    Trends aren’t bad in particular. What’s bad is feeling compelled to buy into every trend you see. If you like the trend go for it, but it’s a real problem that you should check yourself on if you’re feeling obligated to participate in every new trend.

    It was definitely a wild sight seeing the droves of people slowly get more and more interested in fashion and shoes during the pandemic. I've been into fashion for as long as I can remember, as I used to dress so bad I would look at outfit inspo pics for hours and watch YT vids on how to find a basic style in 2017. One of the main reasons that TikTok became the hub for fashion and trends is because people had way more time on their hands, but the most important part that many people don't really think about is how TikTok made fashion a lot more consumable and easy to process. Before, the only fashion content you could find were 15-min videos discussing a specific niece style or a super in depth tutorial on how to get into a certain style. TikTok gave the average person scrolling an easy way to get into the world of fashion, and many who found their love for it on TikTok, continue to find their inspiration on TikTok. I won't lie about not hating on TikTok and the fashion its popularized, overall it's a good thing. The more people into fashion, the better. But I think way too many people forget how long it takes to develop a personal style, it includes buying hundreds of articles of clothing, trying things that you think will work or look good on you. You do this over and over for years until you can finally start settling into a lane of fashion that you can call your own. Way too many people focus on the trends and if they're "dead" or not, that they can forget to take the time and see if they like the trend. Trend or not, if you like to wear something, wear it. And lots of people need to think of that over worrying about wearing something that's considered "dead" by the wider TikTok fashion community.
    Always love seeing your thoughts on fashion, they always make me think deeper into the hobby. Much love

    it sucks because these trends were once really based on real life culture and now things like tik tok take commodifying culture to an extreme. And in the end trends don't last as long as they did and they seem vacant and void of real cultural experience.

  • @oscarpineda2812
    @oscarpineda2812 Год назад +2

    Its ok to try to follow up with trends.
    Eventually you will get tired of it, and in te path you will find your own style, among all the ones you tried, then it'll become your uniform for as long as youre ok with it, and you can always catch up with trends in the future, at the end of the day, we dress up for ourselves.

    So personally I don't think trends are bad but what can be bad about them is a constant sense of consuming them. This can be from tik tok or Instagram, or RUclips. But what I would give my personal advice is buying a trend isn't a bad thing but you should find other inspiration from other sources. Sometimes I find it from random people on the street, Instagram, RUclips, or celbs or old styles from either 1990s, 1980s or 1970s, or early 2000s and or finding pieces that I find cool. Hype or not trendy or not, most my personal items have been thrifted as you most of the item find a one of one piece and tend to either be trendy or just random.

    4:26 Timelessness.
    I think you fell for it.
    Would you not agree that "timeless", "durable", and the likes are all very desirable attributes? So desirable, in fact, that not only any private person would like to own clothes who pass for it - but even so much that products are marketed with these terms to enhance their desirability.
    And at this point, where we have moved from "this item is timeless, therefore it's valuable" towards an association between the terms that has allowed marketers and influencers to turn the tables on us and exploit "this item needs more value, so we'll label it "timeless" ", I think you've only set up many fashion enthusiasts to step into the same trap.
    --- I would also want to clarify that true "timelessness" DOES exist. Same as true "elevated basics" do, and so on and so forth and they've all been the big thing at one point - and never only to spite trend culture/fast fashion/etc., but also to profit from the reputation that these concepts have built up. What are your thoughs on this view?

    • @WhatsTheHype.Landon
      @WhatsTheHype.Landon  Год назад +1

      Sorry for the late response, but you’re right! I definitely could’ve gone into this a bit more and maybe even will for a future video. I’ve recently seen more products marketed as timeless or trend proof. When I see something marketed this way, I usually like to look into the history to see if it’s true, but clearly not everyone will care to do the same.
