Thanks yet again for doing these. When I go to people's houses, I always make a point of poking through their music collections, so this is like hanging out at your place too.
We like watching your music collection videos
cause your taste in music is awesome :D
I have watched and made it through this whole video, and got to see the paint dry on the wall, the grass grow, and feel my 5'o clock shadow grow.
I love long(er) CD/DVD/VINYL collections anyway. Always better, thanks for uploadin.
Also, I watched every CD video all the way through and I very much enjoyed them and feel more knowledgeable about good music!
I asked my brother what was a "CD" and he told me that it was something that wour ancestors created to listen to music, when music costed money!
We learn something every day!
I've just finished watchin this. Now I'm gonna watch all your other 4 parts. Cheers :)
i thoroughly enjoyed the tours of your cd collection, greg. you have some that i don't, but i have some that you don't. took me 4 hours to watch this vid all the way through - got sidetracked, had to play some tracks that i hadn't heard in a long time. i realized, too, that most of my music is from the 80's (alas, no disco), 90's, with a few earlier and later. squeeze, the who, yes, j.t., but i veered a little left of center. ramones, pil, clash & alt rock - breeders, juliana hatfield, pixies..
I was introduced to "They Might Be Giants" when I was like 12 (25 now) from Tiny Toon Adventures with "Particle Man" and "Istanbul". Been a fan since.
I haven't heard of any of these bands, ever, and yet I still watch the whole thing. Greg is my drug.
I have Bill Wither Live on vinyl. It was my dad's record at one point but I love that record.
I'm just at the beginning of this video. I bet you I'm going to watch the ENTIRE thing! ;)
well i was one of those 5 people and god you have good taste in music, got allot of new stuff bc of this series ;] thx
I made it to the end and i wasn't bored for a second. :)
James Taylor fan as I do," love it. I assume that was unintentional but either way it's funny. Loved this video, keep it up! I agree you should do your itunes library, and your Jazz/Blues collection. And Greg, you could make a 2-hour video and I'd still watch it. Five people at the end of this vid you say? I'll be your one person who stayed to the end of THAT one! : )
I have found myself strangely addicted to these videos. Also I am a HUGE fan of brendan benson Sooooooo... yeah, ide enjoy that cd
i done it greg i watched it all and tbh i feel quite suprised i didnt get bored
Tears for fears you have. But where tf is atleast one DEPECHE MODE record? Their stuff is the best in 86-93, you should begin with this.
Watched the whole thing. Your cd collection puts mine to shame. Looking forward to the jazz and blues section. I hope "explorations" by Bill Evans trio is in there.
the band "Air" I think you would love them, so beautiful.
If you like The Dear Hunter you will love Forgive Durden. Both of their albums Wonderland and Razia's Shadow are incredible. (Razia's shadow actually features the singer of The Dear Hunter. Its a musical where they assembled all the singers that they had a chance to tour with. Its a fantastically crafted hour of music.)
Also I'd recommend Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons. Its fantastic folk/blues music that takes me back about ten years to sitting around the fire with friends.
I watched the whole video and it was really interesting. Didn't know much of the bands or artists you were talking about but it was good anyway.
Greg, i have the time to watch your amazing videos :P
You are, the world's second most interesting man. If you were to make a 33:33 minute video about your CD collection, I would have to resist the strong urge to thank you.
you have to try listen to one of these. The White stripes, U2, Twisted sister, Thin Lizzy, the Scorpions, The Rolling Stones, The Rasmus, The Ramones, The Raconteurs, and R.E.M.
I MUST see your jazz!
GIANT VIDEO !!
entertaining and fun!Thank you!Nice rendition of Jackie Wilson!
I can't believe you still haven't gone through your jazz/blues collection. I'd love to see you talk more about music.
i watched it all and i enjoyed it : D
Yes... Is my all time favorite band.... Yessongs that triple album made me want to become a musician.... Greg you were awesome before but showing the Chris Squire Fish out of Water CD made me want to make a shrine in your name. Haven't even seen the Yes part of this video yet.
Oooh, Brendan Benson. I love it.
i jsut skipped to the end cause i knew you would tell me im awesome for making it to the end
Aww @ 21:50 looked like Buddy really thought about it :D
about CD's, i still buy them. itunes is great, but i agree about having something to look through. And others still swear by vinyl vs cd for sound quality. Thanks for sharing your collection!
@estderoma One way is by resizing the browser to where it's up in a corner while you do additional parts of your life - that's how I watched the whole thing, as with the other CD collection videos. Couldn't do that effectively with a video that emphasized the visual, but for one that's audio-heavy, very possible to do.
did i really just watch ALL of this? 0.0
I love Tom Waits. Mule Variations, "Take It With Me", that song always makes me cry. I love Zappa, and I love Yes "Drama" EP. Such great progressive stuff. But Waits is regressive, and I love that too.
BTW the Squeeze album would be awesome. Such a great band.
I feel good making it until the end. Two more great bands I can think of right now are The Drums and Coheed & Cambria. Also, if you wanna try some really technical psychedelia, The Mars Volta is amazing.
i really want to see your jazz cds!!!
One of the best cd collection video series on yt. Thanks for this "entertainment"
And yes. I've watched the entire thing.
Looking forward to upload my collection asap.
Some questions and recommandation:
1. Do you know "The Residents" and if so, what do you think about them?
2. Do you know "Fruitbats"?
3. Do you collect vinyl as well?
Greetings from germany,
maier
Greg! You're neat!
I know you said that you weren't a huge fan of metal, but one of my absolute favorite bands is Amorphis. They are a Finnish folk metal band, and they are incredible. If you check them out, don't listen to anything before the CD "Eclipse." I started with "Silent Waters," so I recommend that.
Haha, this was uploaded on my birthday :) Niice one man
You should check out "Them Crooked Vultures". The members of the band are Dave Grohl - Foo Fighters, Nirvana (drums), Josh Homme - Queens of the Stone Age (lead vocals and lead guitar) and John Paul Jones - Led Zeppelin (bass).
I can't believe I watched the whoooollleee thing.
Greg check out "Old Crow Medicine Show" and "My Morning Jacket"
Loved watching all these. I'm a video late, but have any Joe Purdy? Great stuff
Hi there. I just came in to see whats going on. These Greg's CD collections pop up in my sub box, and I simply don't care for his CD collection, so I don't watch. But part 5 of 33.33 minutes long?! You must love CD's, dayummm!
Watched it to the end. I would suggest Wintersleep (kinda Neil Young-ish), Matthew Good (Canadian singer/songwriter) , Sam Roberts (another Canadian singer/songwriter) and there's a fantastic band from Wales called People In Planes.
Watched the whole thing. I find these videos strangely compelling.
My (probably) last recommendation is a blues-rock guy named Paul Thorn. His backstory is incredible and his songs range from fun and impossible to get out of your head to absolutely heart-wrenching. Please check out Mission Temple Fireworks Stand, you will love it.
Imagine if James Taylor had a RUclips Channel and vlogged. Boy George did it for a while.
Trivia Question: Where did Toad the Wet Sprocket get their name?
5 People and a Sockpuppet!
Whoo~! One of the few... the proud... the five. Give or take a dozen or so people apparently.
I was one of the five! OK, I recommended this earlier, but I don't think you saw it. You mentioned liking some punk, and this is one of the punk bands I really like: Flogging Molly. Not for everyone, but check them totally out!
I feel your JT love too.
wow... 30 min. Im sorry Greg, dont have time to watch this. love your videos
I WATCHED ALL OF IT
i have one question how in the hell is it this long it say that youtube can be only 15 min
No worries on the length of the video, Greg!
A recommendation for you; Hirasawa Susumu. He is an incredible singer/songwriter/musician who started back in the 70's and is still going strong. Yes, his lyrics are in Japanese but, honestly, even though I can't understand a single thing he says, his music is just fantastic. His stuff is really experimental and synth/electronic, but it's just great. For starters, I would recommend "Solar Ray" which is him collecting/recomposing some of his hits.
Might want to check out Tragically Hip. Canada's best kept secret. Tracks: 100th meridian, New Orleans is Sinking, Fiddler's Green and of course Grace Too.
Ok I watched that whole thing, I may have already recommended these before but here we go. I don't like country but the closest to it I love would be a band called Tarkio, they arent together anymore and you can get all their songs on one cd called Omnibus. And secondly, you seem to have very similar musical tastes to me so I'll share my all time favorite. Check out Interpol, specifically their first album Turn on the Bright Lights, my favorite guitar work is pretty much that whole album.
i watched it all!
The scary part is that some of us would want one of the giveaway CDs simply because Buddy (aka "Buuuuuuuuuuddy") has honored it with his furry funny bod.
Hey Greg! I think you'd really like Bob Mould's band from the early 90s, Sugar (if you haven't already heard them and made an assessment)! They only have two albums and a couple EPs, but they're a band with a big heart that packs a walloping punch!
I recommend Can. Brilliant German band from the 1970s. Start with Tago Mago. If you like the weirder stuff, you'll like all of the other stuff.
i want a squeeze album so much *.*
*Slap* Thats for not having any Al Yankovic Albums.
But yay, im one of the five people who watched till the end.
I kinda liked it not for the music, but its just as if your a neighbour of mine and i come to visit you and you just talk about your favorite music. I enjoyed all five of the parts and good night, cameralady and Greg.
You should hear the band Tarkus form Perú, they were from the 70's.
i would like the squeeze album if at all possible. i used to have it but my laptop and ipod were both stolen (i bought a new laptop but my music collection is gone) so i think this would be a good way to get my collection rebooted :)
Greg if you enjoyed Deerhunter you should look up the singer's (Bradford Cox) solo work. Its is called Atlas Sound and it is really breathtaking... Thumbs up for Deerhunter!!!
Joe Satriani is an amazing guitarist, his stuff is all instrumental and based around the electric guitar. Really awesome stuff
I watched the entire video (and every other one for that matter)! I feel very accomplished. One question though; why do you have Tenacious D if you don't listen to it? Just wondering.
This is not
the longest video ever
this is just a tribute
Yay i made it to the end!
No Sparks CDs? You are missing out.
As a fellow They Might Be Giants fan, I was wondering if you have any of their albums with kids music like "No!" or "Here come the A, B, Cs".
Brendan Benson Me me me me me me me me!
I quite like your reinterpretation of Mr Klaw.
You could just rip them and then generate a dir list...saves lots of time...
I made it to the end. You might want to check out "Captain Beefheart"s album "Trout Mask Replica"... It isn't what you'd call "accessible" but it's really interesting after you listened to it one or two (dozen) times... :)
There's also the band "Can". I like the album "Ege Bamyasi" especially the song "Vitamin C"...
well done. That diden't even feel like 33 min.
Sweet, I love squeeze
Since you like thousands of artists (literaly) who would your top 10 be?
Great collection though
Hi Greg! Here are my recommendations: Charly García, a musician of my country (Viernes 3 A.M.); Dire Straits (Sultans of swing); Ewan Dobson, who is the one of the best guitarist alive in my opinion (Blood and ice); Jeff Schmidt, outstanding bass player (Seeing is freeing). Hope you like it!
i recommend the band zebra. tell me what you want is a great song of theirs.
im surprised im still watching at 25 min.
I was waiting for Squeeze, to see if they got mentioned or not. Love 'em. They're so, Londony, with allegorical songs. Never cared for Cool for Cats song either, to me it just sounds odd and different I s'pose.
@srpenny This video started in the late S's. Queen comes before R.
Update 2020 ? :)
Was about to post the same!
I want the Brendon Benson CD!
I only watched 33 minutes and 32 seconds of this. I couldn't make it all the way through :(
I would love the squeeze cd
try listening to ruberlaris, theyre on spotify there a local band from england and a combination of indie and ska. the best of their songs on spotify is zipped up dynamite :)
HELL YEAH THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS! Best band evarrrrrrrrrrr. John Linnell also has another album called "House of Mayors". Not as well known as State songs, and kinda strange, but it is pretty interesting. Also, I know that you said that you had Presidents of the United States first album, but they kept on rockin, and you may want to check out the rest of their discography.
@mrwalker107 He most likely has them on iTunes.
What about 'Mirrorball' from Neil Young? I really like that album, especially because it's done with Pearl Jam!
Thats alott of CD's ! D:
I can't believe you have no thin lizzy! or Gary Moore and phill lynott
Do you know Dream Theater? I think you can compare them a bit with Yes both is pretty progressive... Just try them they are amazingly talented.
No robert johnson or frank sinatra?
Awesome videos man, and I love the guild!!!! ^_^
I need me some Benson!!!!
thumbs up if you actually made it through all 5 parts and all 33 minutes of this part
