Thanks for making the video. I grew up in Fair Oaks and went there many times. In high school in the 1970s, we'd buy beer at the liquor store around the corner at Greenback and Fair Oaks Blvd before going to the drive-in. I also took my wife of 40 years on our first date to the Sunrise Drive-In to see "Rock and Roll High School". Forgettable movie, but I fell madly in love with her. and married her 5 years later
Thanks BJ for inviting me to the Sunrise Drive Inn to see your fond memories with Cindy and the kids I can almost feel like I was there with you guys the pizza 🍕 was delicious and the soda and pop corn man was out of this world I remember when I use to go there I saw many times movies and enjoyed seeing some of my friends back then you gave me a glimpse of a time when I use to live not far from there many wonderful memories that you gave me I remember the movie the hell house and a few other ones hey I liked your painting inside the snack bar I can smell the hot buttered popcorn and pizzas never forget that well your “ Night at the Sunrise Drive Inn” by the way what happened to the land after it was torn down ?
WOW, I just found this video of the Sunrise Drive-in It was done so well and brought back many memories. It is sad it's long gone, but you captured that moment in time. One of my regrets is that I didn't go more often. My kids did get to experience from time to time. I MISS THOSE DAYS. Now I do put up a outside screen and watch movies at night. My screen faces the same direction as the Sunrise screen. I hope I get to share it with my grandkids someday. Thank you for this video. If anyone still has speakers from the drive-in, let me know. I would love one
I loved this went there alot with my husband in 69 then we took our kids. And graffiti was so cool. And my daughter and nephew and son to see two scary shows melting man and cat people scared them. Lol i laughted at them So much fun. Then when they were real young the play things playing on them. Sat outside with chairs, blankets and in truck in 65 chevy. Thats so so much for this. My husband was a carpenter doing truss work and built the sac 6 drive in, one on greenback walk in by 80 and the one by cal expo the big round dome.
Amazing! My son sent this to me to watch… what a trip! My son worked @ the Sunrise drive in for about 3 years when he was a teenager. He got all of his friends jobs there to 😊 He has great memories of the people and the place ❤️
Great video brings back many happy memories of days gone by. So many folks were taken there by their parents and then subsequently went as young adults, a true generational experience. Old and gray now with my best years long behind, memories can be good company when your friends have passed away….
I got a little teary eyed there at the end, seeing the empty lot over grown with grass, speaker poles and no screen. I spent many many weekends in the early 80's there. It was our go to spot in High School. Thanks for bringing it back to life in video!
We hated it being tore down..thank u for the memories. Please go to sac 6 sometime with your grandkids if young. We will hate it closing. My grandson is 21 now took him to see up there we watched twice. He loved grandma and him going.
I remember going there as a kid with my dad and mom my mom use to tell me that my uncle mike who is at the cemetery right next door is setting there with us watching the movies. I started going there in 1969 right after my uncle passed
I morn the loss of the Sunrise drive-in theater as well.It had this family feel to it unlike any other theater i had ever been to.My father would take my brother and i to the theater every Saturday night.I watched hundreds of movies there over the years but for some reason one stood out over all of them and that movie was "Soylent green".I watch it every Saturday night along with this video you have made about the Sunrise drive-in theater just to bring back that memory i have of my Late father and brother sitting in the car just enjoying each others company and the nice warm evening night.Watching the colored water fountains in front and waiting for the movie to start.Times were so different back then, mid sixties through the seventies and that voice from Gabe coming into the car selling his refreshment stand goodies. His voice sends me back in time when things were so good and i must admit it hurts a little but i love to relive it each weekend.Thank you for making this video and it means a lot to me and others who were part of the Sunrise drive-in theater experience.
I'm so glad that you got to see it and that you enjoyed it. I have no contact info for June and Fred's family so please let other's of your family know. Thanks so much for your comment. BJ
Thank you so much for creating this tribute and posting it. I was born and still live in Sacramento. Many times I went to the Sunrise Drive In when I was a teen. Lots of great memories of a way of life that seems so far away now.
Wow, this definitely choked my up a bit. Gabe and June are my Grandma & Grandpa.☀️❤️. This is so special to watch. My very first job was at this Drive- in. You even caught me in action their towards the end filling up sodas.🤣 Still have my first pay stub from The Sunrise Drive-in I have one of the painting on my wall that I deeply cherish. Every time I look at it I can hear my Grandpa's announcements....we have Ice cold dill pickles 😂. I just wish I would have kept one of those old speakers.😭. I had so much fun growing up here. So many stories from my Mom, and Dad, Grandma & Grandpa. I sure do miss them. Seeing them again in this video brought tears to my eyes. Thank you... My boys and I will watch this again & again. Time sure does go by fast.
47:15-47:25 That was me as a kid. It's crazy to think that someone else got a video of me that is etched in this video for the Sunrise Drive-In. It's so amazing so hear my grandmother and grandparents talk about this Drive-In and thank you so much for being able to get footage of all this. I was remembering going at the tail end before the whole thing was shut down entirely. Being able to see some of that history has really brought tears to my eyes and a euphorically strange but calming feeling about back then.
I moved to FO in 1983, but I don't have a recollection of ever having actually gone to see a movie at this drive in, although I think I must have. Bummed if I didn't.
Ah drive ins. Going there with my high school buddies when Jeff Buchanan bought a 63 Impala SS.I still cannot believe how up in Seattle we would sneak people in through our trunk. Some Drive Inns up there charged by the person not just by the car load. And it was cheap! We could meet lovely lasses there. Or take a date. Then when I got stationed here at Mather in December of 1974 at Mather A.F.B. I loved taking my then fiancee to the Sunrise Drive Inn as she lived in Fair Oaks. What memories, the last was the drive in off of Bradshaw.
Thank you for bringing me back to earth and how the good ole' days were. Raised in Fair Oaks, on Winding Way, so many great memories there. In fact, I drove by there 2 days ago and told my wife about the great memories. Now I stumbled across your video. what are the chances.... THANK YOU!!!
Man what a trip so many memories my uncle started taking my younger brother there every weekend around '69' my friends and I practically lived there '75' thru about '80' the smell as you got close to the snack bar everyone partied together and yes that unforgettable voice over the loud speakers lost my virginity there and even took my kids there for quite some time Wow thanks for bringing back the memories. What years did you take the videos?
I'm so happy that you share my joy in thinking back on the Sunrise Drive-In. Video footage was taken starting in 1990 through 1995. My wife and I moved to Vancouver, WA in 1996. We returned to Orangevale in 2011.
I do not think so. It is brcause the bathrooms got ran down there. I still love the sacramento 6 on 50. Nice to do the the sound thru the radio was way different. I wish they fixed up sac better again..
Some projects I edit with Final Cut Pro, other times, like with the Sunrise Drive-In project, I use Adobe Premiere. I use most of the Adobe Software product line for a great many things. I also have a couple of 3D programs that I use for recreating things such as the Sunrise Drive-In sign seen in the opening of the Sunrise Drive-In project.
Thanks for sharing. I made many wonderful memories at the drive in. The movies when I was younger and the cruise when I was a teen.
Well done my friend 👏.

It's now a gated community with homes. They did name the streets after movie stars in remembrance of the Sunrise Drive-In however.

Do you remember when Chris Shively told us that somebody dropped a dummy off the top of one of the movie screens?
@@Trev612 that was true, My uncle Mike was the one that did that he gave somebody a heart attack buy that stunt😬
I might as well chime in. What's up my boys? Randomly found this video and saw you guys on the thread. Cool story D 🙂
Thank you for sharing your grandparents with us.
Saw E.T. there when I was a kid.

Is the land still vacant and undeveloped like the final pictures?
No . . . they built about 258 homes there.
