That’s interesting. So you register the car every year? I was hoping it was a one off payment when you bought the car. At least it’s offset by the lower rate of income tax that you pay in the US.
There is a renewal of the registration tags each year, based on the value of the car and a passed a SMOG test (Nevada). This can be different state to state. Similar to the UK road tax with MOT. We are still learning how this works.
Years ago (in Texas) I bought a new car, base model off the lot. There were no bells or whistles on the car. When I was signing the paperwork to purchase the car, they gave me an itemized list of the chages. One of the items I saw was a charge for a pinstripe on the car!!! The car I was purchasing was a very base model and had NO pinstripe on it!!! If I hadn't paid attention I would have paid for something that wasn't even on the car!!! Who knows what else I was charged for that I didn't even know about!!! Car dealerships are 100% scammers... just like insurance companies. My brother has owned his house in Texas for overb30 years. Its 100% paid for and insured. A big eind storm blew over a large tree in his yard and it hit the roof. Remember, he has paid insurance on this house for over 30 years!!! The contractor repaired the damage to the roof and made a quote for the cost of the repairs. But then the insurance came in and seriously lowballed how much they would pay!!!! Like a difference of 40k!!! Now, they have to go to court to get the insurance to pay for the repairs!!!
Wow! Charging for a pinstripe! We have definitely learnt to check the itemized charges. That is terrible about your brother's home and the insurance not paying out.
I spent several weeks looking for a 2-3 year old car, no dealer was was interested as I was a cash buyer. I needed to pretend I was looking at financing the car to get the best price. Also junk charges, were a nightmare, anyway the dealer could add a fee or absolutely anything they would. I put this down to most people financing their car ate only looking at the monthly cost and not the out the door price. I was quoted by one dealer $10,000 more than the advertised price once they had added all the junk fees. Dealer charges in Florida are between $499 - 2500. When I would challenge the dealers on some of the charges the lies were incredible with one dealer telling me he was the most honest dealer in the area because he did not lie as much as the others. I eventually bought a car on the last day of the month at a dealer who was obviously short of his target and got all the junk charges removed as I could buy on the day. Not looking forward to repeating the process any time soon. I hope you enjoy your new car! Chris a Brit in Florida.
That is terrible but doesn't surprise us at all. The junk charges are absolutely crazy and unjust. We are discussing your comment now. They will also add things that aren't even on your car... like charge you for a pinstripe that's not even on your car. Or the cost of the tires will be triple what they would cost if you bought the same tires from a tire shop!!! They are major scammers!!!
Avoid all east cost cars they’re cheap because they have salt damage from the amount of salt used to clear snow. These cars will have a lot of undercarriage rust.
@@uriahhudson7117but the southern states will have salt damage because of storms and the ocean/beaches. I remember my grandparents lived near Galveston, Texas. Their cars were always rusted!!!
The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is also on the title, the registration card, the insurance card, and the insurance policy, as well as on the vehicle itself. I can't believe it costs $1,300 a year to register a car in Nevada. That doesn't sound right. It doesn't cost anywhere near that much in NY for a two-year registration. Also, there's usually a discount for the second car when you have two cars on the same insurance policy.
Cars sold in the western US have higher environmental standards to meet (colloquially referred to as "California emissions") than the rest of the country, so that accounts for some of the cost difference between East and West regions. These standards are set by the individual states, many of the western states have chosen to just use California's laws on it. For example, I live in Florida and we don't have to have our cars inspected here at all. Also for insurance costs: The type of car you buy will have a huge influence on how much your insurance is. European cars are ridiculously expensive to repair in the US, both due to parts and labor costs as well as just fewer trained and authorized shops and technicians. Not all East Coast just any state above Maryland will have a lot of snow and salt on the streets I'm from Virginia so I know!

It could be but I also think the standard of car driving here is particularly bad, which causes the increase of car accidents.
