I got a new Recording King 12 string for $200, changed out the strings ($25 for a set of Elixirs) and the bridge pins (about $25 for bone) -- now it is a decent 12 string guitar. Not as good as my Taylor 756ce, but surprisingly good.

great sounding guitar
I have this same guitar - it plays much more easily than most 6ers right down the neck. Only after contacting Taylor did I realise that the guitar is designed to be tuned to standard and that if you do the usual 12-thing of tuning down a whole tone, then it doesn't respond well. It's sound is amazing. True, it lacks the treble jangle of a full bore 12, but it's still an absolute beauty.

I got a ibanez performance 12 string acoustic guitar it cost peanuts but it sounds epic and the action on the guitar is magic it is so easy to play i could not have asked for a better 12 string acoustic guitar thanks a million ibanez

I've researched this model as well as the 800 model from Taylor and they are the ones I've narrowed it down to. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks again...

I got that exact guitar from my wife as a AWESOME gift. It plays fantastic. years ago my father had a Guild 12 string and it was also amazing. but my Taylor plays so much nicer. The smaller body makes no difference in the sound quality. This Taylor is has a very big bright tone. best 12 STRING EVER.

I bought my first 12-string 3 days ago. Not too expensive. A Takamine G-series Jumbo. Sounds great. Bought it together with a fitting capo (G7th) and a Peterson Clip Tuner as I have done before when I bought a Resonator.
I tuned it down a half step putting the capo on the first fret, because I did that for a long time on my 6-string.
Now I've heard that's good to tune the 12-string down, due to the high tension to the neck. Half or even a full tone.
Is this still recommended for modern Guitars? Or will halftone be enough?
Marty, would you please do 'Life by the drop' on your 12-string?

I'm really interested in buying one, I researched on internet the price in U.S is about US$ 2,660 but for us in Brazil will cost more than US$ 7,000 because the taxes is so high!
Marty...finally somebody who knows about the 12 string guitar. I'm new to 12 string. But I've been playing 6 strings for years. Your demo was very informative. I like your playing. Thanks for not "beating" the $hit out of the strings. Most other demos I've watched the guys beat the strings too hard. I'm very interested in getting the 562ce. Another guitar I was looking at was the 150e. How do you compare this to the 150e?
Whats the song you play at the start of the video?
12 fret guitars = lower string tension = easier to press the string down to the frets. Makes a big difference on a 12 string, since you have to press 2 strings at a time.

12 strings are the voice of angels. Have you ever heard of the band Killing Floor? If you haven't, check them out. Pretty cool band from the 70s that would make for some cool lessons

My best friend (mgr. of local music store ) sold me a Taylor 814 CE a guy ordered and then changed his mind on, it turns out years later the $2500 guitar is a inlayed signature model of only 400 made worth around $4700 today, it is so nice I hate to play it. I got lucky even though it still hurts to spend that kind of money. Thanks, GOD bless you !!!
My Yamaha is a jumbo and never goes out of tune. I have have not heard of that being an issue before.
There's a Mexican genre called Sierreño or campirano that also uses 12 strings but each string is put it pairs with normal strings like the e and b string. You should check it out. Search up Jesus Ojeda, Ariel Camacho, el fenómeno del requinto, Virlan García, and Alta Consigna.
