I’m currently battling depression, my major depressive episodes can really get out of hand, I can become aggressive while being extremely sad

I live in Europe and we don't have this Persistent Depressive Disorder thing.. I suffer from Major Depressive Disorder and is pretty much the worst thing you can get. I'm 38 I suffer from it since high school (17 years old). At least this was the first time when I visited a doctor. So, as you can imagine I did it all Prozac, Zoloft, etc.. I wasn't constant on my treatment since didn't helped me too much. In 2015 my single family member died (my mother) and she died in huge pains, cancer. As you may imagine this didn't helped at all. I went to a doctor because was too much to handle. I was on Venlafaxine this time and of course Seroquel (300mg XR) I know is quite a large dose. After 1 year of getting weight, feeling dizzy and realizing I destroy my liver, my pancreas, my eyes (my vision got worse) I quit taking them and took it "cold turkey" style. In all those years with treatment and without it was the same for me. I don't really think is a solution, I just accepted my situation. I have enough this mental fragility I don't want my body to fail under heavy treatments, they don't work anyway. Is like getting high on drugs. So I guess.. this is it. For people hopping, I don't want to scare you but all the depression cases I heard of, are getting worse with time. So prepare for a hell of a ride.

I wake up feeling shit and hating the world everyday! I'm 43 male and have struggled my whole life with anxiety and depression if that's what you call it? I was diagnosed with Persistent depression disorder or Dysthymia. I'm very confused by the whole lot.
I've struggled to be a part of my family and struggled to keep a job over the last 30 years. I have bouts of where I would like to end it all because it takes way to much energy to go on!!
I am sick of explaining myself to wife or kids or even friends where nobody seems to understand why i feel so down and useless.
I think i mabe explaining this not for an answer but to let others know you are not alone.

aussiekickinback you must explain to them that you have a medical condition that takes feelings away from you. You must make it clear to them that what you have is a disease much like Parkinson’s is a disease. Like Tourette’s. It’s another medical condition that takes away certain human abilities. It varies per person, but in my case, it’s a condition that takes away my ability to feel empathy, sympathy, happiness, and even sadness. It’s a defect in the neurotransmitter metabolism that, in my case, affects my sense of smell and balance. In other cases, it can take away your taste buds as well. It’s a condition that affects my immune system as well. So it’s a medical condition that affects people’s senses and feelings due to chemical deficiencies. And you must explain to them that there is a difference between the word depressed, and the word depression. Depressed is a mood anyone can feel. Depression is a medical condition that takes away ones feelings and senses every once in a while. But yes, crying is involved in depression disorder because of those moments when you can feel again. Knowing and feeling that you are broken inside. The most prominent feeling whenever feelings do come back for a person with depression is sadness. Hence the weird name, depressive disorder.

I appreciate the explanation of all these terms, it is really helpful to understand more about my own mental health. I wonder if you would make a video specifically about what is Persistent Depressive Disorder that goes more in to detail about the symptoms, the course of it over someones lifetime, and treatment?

Oh, my gosh. This is even more confusing than it used to be. I used to want to study Psychology, but I couldn't understand it then, and now with all the many different new labels, and disorders, and syndromes, and criteria, I am even more confused. Now that all makes my depression worse and more complicated. Not sure whether I will ever get properly diagnosed, cause now I have mania peeking through the shadows.

I had suffered depression on n off from the age of 10, where it would last for say a week 2 tops, but somehow always sort of managed to quicklg pull myself out of it. Im bow 36, and fir the last almost 4 years its been a persistant and constant state with deppresion, id say i xant actually remember the last time i had felt even the smallest bit of feeln happy tbh i actually cant remember what any sort of feeln ti do with feeln happy ir even a good sence of emition actually even feels like. Within this time id say about 4month after it started began neglecting myself (complete self-still am tbh) and then agortly after this i began slowly isolating myself from the world, and became a nervous reck n between anxiety, panic and nausea the thought of going outside terrified me. I havent saw my friends ir made any effort to c them or family (only mainly 1 member n thtad cause she comes through in a car n brings me to hers n drive me back agIn) Since the start of march i began slowly managing to get out but it was a nytmare, espesialky when the anxaity n panic com on when out id jusr stand in a state of (dont know what word it is id use) but id b havn pallpatatin start sweatn frin head to toe (like a sunny day but ud c me b thing a rain cloud had just soaked me) n to the bargain id b in tears n just the thought/wish/hole that a sinkhole would open up n swallow me or some other cause of a natural unfortunate (fortunate for me) accudent would happen. Anyways im a vit better now at goin out, though still not socialising yet with any1. I hadnt gone to the docs as (i was i dont know what id call it) to seek any help or advise. At the wnd of june my mum was diagnosed with cancer (she was upbeat about finished her treatment now has to have a scan in feb to ensure its away, 🙏) i dont know y but when she told me bout it

It was the 3rd of july i finally managed to persuade myself to go to c my GP, id was started on a corse of anti depresants that began 1 a nyt then up2 2,3,4 then 5 a nyt over 4 month almost 5 (middle of november) but i wasnt feeln even the slightest bit of emotionally betternss, so was change to a diff anti depresant that began 1 then 2 a nyt and on thursday there my docs told me to up them 2 3 a nyt, (still no feeln any diff/ i know its only bn like 2 n 1/2 weeks, but) . I hate feeln like this i avoid mirrors cause i dont even want to c or look at myself, i feel just pathetic n useless, nothingness, wothless abso no self esteem or confidence, no motivation at all even to go and take care of my self (personal care/hygine) iv allowed myself to become lets say discusting, my skins

That was ABSOLUTELY confusing and made NO SENSE whatsoever. Honestly, what does it even matter what the difference is? Does it change the treatment at all? All I want is for my depression to go away and yet I've found no solutions. I've tried several medications and I can't stay on them for the required 30 days before I supposedly will start to feel better. They always make me feel even worse and even more suicidal. Thanks for your attempt to make sense of these stupid terms. I was hoping to gain some insight that might be helpful but neither your explanation nor anyone else's explanations shed any light.

Two whole years required for a diagnosis of persistent depression? That's a joke! If that's biological depression (mostly or at least partially) it would cause long term consequences to the brain.

Major is a just kidding you aren't gonna do it yet but you thought i was gonna do it. It's about dying. Persistent is continuous, synthetic physiological depression? After psychotic depression? They just do it with remission.
