I hear the Powerwall 3 is supposed to be easier for installers. Is that your experience? Also, I am guessing it uses LiFePO4 batteries in the Powerwall 3?
I did install Powerwall+ only before so have limited experience with non 3 version, PW3 is easier because of pre-made knockouts, communication via cat6, single unit (instead of 2 with PW+) and yes it's LFP chemistry
@@SolarEngineering thanks for confirming, keep up the great work! I do installs in SE USA (looking to incorporate more Tesla systems) but enjoy watching your installs in Cali.
I have 200A service with one 200A main panel that feeds a 100A sub-panel and a 50A sub-panel. Can Gateway 3 handle input from two Powerwall 3s and then have a single breaker to drive the main panel? I am looking at moving my 7kW Kyocera solar string to the inverter built into one of the two Powerwalls.
How difficult is it to pair two power wall 3s inverters? I need my solar company to come back and finish my second powerwall 3. They were hoping the expansion version would be available soon so they could save money on their installation. I already paid in full..... I like the idea of inverter redundancy even if its half the panels (installed is 29 405 watt panels, intent would be 15 on one and 14 on the other.)
To install another powerwall, they will need to run communication cable between powerwalls, AC 6AWG from powerwall to AC disconnect and then to electrical panel 60A breaker.
Great job as well, I need to win the lottery and fly you down here to do my install. ;) Your price per powerwall? I found $8500 per on the internet. If I bought 2 Tesla Powerwall 3's for 17k how much to install them on a square d 200 amp service panel?
Install in my area with Tesla Backup switch and no re-wiring n the main panel will be ~$2.5-3k. Another ~$1400 will be permit documents/fees, utility provider fee.
bro just a quick question, with powerwall 3 units installed on one gateway would it be a 3-phase system or would it be some how single phase rather? why i asked was that i read a forum where they said with Tesla Gateway you can tire in up to 6 powerwals into single phase ac....
@@SolarEngineering sorry am a bit unclear, so the 3 units you installed how did the 3 of the ac come straight to the gateway and from the gateway to the house is just 2 phase?
I like IronRidge flashing more than Unirac. Unirac is just flat metal, when IR has some ledge around mount, which is helping to divert water. Unirac rails is more convenient because it's flat on 2 sides, vs IR has non square profile. But both of them are good brands. I didn't use snapnrack.
My house has 400A and Tesla people said only 200A gateways are available and designed 2 separate backup systems for the 2 power wall batteries that I am getting. Are 400A gateways available to the public? Can you share part number? Thanks!
to AC couple system Tesla Gateway must be installed, probably your installer quoted you for Backup Switch installation, which is faster and less labor.
Great videos! I have two separate solar systems that are AC coupled and combined into one breaker in the main panel. Sounds like I would need a Gateway to install a Powerwall. What would be a rough estimate of cost to install one Powerwall 3 and the Gateway (San Jose)? Thank you.
Unfortunately there is an extreme Tesla price premium for their Powerwall. Thankfully there are many other battery options for a fraction of the price.
In an apples-to-apples comparison, Tesla has everyone else beat hands down. If you're looking for less storage to begin with or lower output you can put together systems from other manufacturers.
Keep up the awesome work brother.

Lucky. Here in California we require 3 feet between batteries.
@@TheJustReyes depends on AHJ, some allowing less than 3'
And you’re using the backup gateway 2 included 100A CT to monitor the non backed up 200A main breaker?
I didn't find info about installation of CT sensors to 2nd 200A breaker, if you could help me to locate will appreciate this.
You can install up to 20 kW of solar with 1 Powerwall 3, correct? Additional PW3's are just whole longer backup times (more energy stored)?
correct, also maximum continuous charge power: 5 kW AC for one powerwall

Hey Buddy, how did you get away with less than 3ft spacing for the Batteries in CA? What AHJ was this?
ul 9540A certification allows less than 3'.
However, some cities still require a 3' distance
Nice install! Regional code allows you to install the powerwall 3 ESS within 3 ft of windows?
In my area it's ok with garage window. Should be 3' away from any window to the house.

Gateway will have 200A breaker and then you'll need to run cable to 200A subpanel (existing or new). Powerwalls can land into subpanel or gateway.
@@SolarEngineering Thank you for the information. It sounds like this install will be a bit more complicated than I had hoped!

Hey who’s your material supplier, also electrician looking to order for personal install
BayWa R.E. I think they are require installer account.
Check Greentech CED also
I’m guessing to get the power wall 3s you have to be certified installers for tesla to purchase it or they sell it with that supplier?
where are y'all located?
Bay Area, CA
My installer says the PW3 isn't compatible with my Enphase IQ8A micro-inverters. That makes no sense?

11kw output
18kw solar input

I wonder what makes people in California want to install batteries in the garage... such a waste of space :)
Enclosed space perhaps, many people don't want others to know they have backup power these days (so as to not become potential targets).
