I have one of these with no volume out of the speakers - there's enough in this video for me to feel confident enough to give troubleshooting a try. if I can't get it to work, it will be a great boat anchor!
I had the same issue with with the volume control encoder. Thanks for this video, I had replaced it without too much problem, just be careful when disassembled the front control and the big heat sink. I bought the encoder from eBay.
I've seen alot of things in my time but what u give is more more and more that U realy like the way U do the troubleshooting and repairs every itemvery much inside I could repair my own unit at home for u info Thx very much Keep doing so
I have a1067 rotel , the surround channel have no output front channels are working . sent it out spent over 300.00 for repair came back the same plus video not working. unable to send out due to income . had a triple by pass and stoke if you could advise what to do. I will appreciate any help It will probably end up as a door stop thank you in advance
I had the same issue with the volume knob on my RSX 1067 and thank to your great video I was able to easily repair my volume control. Do you have also a schematic for the 1067? I would like to check also some other parts.
I have 3 of these amps all of them with bad volume. Where did you get the repair parts? Do you have a link to the encoder that is needed. I have currently limited soldering skills but I'm willing to take a chance at repairing my amps. I see that the Encoder is an Alps brand. Do you per chance know the model of this part. Alot of people have this exact problem with this exact amp.
Did you have to de-solder the volume encoder and then re-solder it? I have an rsx-1055 and I plan to remove the volume knob completely and extend the wiring to then mount it next to my couch to give me a physical "remote" volume control (vs the Harmony remote that I am using now). Do you see any stumbling blocks that might make this little project more difficult than it seems? I figure that I can just make a nice mounting block for the volume knob and cover the hole in the front of the unit and be done with it since it should just be the 3 wires. Will extending those wires cause the signal to be too weak? Any advice would be appreciated! At any rate, sweet channel! Keep it up!
Interesting idea. Yes I did have to desolder the encoder. I believe it’s a 5 VDC signal. Assuming you’re going to use fairly standard wire 16-20 AWG, even if the wires are 20ft long, you’ll only drop 0.1 to 0.2 VDC, so I don’t think it will affect the signal. Good luck.
I really appreciate your video - thank you. There is not enough on the RSX 1067 on the web. I have one and have enjoyed it, but now am looking to find out if the Multi Channel Inputs (7.1 bypass) could be used to connect a modern Atmos surround processor like the BAS MC1 from Emotiva so I can use the A/V Reciever's amplification to power the speakers while getting the Atmos processing from the Emotiva unit. I *think* this can be done using RCA to RCA connection but am looking for confirmation from anyone knowledgeable. Thank you in advance.
You'd be better of selling you rsx 1067 and buying an old Nad T-773. It has Pre-out/I'm jumpers so it can be run as a straight 7 channel power amp, and has nearly the power that the 1067 has. Otherwise you will be running 2 pre-amps.
Mine's not getting any output. I don't have AC at the speaker terminals. Started out with new voltage at main transformer. Verified the relay worked. Really b+ is not getting 24 volts to turn on the main transformer. Tried bypassing and turning the transformer on still no sound but transformer and rectifier are working. Any ideas.
It’s been a long time since I’ve worked on this. Have you verified all lower voltages are present at the power PCB? Looks like there should be +\- 5, +\-6, +\- 18.. there could be more but that’s a start.
Hola tengo un equipo de esos y tiene un problema es que se dispara como si se protegiera, y entonces cada ves que hace esto se apaga... Por favor si conoce cuál puede ser el fallo dejarme saber.
I have a similar problem with my Rotel. just picked up a Rotel RSX-972. It powers on and I can see the volume numbers go up and down when I turn the volume knob (same with the treble and bass knob). However, when I turn the receiver on and play a CD, the volume is at max and it does not respond to the volume control. I see the volume control numbers reducing, but the volume is not reducing. It is playing at max. Any thoughts on what it could be?
Before I went into the electronics, I tried a Factory Reset to see if that would resolve the issue and it has. It functions fine now. Great content here, I have subscribed to your channel and really enjoy the work that you post. Thanks.
I had a Rotel RSX 1065 receiver that was possessed! The volume increased by itself up to max level, which scared the crap out of me. This happened randomly, and if I tried to decrease the volume, didn’t work: I was turning it down, it was turning up. Always up, not down. I cleaned the rotary encoder, to no avail. I no longer have this receiver, but I am just curios, any idea what might have happened?
Did you have a roommate? A joker maybe? I knew someone who hated his neighbor (a drunk busybody who was always up in everyone's business calling the cops all of the time for the dumbest shit) and took a certain pleasure in disrupting her TV viewing with a remote controller that was programed for her TV. He would wait for her to get good and sloshed and would start tormenting her. She was a falling down stupid drunk who was three sheets to the wind by 5:00 in the afternoon daily and her responses where classic. She thought her house was haunted. I don't think she ever did figure it out.

I didn't understand most of this but it was beautiful to watch. That was awesome 👍
I had a RSX-1052 come in not too long ago with the same volume encoder issue. Bourns PEC16-4025F-N0024 did the trick nicely.
I also enjoy working on electronic equipment, amps, etc. I would love to see you work on some Bang & Olufsen gear (preferably vintage!)
This was a very useful video. Measuring the AC on a voltage regulator is such a good idea.

I enjoy your videos . I have a Rotel 1067 with issues. Watching you has given me knowledge on how to troubleshoot various issues. Thanks a bunch

This was really interesting! I learned something new about digital volune etc. controls. Thanks a lot.
this is awesome ! im learning electronics.... im loving it.

where can i get the schematic for this unit ? rsx 1067?
Kinda left us hanging. What's the part number for the digital encoder. That's not enough info for Digi-Key.
Please, what Is the code for buy a rotary encoder? I have a Rsx1057 whit the same problema. Thank's from Italy!!!
Hi. Mine has issue with surround channels. I can only use it in stereo, any idea where to start ?

You mentioned that the center channel might be dead. Was it actually?
“does he have a patreon accont? um.. yes” and then I watch this video. You should probably place a link to your patreon in video descriptions btw

I have same problem with volume nob. I use the remote to change volume instead.

How to contact with you? If need some help regarding technical issues?
Please see my “about” tab.
Where did you buy the volume part ?
I buy all my components from Digi-Key.
Still waiting on that encoder part number.
This is not a potentiometer, but a Decoder or digipot...they are self contained, and must be partially disassembled to clean, which these need to be.

Not so much grease buildup as tarnish on the encoder internal contacts. Next time actually clean them and you'll see.
