@@fsung1519 It's not that, it just felt rushed, and even if they planned to continue the stories with movies, they could have given us a more conclusive ending in case for some reason the movies ended up being canceled. It's not like a manga adaptation where fans can just read the manga if there's no continuation.
5 reasons 1. Having a Spy anime is a rare experience. 2. Music is composed by Kajiura Yuki 3. Animation wise is really good 4. The director really did a good job in this anime 5. Characters has great and unique personalities.
I also love how in the recently releases dub they all have strong English accents, instead of “generic” (I don’t like that word in this context but couldn’t think of a better one) American dub voices. Not really relevant to the character designs, just thought it was interesting as I e never seen this done with a dub before.
I'm personally mixed on the dub. I also like that they have them proper English accents, but at the same time there are points in it where I feel the VAs are almost holding back with their performance becuase they're trying to keep the accent in tact. But maybe I've also just watched the sub too much. :P
I know right! When I heard it was getting a dub my first thought was "oh, those generic american accents are going to ruin the immersion" but then I watched the first episode dubbed and I was blown away.
Never really paid THAT much attention to how intricate the character designs really were, which might be due to the fact that the characters were so well designed and felt so colorful that I took it for granted, but damn, yeah, I think what you're saying is spot on and I'm now seeing just how much effort was put to make this world feel lived in and it all pays to help with the overall construct of Princess Principal.
Princess Principal is such an incredible show. Also, you might disagree with me for this, but I personally love the English dub. The voice actresses have portrayed the accents really well.
The hair details were really fascinating, especially because Dorothy is literally letting her hair down during missions, i.e. being incredibly relaxed and carefree, though obviously still with the intent to maintain her cover.
Princess Principal character designs, as well as their outfits, are the second point why I like the anime. The OST and its OP is the main reason I watch it.
1:00 don't know about you, but "brown hair" in anime character designs tend to show a person of a lower-to-middle class origins for me. They don't always are, but the darker and more generic the overall designs are, the more true it tends to be.
I absolutely loved this anime, with Tsuki ga Kirei were my favourite from last year. The style, character personalities and designs, structure of the storytelling and plot, it was great and interesanting. I really hope to see more from it.
Holy shit yes! I completely agree, glad to know someone else who is as invested in the world of smoky london as I am. This show is a work of art. I’d like to mention how well the music fits and ties into the whole narrative and setting(and that really cute ED too) I’ll also mention how the dub puts in extra effort(with the english accents) to fit into the shows setting, really makes everything more perfect (except beatrice VA, feels abit off) Overall my most favourite show of 2017
This season in 2018 we got “release the spyce” a spy themed anime featuring cute girls as well. After seeing the first episode, I am reminded what direction princess principal could have gone in(cutesy moe tropes), as was really glad it didn’t go into. Take the last episode for example, a beach scene, yes. But its different from most other beach scenes by the design of beach outfits the characters don(0:13, you’ll see what I mean). It chooses this route,(I feel) to be more historically accurate(in the OP I recall seeing a few names credited under “researchers”) and that makes me respect and love this show even more.
I have to say, initially I found the anime confusing because of the they didn’t really tell you that the rest of the episodes came before the first episode. but once I understood what was going on I fell in love with the show. The side characters like the girls from the laundromat arc felt so alive and real, and not to mention the setting of a steampunk dark london felt very immersive for a spy show.
They do tell you though. If I remember correctly, they precede each episode with a case number and if you look at the numbers, they're not chronological.
Always love to see people talking about Princess Principal :D such a good show, such good characters and an awesome world. and dayum i totally missed that they get 6 movies :O thanks for informing me :D
I think the animator just want a realistic hair color because so far in the series there no one with multiple hair color and also angie hair is not plain grey is blonde grey because of her past but what you say about how they pick for their design is correct
I forgot about this anime, being a casual. So, I legit thought this was going to be an analysis about a trope or something like that called the "princess principal" lol. But I think I'll loop around to check it again cause I did like what I saw, thanks for reminding me.
This anime is one of my favourites. There are so many twists in the story, sometimes it makes you think. Personally, i think that the biggest one is the current princess was not the real princess and her age is different than what we was told about her(think she was 14 or so)
I really get your point about the sencondaty characters, I think that one of the elements that usually ruins Isekai anime for example, is the fact that it looks like any other character can't exist on its own without the main hero around.
I absolutely loved the soundtrack of Made in Abyss, and I enjoyed the series a lot, but I don’t think it clicked with me near as much as it seemed to do with a lot of other people. It could be because it’s so open-ended, or maybe because of some of the really uncomfortable scenes, but while I can appreciate it a lot, and again I love Kevin Penkin’s soundtrack, I just don’t think I could ever count it as a favourite. Princess Principal on the other hand is a show I might end up putting on my favourites list, although I only watched it recently so it’s hard to tell. I can’t wait for those sequel movies whenever they finally get made. It’s a shame they got delayed, but as long as it helps keep people safer and they do get made I don’t mind how long they take.
I actually think it was the best show of last year. Edging out Made in Abyss in how it played as a cohesive whole in mixing all its elements, not for having a few episodes that worked well to make up for the rest, but individual ones. The morgue episode worked so well with a setting of a Victorian morgue, drama that is not in place of unrealistic that it could happen in real life, moral complexity, and atmosphere that the end in the pub really stuck with me. Sure Made in Abyss' last episode will truly stick with with impact, but how many other episodes had that effect? Maybe the one with the Orb piercer, or Oxen explaining the birth? But every episode of Princess Principal had a twist that really revealed a new dimension to a character, in what they have been through, and how they are willing to act, and not feel inconsistent.
It’s still amazing how two great animes are getting movies. Made in Abyss is getting another movie in Jan. 2020 and The Princess principle movie is coming out in 2019 (dunno the release date yet)
I came across it early in '18 & thoroughly enjoyed the premis , turn of the century female 'james bond' spies, btw the last scene at series end is obviously a homage to the 'bond' films. Thanks waiting for the dvd box set in november.
This is a hell lot better than made in abyss. MiA got a pass because it had a single more impactful scene and a more mystical feel that naturally make people go gaga over it, while this is a lot more grounded and has to stand on its own merits.
Great video. I love how you honestly described why this anime should be watched. However, I am not interested as the themes of the anime are not of my tastes since it involves deception and some specific themes of killing. But great video!
