  • Transnational abstract painter Frank Bowling began his career in London and visited his birth country Guyana before arriving in New York in 1966. The decade he spent there was transformative for his practice and was the birthplace of major bodies of work, including his oceanic Map Paintings. Let’s travel back in time to an afternoon in 1969, where we join the artist in his studio for a casual chat about his practice and a spray-paint stencil demonstration.

This video🎉 this video was the firsT thing I saw at the Moma and it was so beautiful seeing the artist work from nearly 50 years ago, the video was audibly from back then, the language, clothing, and when he said, “ the meaning, and all that, I mean, don’t know what it means. I mean, I just like it. It looks all right to the eye.” It blew my mind for some reason. I didn’t understand the paintings before seeing this video but afterwards I realized he did it because he wanted to and he liked doing it. It’s definitely made me want to do what I want with photography, he’s pushed me without even knowing it. I wish I could meet this man’s in person because if I could I would give this man such a huge bear hug! I will be coming back to the MOMA sometime soon, it was such a blast

Nice! The sense of color, texture and structure is intriguingly used by Mr. Bowling and it makes my mind think of the elements of earth, air, water, & fire in one sitting or viewing that our Heavenly Father has created for us to enjoy. Mr Bowling's art work is interesting to me and makes me calm. I appreciate his work very much. Well done sir.🌺🍁🌺
