  • In this video James and I are going to install a Vintage Air a/c system on our LS swapped Squarebody GMC shop truck! Living in the southeast, A/C is a must-have, so we tackle the install with a complete system made by Vintage Air that we purchased from #summitracing. If all goes well, Winston will be just as cool on the inside as he is on the outside.
    Hopefully you have been following along with our Winston project build, but if not you can watch the entire playlist here;

      @@hammersgarage FYI, nappa part number 10077 is a 3/4 to 5/8 hose with a right angle at the firewall side that will perfectly suit the application.

    Recently just finished my vintage air project - universal 86 c10 gen IV😅 tips
    1) I’m not what you would call handy ..
    2) mechanics recommend a 20 hr project- 40- 50 project for me
    3) the template was a disaster for me : ended up just cutting a huge hole in the fire wall so the holes didn’t have to be exact and would give access through the engine compartment vs being forced to tak it out if I had problem
    4) would recommend taking the seat out
    5) didn’t use the duct work under the steering wheel and used extra 2-3 tube to extend it
    6) I needed an extra hand to mount the condenser
    7) you will need a drill and you will be drilling a lot of holes
    8) if you have a stock engine or what not , the compressor will be on the drivers side( but the hoses were pre crimped )
    9) the compressor bracket was a pain , and to loosen the the power steering pump
    10) wiring was intimidating but once I laid it out , it made sense ( directions were good ) and spliced into the radio hot wire for power
    11) hoses are small and used zip ties and aluminum duct tape
    12) you will need to cut the glove box for it to fit , but it will still be functional
    13) you will have to run all power directly to the battery
    14) condenser didn’t line up exact , so I did take the radiator out and the grill off
    15) you will have to be creative with the belts ( vintage told me to buy a few belts and go use the trial/ error method
    Did end up cross threading the compressor
    All in all I got about 90 percent finished and took it to vingate air dealer to finish ( my water pump needed a new bracket ) it would line up correctly
    I did save about 2200 dollars by doing it myself and I am very in tune w/ my truck and learned a whole lot - 😂😂😂😂😂

      Would you do it yourself again or spend the $2200. I’m looking at being in the same boat you’re in.

    It was told to me that when lubricating o-rings for AC systems to always use the same oil that the AC system uses so not to contaminate it.

    Hey brother, I am not running the vintage air, but I did have a question on the factory air system. I was wondering if it’s possible to keep exhaust smoke at stoplights from being pulled in while running the AC or heat my exhaust does not leak only happens at stoplights pulling in the surrounding Exaust.

    • @hammersgarage
      @hammersgarage  2 месяца назад

      Hmmm...that should not be happening. If you have no leaks I would look into where you are dumping, or if the smoke is coming from a small oil leak or something dripping onto the exhaust. Hard to say without seeing your setup.

    • @martinolivas319
      @martinolivas319 2 месяца назад

      I appreciate your response, I’ve just redone my Exaust so no leaks there and I’m dumping behind rear tires so that should not be an issue. I was thinking that maybe my blower motor was pulling in the Exaust from neighboring vehicles at lights or possibly through the vent in passenger kick panel

    • @hammersgarage

      Maybe...try idling somewhere with no one around and see if you still get fumes in the cabin.
