Ironically enough, Alan Rickman came from a very working-class background in London. I think he was one of that generation of actors of humble origins who not only got (and of course seized) the opportunity to break into the biz, but also developed (intentionally or otherwise) some kind of aristocratic screen persona. See also Roger Moore, Peter O'Toole ... even Michael Caine played a posho in his breakthrough role in Zulu - hard as that is to believe now! 🙂
