"We must live lives worthy of their sacrifice." 2:26:19 I absolutely love that take-away. I often lose focus of that mentality. That mantra will help me stay on the path.
absolutely, we are living on the sacrifices of our ancestors. it's humbling, and we need to act out humility and make the best out of what the've done for us.
I'll be ripping this to CD for my wife's Great Granddad. 94 year old WWII vet - 104th Infantry Division went through France, Belgium and Germany. Bronze Star (not bad for an army cook!). Such an unassuming man but 70 years later you can tell how the war still reverberates in him. Part of the Greatest generation - just got it done.
Somehow any problem I might have seem ridiculous the more I listen these stories and Jocko's take on the subject. Such an easy but simple strategy to change lives...
I believe iTunes takes first priority, with Slack (? never used it before), Google Play, and the other audio-only versions coming first. Due to video editing, mastering, processing, and the longer upload & post-upload processing times, RUclips comes last...even if they are all ready for upload at the same moment.
Stumbled across your Podcast because I am reading this very book, and wanted more information on Robert Leckie. I did watch the series: "The Pacific," incredible! Thank you for your insight and wisdom on this topic.
This was another rough one at times. If mere excerpts from an account of an experience can make you layers of uneasy, they really persevered through some shit. Bless the machine gunners, indeed, and all the rest. Tempo change, you guys are my work shift buddies, my gym buddies, my oh crap that's a lot of dishes I guess Ill clean because no one else will buddies and I really appreciate it. Favorite podcast by far.
Jocko. Enjoy your podcasts. This one I especially enjoyed. I watched the series "Pacific" and I have to say, listening to you read from the book was every bit as enjoyable. It was as if I was there with him while you read his accounts.
Another great podcast! My opinion on this subject will differ from many others but, I agree with Echo on the option to not bombard the troopers with content. I remember when you first started and you were deciding whether or not to release an episode every week or every two weeks. I was really routing for the latter. The quality has been great on every ep but more time to work with each ep will ensure quality even after you guys have done this for a few years. I've listened to everything you've released and struggle to keep up sometimes! Again, my opinion... I don't need to get ripped apart if someone else has a different opinion. Out!
Mr. Charles, could you please make a Jocko McNugget on Sacrifice from about 2:24:02 until "Sacrifice is eternal"? Very moving end to the book and I feel it's very applicable to those in the service sectors (Military, Police, Fire). Thanks.
I listened to the book on audible with the guy playing Leckie in the pacific. Great to hear Jocko reading it. Gives different perspective for me. He should read books on audible.
I saw a sticker on a truck you remind me of while I'm listening to this great Jocko podcast with Echo • "God bless our troops. Especially the snipers." I've got to say "Amen" to that as well.
I'll be honest, when I read Helmet For My Pillow (after having watched The Pacific), I felt like it was too "poetic" for the subject matter, like the "flowery" speech lessoned the brutality of the story. Hearing the same words in Jocko's voice with his intensity, I no longer feel that way.
Or maybe Echo was just in a hurry. Maybe we'll never know. That's the nature of clandestine covert black bags wet works OPSEC ops such as uploading a video to the YouToobs.
These earlier shows, like the first ~100 episodes, are some of my favorites as there's no doubting that some of the best books he's ever done were in this period. Yet they can't even get 100 comments and 100k views... Is there really THAT many people that watch in the first couple hours of an uploud just to put those stupid jocko joke things in for likes? "Jocko wasn't born, he was tactically deployed" and about a dozen variations. Funny the first time you hear them, annoying every other time. Do these people even watch the vids? Apparently not given the views on the old episodes. This isn't content that's contemporary/topical to the date it was uploaded. Still just as great now as it was 6-7 years ago... Smh
I hope to one day find a woman who loves me as much as Jocko loves machine gunners.
May we all one day be so lucky
That would be TACTICALLY ideal

Jocko you changed my life

These podcasts are available hours and sometimes even a day earlier on the Jocko Podcast website. I listened first thing this morning.

2021 and still going back through all the videos!!!!
Jokco: "All my prompts lead to closure, that's my goal,"
Echo: "yeah, but...."
Classic
Thanks Jocko. This is the book that forms a picture of who my Grandfather was at a young age. Marine Boot camp.
I'd love to see you cover with the old breed on Peleliu and Okinawa by Eugene Sledge. Powerful
i love that! 1:05:00 "Retreat into nothingness". Some people call that a "dumb focus". Its good for marathons etc
These men say they aren't heros but the ones who didn't come home are, wrong, they ALL are Heros!!

Thank guys 😊
another kick ass podcast.
Hope you tackle more books about the Pacific theater during World war II particularly the war in the Philippines (Bataan, Battle in Manila etc.).

I love Jocko ..even though he's not a Christian...he is someone I admire
Veronica Funky
Are you sure ?
Why would he need to be a Christian for you to admire him?

According to the protocols of Zion certain things people and aspirations for space in the universe should be making themselves known right about now.
Thanks Jocko

He really should. He's a great reader of phenomenal stories.

Based on the title I'll say that Jocko uploaded this video by himself.
I see your point there!
That's affirmative
haha! "Podcast 71 video" not following the format of the echo's title at all. very funny thing to notice

I like that Mexican billy baker in your photo
The passwords were difficult because they were selected from words the Japanese could not pronounce.
Japanese could not pronounce an "R". So LIBERTY one of them.
Didnt know EchoCharles is Canadian. Whats up from the mountains in AB
1:20:30 absolutely hilarious. You know officer Ivy league was probably terrified, all the more humorous.
dope!
What's with the dig on the Irish @ 1:20:45 - No worries bro - we're no snowflakes!
