  • This tutorial should work for models like the TD 11 and above, in my case I have a Roland TD 17.
    This tutorial covers recording direct sound from your module and also how to use a plugin called SSD5 for recording acoustic drums.
    Hope this would be helpful for you and thanks for watching.

    Thank You for the lesson! I think you can skip the part of copying the backing track on the sd card. You can add a track (or more) on reaper as backing track and use another track to record the drums. So you can use all the utilities of reaper, for example looping a single section of a song that you want to practice.

    Hi, can I ask some questions? I have TD25KV and all i have done recording was basic plugging in the usb memory. But it’s all WAV sound:
    1.How can I choose to record it in MIDI,
    2.what type of connector do I need to use if I want MIDI directly through my laptop instead of usb memory?

    • @revelionsword
      @revelionsword  4 года назад

      in order to record MIDI you need a usb cable, the model is exactly the same you may have for your printer, if you don't have one you can buy one in a computer store. This is printer usb cable:
      www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-USB-2-0-Cable-Male/dp/B00NH11KIK
      just take a close look to your module, here is the usb port:
      www.kickstartyourdrumming.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/roland-td-25kv-review-module-usb-1024x486.jpg
      then you can follow the same steps from my tutorial in order to record MIDI and Audio via usb,
      you just need to make sure to install the drivers and that your DAW software is recognizing your module. Drivers:

    Do you hear a difference between the module and the computer audio?
    My drum software (AD2) sounds loud and clear though my module, but when I export the recording on the computer, the sound is a bit "muffled", like the drums are in the background and not the main subject. Any way to resolve this?

    • @revelionsword
      @revelionsword  4 года назад

      yes I can hear a difference too, in my case the difference is not considerable, actually I already knew how a TD 17 module sound before buying it and after hearing my module sound directly for the first time it sounded better,
      and related to your software, you need to play around with the export settings in order to find the best quality result,
      in my case I like to export with this settings:

    Do you have to use SSD5 or can you just use the module sound of in my case TD25. Can you still EQ and mess around with the sound of your drums in that case?

    • @revelionsword
      @revelionsword  4 года назад +1

      hey Sebastien, thanks for watching,
      it's not necessary to use SSD5, you can record the sound from your TD 25 directly with your pc,
      the only downside is that the audio can only be recorded in a single track (no way to record components individually like snare or kick drum),
      anyways you can EQ the resulted track like adding some gain, more bass or something like that, you can also change your recorded drums sound with EQ but this will affect the whole drums.
      I personally prefer using SSD5 or Superior Drummer 3 (another plugin) for recording drums for drum covers, you could take a look at my drum cover videos for getting a better idea about this,
      regards.

    hello. what about punching in sections? is it as simple as selecting a region and recording like you normally would?

    • @revelionsword
      @revelionsword  4 года назад

      with sections you mean positional sensing? if yes I think SSD5 supports some positional sensing for the snare only and you don't have to set up anything in order to record it,
      of course you need to have a snare with the positional sensing feature, snares like the PDX-12 only supports rim-shot and doesn't support positional sensing.

    • @revelionsword
      @revelionsword  4 года назад

      got it, for that is recommended to record MIDI because if you make any mistake you can edit your MIDI and fix those specific parts where you played the wrong "notes", or also you can record just a specific section of the song and then add a new track on your DAW software, cut the wrong piece and replace it with the good one,
      in order to edit the MIDI with Reaper you just need to double click on the MIDI track and then the MIDI editor will be opened, there you can edit the position of every note, it's volumen level and it's length

      Drum plugins are used for interpreting recorded MIDI, as you can see on this tutorial you can record MIDI with your roland td 17, after you recorded it you can add the drum plugin you downloaded,
      you should do the same steps I did for selecting ssd5, in your case if your plugin is compatible with reaper you should be able to see it on the add plugin screen, select it and after setting it up you can play (on reaper) your recorder midi notes,
      if you want to hear on reaper right when you play on your drums I don't recommend that, there's a delay, usually drum plugins are made for recording purposes only

      hi Michal, I didn't find any drivers either so I guess your drum module doesn't need them, on Windows the drivers get installed automatically most of the times, in Macs too but only with simple usb devices with no crazy features,
      I also found that your module only supports recording MIDI via usb (no audio support), so probably that makes your module a simple usb device when connected to the pc (I'm guessing that means it doesn't require any special usb drivers)
      did you try already searching your MIDI device in Reaper after plugin in your module to your pc?
      if you already did it and it's not getting recognized then you'll have to set up your module in the MIDI options and enable MIDI output
      on the user manual I found these two options:
      GM MODE and LOCAL CTRL, try with one of these
