez, are you a screenwriter? That is awesome! I liked Merle myself in many ways.
Realistically I think Merle probably would have been killed or imprisoned during all out war. I think the only reason Eugene was kept around was because he’s so cowardly and weak that he would deem he wouldn’t have the strength to work as a double agent. Merle definitely could be seen as a double agent especially if he went and intentionally switched sides.
Merle should have definitely survived until season 8 like imagine in season 4 after the Governor attacked the prison, him a Daryl got split up or he walked off and they didn’t meet until season 7 when Negan takes Daryl and it turns out that Merle is in charge of an outpost
The sequence of the scenes used for this ARE SO WELL DONE!!!! All of this sounds plausible and would definitely happen if Merle lived.
However, at the Season 6 Episode 16/Season 7 Episode 1, where the lineup took place, I believe Merle would taunt Negan to the effect of, "YOU DON'T INTIMIDATE NOBODY!!! THIS IS THE LEADER OF THE SAVIORS? HELL, I'LL TAKE THAT BASEBALL BAT AND STICK IT WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE!!!! BUT JUDGING BY HOW SUSPECT YOU LOOK IN THAT LEATHER JACKET AND SCARF, YOU'D PROBABLY LIKE IT!!!!!"
Daryl and Rick whisper for Merle to please shut up cause he's gonna get them all killed.
At which point Negan walks up to him, looks down, and spits on him. Then he tells Negan he doesn't have the balls to Lucille him whereby Negan responds, "You're right...." and immediately Lucille's Abraham.
This is just my stupid dream. But id love to see merle with that assassin's hand blade thing Rick got. Wouldve heen so cool.
This is great, love the way you detail how Merle would interact, fight, help and feel into the later seasons. Merle has always been my favourite character since his introduction on s1e2 “guts”, he’s one of those original characters that should have survived all the way through! There’s so many levels with Merle he’s a character that can do many different scenarios
One thing i think you missed talking about was Gabriel and Meryl should having conversation about god and the bible, a call back to Hershel, maybe revealing that Meryl had pretty much read the whole Bible to memory, this would reflect Gabriel changes throught the series as he reflects on old testament and new testament passages in the walking dead.
Could you start doing comic what if’s? I’d love to see one where Judith doesn’t die and lives long like the show.
Tbh I think if Merle was there he would have told Rick to get more info before hitting the outpost so that arc mite have went different
Loved Merle! Watched a lot of your videos and I love them all! Been waiting for this one for a while!
i just donť think merle would ever want to make himself associated with other side again as Claimers or Negan... he just showed way too much that he clearly does anything best for his brother and his ineterests in just few episodes. He never chose to be with Governor, he just had nothing to choose. He would be as best as he can be, for sake he litteraly opens up on the things he done and how he widely regrets them, so from mine POV he would always stay loyal to better side no matter the cost and wouldn´t fall for those traps Negan or anyone else mentioned could throw at him... just like with the Governor.
And the commonwealth story line was just somewhat weird for me, he wouldn´t just try to cause some random shit, he wasn´t like a shane.. this guy knows the hell´s he talking about.
and also the main part being.. that with merle around, Daryl would have much less spotlight within the show and he would be mostly relying on Merle´s best instincts for the groups major decisions, Merle would just not be erratic and his arc wouldn´t have those flip-flops..

A VERY interesting take on the character! I like it.
Merles story always felt a little incomplete. I could see him living up until at least the claimers. In fact the claimers killing Merle could be the final deciding factor in Daryl's indecision about staying with Ricks group permanently
Can we get a what if for Tyreese? I think his presence would influence a few key things-- Backing up Carls bid for peace in the savior war, him potentially being with Carl when he leaves to save Siddiq, having Carls back and thus saving his life as well, with him alive Sasha wouldnt be so keen to become a blood knight so she may live quite a bit longer too

Merle woulda been an awesome character to have for the future seasons. I like how you say merle and abraham are the ones standing up to negan but merle stands down because he doesn’t want anything happening to daryl makes it so sad for how much he wouldn’t want to see his brother die. He was originally supposed to survive S3, but his death came at the last minute, it would've been cool to see him in S4, i see him surviving the fall of the prison, he either dies at terminus or the line-up, the line-up is what i see his final destination being in case he makes it that long.
Him. TDOG and Andrea were originally supposed to have survived past season 3. TDOG and merle were last minute decisions. Andrea idk. She said in an interview tho that she was originally supposed to have survived till season 7 cuz that's when her contract ended.
@@darinwatts8116 i've seen a interview from Andrea's actor a few years ago, she said it was a surprise even for her and that andrea's death was used for shock value, Tdog apparently got replaced with Carol since she was supposed to die, him coming late to set also contributed even tho the actor denied it in a instagram live i saw, so yeah, too many deaths happened in S3 compared to the later ones, should've saved at least one of the prisoners for a few more seasons, and keep more og's alive longer.
@@DaLegend-nz6li yea. I heard about it being because TDOG was late. I think he was originally supposed to have been one of the main protagonists along with Rick and daryl. Rick. Daryl. And T-DOG were supposed to have been a trio. T-DOG in the later seasons would have been interesting.

Merle getting Dwight’s comic storyline is awesome. Then having him imprisoned instead of killing him gives such an opportunity for stories in the future

I’d say keeping Daryl and Merle together in every section of the show would really just prevent either of them from developing as much. And it’s not like they were glued together when they were in the Atlanta group anyway.

I believe Merle would’ve been more close with Gabriel due to their faith, as shown in an episode in season 3, Merle actually reads the Bible and remembers verses by heart. It would’ve been an interesting pair for sure

Dude I like your other videos but this series “what if ___ survived?” end up being really boring cuz the way u tell it the majority of the storyline stays the same as in the show you just swap one character for another. Only a few things are swapped here and there but as a listener it all just sounds mostly the same.
On another note, I’ll give you credit for the video edit tho. Taking shots of the character from other parts of the show(or in the case of Glenn taking clips of him from an entirely different show) and inserting them in between scenes of the Walking Dead. For example a really cool one was in the Glenn episode when u took the original scene of Rick chasing down Negan in the car and swapped Glenn into it but used car chase scenes of him from the Netflix series Beef. They were timed very well and even pieces of dialogue were snatched from other places to match perfectly.
