@@ahmed78yearsago70 agreed, barefoot gen is more of a traumatizing anime while the grave of the fireflies is more of an emotional and sad anime. I didn't cry while watching barefoot gen but when I watched the grave of the fireflies, I was crying without even realising cus I also got an older brother who looks pretty similar to Seita... tho he is not as nice as him💀

Context: A war happened in a town. They drop bombs and it killed his mother. He leave the place with her sister to find shelter. He goes to place and overheard that a shipped sunk and his dad was on a boot so he realized that his dad dies. The brother and the sister are poor and can barely afford food. Due to the lack of food the sisters dies and not the brother has to live alone. The brother later on die due to starving.

I just realized the saddest thing about this movie.
In the beginning of this movie we see seita die from starving, even tho we see someone leave food to him. It is not because he is too weak to eat. He just wanted to die and suffer no more. Maybe he could see setsuko again...

This movie is the single most depressing and sad thing I’ve ever seen. I cried watching it for the first (and only) time, and did my best to forget it. It’s been years since I’ve first seen it and I have an 8 month old daughter now. Immediately as this clip started, tears started pouring out, without me even being able to understand how and why. The sadness portrayed in this movie gains an even bigger dimension when you have children. If for a single moment you imagine it’s your child going through this, you’ll be filled with a terrible sorrow. Poor babies, so innocent and vulnerable to the horrors of mankind.

It wasn’t, it took Russia beginning an invasion on the north, the country running out of supplies and Chinese resistance for them to finally surrender, it basically took a while for Japan to face reality

You never even tried to learn history and you raise your head as a supposed historian, 3 out of 6 of the war committee were trying to negotiate a full surrender by day 9, while the other 3 wanted to negotiate the terms of surrender. The bombs were unnecessary.
