Thanks for taking one for the team. I am on the look for a coated watch (be it steel or titanium) and you are right that these independant tests are hard to find.
Tsp Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it! The Promaster Tough is a great watch, I highly recommend it and am wearing right now! Hope you’ll check out my review on it!
Thanks for the clear-cut test. Let me suggest that you take less time introducing the actual test and get to it more quickly. But I'm very glad you shared this with us all.
I’m a day late and a dollar short but I have to disagree. The intro is when I learned the most. I like that you set it up well. The scratch test could be done in a 10 second short but what fun would that be. Keep on educating us!! 👌🏽
SaleenDriver Thank you for tuning in! I did one of these a few months back but just with the Promaster Tough, I talk more about the “super titanium” in that video. Comparing two different watches is much better as we can see which one comes out on top.
May I say that in our everyday life we are not gonna use picks to scratch the watch but maybe a table/wood, worktop or tile. I think the promaster tough was pretty awesome and beared up really well. I'd say for everyday wear the tough would beat he normal quite easily for resistance to scratches.I think that's the clarity one needs. No watch is scratch proof like you say but citizen have raised the bar on resistance to scratches IMO.
One thing I noticed a long time ago about mohs hardness of different materials: was the shocking hardness of Platinum, being identical to hardness of Iron.
Awesome idea for a video and test. Although the whole time I'm thinking "Nooooo! Don't do it!" One thing I'm thinking about is how Citizen coating compares to what Traska is using.
Relative Time Thanks so much for watching and commenting, means a lot! Don’t worry I have extra links! 😊 I’ll have to check out Traska’s coating, is it their own proprietary thing like Citizen?
TheOne ThatGotAway Thanks for watching and commenting! Glad you enjoyed the video. I get what you’re saying about scratches adding character! Good to know I just bought a BNO211-50E. The one thing I hate about the watch is the date window is so small and with correspondingly small numbers, I can not read them without a flashlight and hand lens. Citizen would have been better off with no date window if it is just going to annoy the owners of their products. All the best.
labrat7357 Thanks for watching and commenting! Yes, it seems like a small date window is a common problem on most Citizen watches. I hope you’ll subscribe! Once we reach 1000 subscribers we’ll be doing another watch giveaway! You won’t want to miss it!
Raise to speak (near mouth of course) to activate siri is great without touching anything or saying hey siri. It works almost always in series 6 even in noisy environment compared to 70% or less in series 5 and 4. Best to speak near mouth after 1 second after display turns on or 1 sec after once raised near mouth. Also most don't use send as audio or send as text....also use raise to speak to activate siri without saying hey siri. Plus all other functions using raise to speak like playing music, timer like when cooking, setting reminders immediately, making note or list or any idea in your mind to take note of or tru voice memos, artists can easily record any sound idea they have at any moment tru voice recording, asking for translation like when travelling in other countries and it will say it in their language, and all the meanings in dictionary, also any question you have tru internet at any moment even if you're in bed with eyes close or children with questions, also ''call my wife'' like ruclips.net/video/zvX8pXCZhxI/видео.html or ''message Eduard'', even voice message tru send as audio by settings in iPhone for apple watch, ask to calculate something, and ping my iPhone...whatever you want even turning on smart appliances or lights or other appliances connected to smart outlets like say ''turn on tv'' without saing hey siri or hey bla bla bla, ''find my remote'' if it has airtag, ''open the garage'', ''turn on the fan'', you can even set cameras at gate and doors and see tru your watch, ...or ping your cat using Tile or find my cat etc when airtags is released or missing child or finding people when in open areas like malls and parks. All the timezones and currencies conversion is always on your wrist. The whole dictionary and pronounciations. Actually many apple watch users dom't know how to maximise the use of apple watch. The watch is no longer for watching just the time and date, it watches your health and fitness. You can even listen to audiobooks or podcasts while exercising esp outdoors with airpods etc. 70million songs if connected to internet. Or listen to downloaded songs tru airpods or play on other device like speakers and control it easily. There are more incoming apps and accessories that will bring value to daily life of many people. Fall detection is very important for old people esp when alone with fall as 2nd cause of death in accidental deaths so they can easily contact for emergency or SOS can be made even if they became unconscious, or can't move after accidents and still can contact like hey siri call emergency or call someone you know. No missed call and urgent messages will ever be missed. Charging is like ruclips.net/video/Q5uHMZB5ne4/видео.html beside pillow or bed overnight with duo magsafe.
Interesting. And one thing I have realised is that the biggest risk for scratching the bracelet is when adjusting the length and removing it from the watch. The tools are very effective scratchers! I have learned to do it from the inner side. Another thing I find strange is how the clasp can become scratched just by having the watch laying on a table. Does wood contain metal particles?
Thanks for watching! I'm not sure exactly why wood can sometimes scratch watches... I have heart that sometimes there can be tiny abrasive particles like dust even that can scratch metal.
Thanks for watching! I don't feel bad about scratching them because the Promaster Tough is my own watch and I still have extra links and for the Promaster GMT I bought an extra link from Citizen because I do plan to sell that watch soon!
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it. That would be a good one to do, perhaps in the future I'll be able to. I hope you'll subscribe if you're not already!
Good video and good test. But Super Titanium isn't supposed to mean that the material of the watch is titanium with a coating and not stainless steel with a coating?
tammy stafford The Promaster Tough is a Stainless Steel Watch which is coated in Citizen’s Super Titanium. If you click on this watch from Citizen’s website you’ll find this information. Also check out my first scratch test video where I talk more about Citizen’s coatings. I admit it can get a little confusing.

Love this video mate, thanks for introducing me to Moh's Hardness Tables. Subbed. Keep it up. Love that you talk about Casio's, and Citizen's. And of course the Alpina watches, which I keep on hearing are underrated. Good day.
Yes, I have a 25yo citizen titanium (non super titanium) skyhawk. The only down side is the cost of servicing. £200 for a replacement capacitor! Also, at the time, it wasn't available with sapphire glass. I was also quoted £300 for a replacement bracelet.

DOESN'T SEEM WORTH IT MUCH to pay extra for the coating. Easier to purchase a new stainless steel bracelet if it majorly gets scuffed up. Thanks for the video.
Levi Stevenson Good to hear from you my friend! Glad you’re still liking your GMT! I’m still not keeping mine, I ordered an extra link and will be putting it up for sale soon! It’s a good watch but not my style! Hope you’re doing well!
I assume you have a small wrist hence spare links? I have an 8.5-inch wrist so I can never do this without ordering spares but at least I never have sizing issues as all bracelets fit me. Cheers...
Lol. Scotch brite pad, steel wool, and Cape Cod cloth with make satin or polished steel look brand new again. Anyone who is really concerned about watch scratches should have these available. That was brilliantly demonstrated :)) Not as painful as I thought as they're your watches... wonder how ROLEX steel goes, guess No.2 would probably be enough on their soft steel?? Big scratch on the thumbs from me my friend... more subs with this kind of content for sure!
Thank you for watching and for the kind words! I don't know if I'll ever be able to test any "high end" watches like this, although I'd love to see the results!
@@TheTownWatch I can tell you, that second tool would cut the bracelet off LML :-P ROLEX steel is way too soft, but their reason is for polishing, but if Grand SEIKO can polish steel then I don't know why the fuss... that titanium finish is good, wonder if that's the same on my CASIO Oceanus S100 Titanium? Great vid, really good to watch especially with the side by side videos, that's the killer attraction right there :)))
WatchUP69 Mr Rangeman Thanks again! I have no experience with Rolex or other luxury brands so I will take your word for it. There is something to say for a good coating on a watch to protect from scratches.
Graham Wilson Who knows, maybe it will be included in the next giveaway? Make sure you’re subscribed to find out... we’re not that far away from the 1000 subscriber giveaway!
The super titanium treated metal scratched far less at 7 than the untreated did. Almost half the amount of depth in the scratch at 7. It definitely does work. This is also the lowest grade of surface treatment offered by Citizen!
superfast30 Some of this can get a little confusing. Is Duratect the same as “Super Titanium”? Can you point me to a website where the differences between these coatings is explained?
@J. City Reviews Super Titanium is the trademarked name used by Citizen which encompasses all of their coating technologies. You can find info on Citizen Japan's website. Duratect MRK and Duratect Alpha is used on their higher end models such as the Citizen one, Caliber 0100 and the 1000m Saturation diver for example. If you attempted the same test on a titanium watch treated with duratect alpha, it would begin to show signs of scratching when you got up to the #8 scratch tool.
superfast30 Thanks for the info! I’ll have to check it out on their Japanese website! I doubt I’ll ever be able to do a scratch comparison on their high end watches unfortunately!
