- On this episode we compare and contrast the the two main variations of Seiko 5's new 'DressKX' or '5KXplorer' to shed a little light on some of the similarities and differences, so hopefully anyone still trying to figure out which is best for them might have a slightly easier time deciding. Let me know what you all think in the comments below, thanks guys!

Great review. Really helped change the way I see the SRPEs. I was looking at them as a fixed bezel 5KX so having all the “downsides” of that model (no screw down crown, only 100m WR etc) but you’re totally right. This is more like a beefed up classic Seiko 5 or Alpinist. An everyday tool watch in the vein of the Explorer, the ultimate GADA watch. I think I’ll have to pick one up!
That dial design is awesome: Simple, clean, functional.
I am glad Seiko are still making attractive watches at an affordable price.
For now, soon we'll be looking at orient for that
I've never seen someone do the low light transition! That makes your reviews extra special. Kudos
The more I see of this grey strap model the more I need to have it. Thinking of this to be my new workwatch. Best with 3 matching NATO's in weekly rotation.
Yes,the difference in brushed vs polished bezel was a deciding factor on which to get. I much prefer a brushed finish, especially on the bezel.. just has a slightly toned down look and more tooly/sporty, usually. Had the bracelet version come with brushed bezel, wish I would have preferred, I would have gotten that.
Anyways, went for am international version on the strap, the SRPE65K1 with olive drab dial and matching stock NATO, and going to adapt an Uncle Seiko Holzer bracelet (made for Omega Speedmaster) in all brushed finish to it as my bracelet option for the watch. Is said to easily fit well on these new smooth bezel 40mm seiko 5s.
This I would probably be fine keeping stock without any mods. Perfectly fine with hardlex and no screwdown crown on this general line. 100wr without screwdown is perfectly usable. C'mon, this is Seiko, they know how to make divers AND dive style watches.
I bought it in blue (with bracelet), then after agonizing for awhile, bought the sunburst gray (with strap). I moved the bracelet over to the gray watch -- they go together so well I can't believe they aren't offered together. The bracelet is comfortable, but I'm looking for a better (jubilee-like) bracelet now. I like the stainless beauty of the gray. The blue is a bit too dark, and as a result looks relatively flat. What did I put on the blue? I used a stylish blue silicone that resembles the new Seiko silicone straps. Great review, thanks!
help me pick one: black, blue or gray?
Thanks for the comparison! Would have been great if you showed the brushed bezel version with the bracelet on.
I would be more comfortable with a screw down crown for this watch. Sharp looking though. Good throw-back simple styling.
Agreed! Seems like a no-brainer for a de-bezeled SKX.
Screw down crowns on Seikos do not make the watch water resistant, the gaskets do. If you have an SKX007 with the crown unscrewed but not out in a setting position it is still 200m water resistant. On the old SKX the screw down crown was a safety feature to stop you changing the date while underwater.
Al De Niro So, can I bring my 5kx for island hoping or pool swimming? Is it gonna be any problem? I have Ray ii wr 200m with screw down, it works perfectly for water sports
I like the grey nato with the silvery face. It’s pretty classy for an everyday watch if you work for a living but still have to look good. Great spot!!!
Hopefully Crystaltimes will come out with that watch case in a screw-down crown that would be perfect
I prefer the polished bezel .... I think on a jubilee bracelet the SRPE will look much better :)
I might be the minority but I I don’t like Nato...it ends up making your watch have more functional thickness. Why would I want that?
Welcome to the club! I never liked Nato, more of a bracelet/leather/rubber strap kinda guy (in that order).
nylon is cheap, colorful/patterns, durable and breathes/lightweight. try a 2pc nato, you might be surprised mate
Try a RAF/single layer/mil series strap
Chris 2 piece would interest me
try perlon
If you have a smaller wrist, then I think the brushed bezel makes the watch look smaller (looks better on the wrist). Somehow the shinny bezel amplifies the dimension and optically it looks bigger. Personal preference I guess as always. Just sharing my experience after trying them out in the flesh a few days ago. Cheers
Marvin Yeap can i know your wrist size?
Hi Where When. My wrist size is 6.25 inches.
@@marvyeap did it fit well enough for your wrist? I have similar wrist size as you and I might get this.
I have a small wrist and buy the black, put it on a seatbelt strap and looks amazing

Great video as usual. I picked up the gray on bracelet and the two tone yellow gold from Marc at Long Island Watch. I’m very happy with both. The two tone is very pretty yet not gaudy at all like a lot of two tones. The gray on bracelet obviously is perfect for everyday and could easily prevent me from ever getting the bb36. Thanks for comparing these two similar models.
If, this watch had a sapphire crystal, signed screw-down crown, and sapphire display case back, it would be even more awesome.
Agreed. It would also cost more, but would be worth it.
It’s a seiko 5. Their lower tier model. You can’t except that much
But why do people always want screw-down crowns for entry level (and for sporty but not divers) watches? For these Seiko 5 SRPEs it's completely unneccesary and in my personal opinion for the whole Seiko 5 line up too. If a Prospex doesn't have it, well, than it is a different story... For those watches, for that category a screw-down crown is a totally legitimate expectation or demand.
I would say, for a Seiko 5 a screw-down crown is just a dog and pony show which would increase the price unneccessarly.
@@SsgBence Because it's a nice watch, and people like the crown signed with a decorative symbol.
it would be at least double the price though
Super happy with the brushed version, not sure why but it looks more premium
If i knew someone who is just getting into the watch game and has a budget of ~200ish to spend,, these would be an immediate recommendation as their first mechanical watch that's not a diver.
I hadn't realized the differences in finishing. Good to know. Thanks.
A great review, I’m loving the sunburst , strap version one. Very tempted.
I love this watch. It's my third seiko, but the first one I've bought. I inherited my first Seiko when my brother passed . A few years later my son bought me a solar Seiko. This one I choose and it's simply marvelous!!!
Looking at the matte black with the brushed bezel.
i didn't like the polished bezel on mine so i brushed it myself with scotch brite. It looks so much better and it looks just like the brushing on the case
Amazing video! These watches are on point and beautiful! I cannot decide which one I want to buy, I don’t like flashy timepieces and I’m hesitant between black dial, sunburst grey or blue... and what about the bezel, I’m not a huge fans of polished metal but as the top of the case is brushed here I think I would be in for a polished bezel... but not sure about it haha! Does it means that you can get this DressKX with the black dial and brushed bezel if you get the on strap version? It would be the SRPE67K1.
Is that right?
So happy I picked up the grey with bracelet :)
Drinking game: Take a tequila shot every time he says "but".
Cabo Wabo Reposado, please!
It could be great if you compared, side by side, these SRPE's with the SRPD's from the new seiko 5 sports line.
i want a gloss black dial with AR treated sapphire glass version of the dresskx. that would be perfect!
I really like and appreciate your low light transitional shots. It's really telling of how the piece looks in everyday conditions. I'm surprised other reviewers don't do this. And for a budget watch these are fantastic options.
I just got this watch a few days ago.. the bracelet kills it, feels very cheap. Hopefully they come out with a bracelet soon and a sapphire crystal. The watch itself is nice
Buy a better one fixed!
What brand Nato strap is that? I tried to find it & couldn't.
What after market nato do you all suggest for this watch? Thinking single pass would be ideal… or maybe same fabric style but with quick release vs nato…? Looking for suggestions.
Hamilton Nato, are the best.
If the 4R36 is bottom of the barrell, then thats where the flavour is because all the microbrands are using them or the NH35 equivalent.
This video resulted in a $275 charge on my MasterCard by Marc.
SRPE61 inbound.
Wow these dials are the best!
Brushed forever... black Dial forever...this Is my problem..
My wife gave me this Seiko for Xmas. I have timed it over 3 days and it looses 1 second per day, I wind it every night, even as an automatic, it cannt do any harm. My 1980s Seiko 5 looses abt 8 seconds per day, after 40 years and without any service ever. This precision must make the best known Swiss Made luxury brand blush. Because we have also two of those, I know. Here you dont pay for flashy advertisements in the international press und so called prestige, but sturdy precision and reliability and now with this modell IMO a very attractive, clean and modern look.
these are great looking seikos!
Just bought the blue spr53kk from long island watch can't wait to get it.
👍
"lemme pull this off camera for now (the spb143)"...sounds of watch being put back on wrist because its freaking amazing and it simply must stay on wrist. lol. I'm jealous.
Fantastic model, loving mine srpe57
I quite like the bracelet actually. I will be buying the watch tomorrow, got no idea if it will be the brushed or polished bezel, I guess whatever they’ve got but I will probably get a leather strap to just in case I want to try leather.
Just as an FYI, both Marc at Long Island watches and StrapCo have now come out with metal bracelet options for this model line
Think the grey is the one for me. Might have to paint the second hand white though, at least just the tip, as AVE would say.
whats the difference between srpe61k1 and srpe51k1?
I'm getting the gray one, total strap monster. I have many black faces.
Bought one when they were released last year. Great watches! Put mine on a Jubilee bracelet. Really dressed it up!
Great review!
This is my idea of clean. A lot of open space with minimal glare. Nowhere to hide mistakes.
Great watch just bought the one with the NATO strap.
I’ve just bought one only last week.
I’m very happy with it!

Hi! I just bought mine and I noticed that the rotor makes a subtle sound when it spins, is It normal? Is my first automatic, sorry for the dumb question
Not a dumb question and totally normal
I just got the 53 and it looks fantastic. The only issue I found with it is the gap between the crown and the case seems too wide. All of the pictures and videos I've seen of the watch it appears that there is really no gap so I assume mine has a quality control issue. Anyone else have this issue?
Thanks for the video, I just bought this as my first automatic watch and wanted to ask is it bad to wear it while playing sports like tennis? I've noticed if I shake it somewhat hard it can make the second hand go slower/faster by like 5 seconds. Is this normal?
i lied, it dosent add seconds
Whats the code of the Monta?
Love my Seiko 5 Sports in Gold Finish,Automatic Day Date,Bezel with minutes engraved on it,Keeps Great Precise timing, its 100m water resist,25 jewels, looks like a diving Gold watch, luminous dial,Absolutely Stunning for the Great Price of $Aud250/- who needs a Rolex,Patek and the rest of the pricy brands😊
is the bezel the only thing thats different? It looks like the brushing on the lugs is also a bit different. Please correct me if I'm wrong!
I really regret to buy it. Very inaccurate. I don't recommend
For those features such as : good size, good looking, day and date display, 100 m water resistant...made it a very decent piece, but you need to accept the +/-15 sec a day of the movement that offer and a easy scratch crystal from Seiko "Hardex"
😊
@@tantu2395 mine accuracy is 1 min per day
@@Leventgursoy11 😂that is terrible, you should refund it before the warranty run out!
Does anyone know why the green dial model is so hard to get in the USA? So far, I’ve only seen it on eBay from UK sellers.
It's a new release and stock is selling out very quickly
With the web you can buy all across the world I don't understand why ppl find it hard to buy overseas! I've bought watches from all over the world regardless off where they were released..
Love those seikos! Really gorgeous!
Great video! I love that nato! Can you give me the overall length of it? I don't like the fold over so prefer them on the shorter size. Thanks!
270mm or 10.6", so for me short enough not to worry about having to back fold, which is very nice.
@@AverageBros Awesome! Thank you, that's the sweet spot for me too.
Just bought one of these beauties. Swapped nato strap. Black strap looks great. Watch defiantly a strap monster! I'm getting incredible +6secs a day for this Seiko 5. For £200/£230 it's probably best value automatic. Sinn 556 gorgeous but £1185. Try one of these first can't loose..
If only seiko could just add a screw down crown for it smh
Is the SPDC "supposed" to have such poor integration of bracelet and transition to the case? It looks like the end links are from a different watch entirely. Is it meant to look shitty like a ViNtAgE wAtCh before manufacturers dialed in SELs?
I read that there’s a Japan model and China model. Is that correct? Could you guide me to purchase the correct one? What’s the difference? Quality? Workmanship?
I don‘t understand people‘s occasional gripes with the original Nato. It has the specific warm tint, depth and texture to complete the watches’ range of metallic hues and to provide some direly needed contrast and tool watch appeal. Plus it’s desirably thin. I consider it so carefully matched I am already anxious for a replacement in case mine wears out. Tropic looks just as nice though.
Funny you mention how the Speedmaster doesn't hack and is considered a "must have" by internet watch nerds but the Seiko 5 was derided for having a non-hacking non-hand winding movement. Somehow these WIS can hold completely contradictory stances when it comes to Swiss shitters versus the reality.
Is this the same as the one at long island? There is no made in japan logo for the one on the site.
I noticed there is difference in model name, srpe and sbsa for this seiko 5s
Yes they are the same. I got mine from Long Island
Can the bubble glass back be swapped out with something slimmer? I don’t like how it sits up off the wrist.
Can you get a strapcode angus jubilee for these??? Thanks
The most beautiful Seikos are those you can't buy. Tic tac versions.
I had an SNZF15 dive watch and ended up selling it because it was so bulky and HEAVY. I tried the SRPE61 on today it was way, way more comfortable. Might give Seiko another try :)
Yeah they look great but they have a little bubble on the back of the wash that makes it stick up too much and you know I think is they need to reduce that on the five models.
Praying for 38mm versions of these!
Just ordered the seiko with the grey strap then ordered the haveston grey nato
I’d like to see it with an arabic numerals face - could be quite the field watch.
I have a seiko 5 sportmatic from about 20 years ago. My father gave me as a gift.
Great review, love the new SRPE line, and I want to guess you said the world obviously... 17 times? Tee hee. Keep 'em coming.
Don't forget the green one!
Marc from Long Island watch is the man.
If only not that plastic thing around the dial...
like gray with polish bezel.Dress KX vary cool....
That black dial and polished bezel is 🤌🤌
Black looks a bit lifeless to me. How dark is the grey one?
I dont know what to choose srpe55 or orient kamasu 😂
What is the colour of the dial with the bracelet?
Pretty decent and nice simple watches.
Not for sale yet in Europe/the Netherlands ?
Where is the best place to buy these watches? Great video!!
Why do some not have the Made in Japan signage?
Does anyone know the difference between SRPE51 and SRPE61 apart from one with bracelet and one with strap?
The bracelet one is polished on top with brushed chamfered edge whereas the nato is vice versa
great perspectives on your video...I dig it. Great job.
Too confusing... Just get to the point.
Hey, where I can get these nice nato bracelets?
The real debate is SRPE51 vs SRPE55.
I ended up going with 55. Love it. But I bought it online so never got to see the 51 in person.
I’m currently comparing a SRPE53 and a SRPE63….and I’m at a loss. I cannot tell the difference.
What size is the haveston strap?
No misaligned bezel, amen
Seiko strap is better:)) i like the feel vs Seat belt style
some websites mention that the the SRPEs are 20mm lug width and some mention its 22mm. Which is the right one??
Yeah did you find out?
I really can't decide between the blue, grey or black. I might just get one of each lol. Love that strap you have the grey on. Excellent taste sir!
which one did you get?
Seiko automatic
👍👍👍
