I think one of the reasons this watch is appealing is I'm SO tired of Diver Watches and their bezels. I like a plain, clean, Bauhaus bezel like this one.

I love it. Don't care about the Hardlex Crystal, the bracelet or 'just' 100m WR. This watch can do anything with this specs and at this pricepoint I think this new addition to Seiko's portfolio is just awesome! The movement alone is a big step up due to it's advanced functions that the older 7S26's were always missing.
Very interesting how this became a completely different watch in terms of the look! I think this is one of the best '1-watch-collections' out there for beginners. It's sporty, it's versatile and it's elegant enough for those occassions where it's needed.
Thanks for showing this one Bruce!

Most people will never be able to afford a Black Bay 36/41 or Rolex Explorer, and this is a nice entry-level alternative.
I'm a bit tired of the skx crowd endlessly complaining that the new Seiko 5 line are not true skx replacements. Of course they are not, and they weren't intended to be -- they are designed to be stylish everyday watches that can still go in the swimming pool. Seiko is a business, and they're obviously getting out of the ultra-low budget ISO diver market. It's a decision that is probably paying off for them because the new Seiko 5s are selling very well.

THANK U! I was gonna say it if u didn’t. And for $200 how much more can u ask for? People are so obsessed with WR and act like u can’t swim with 100m WR. People swim all the time in their 50m WR Apple watches. If I go diving at some point in my life I’ll just take my watch off. Lol.

I actually fitted an even more rattly and flimsy jubilee to my old seiko 5 snk789. It's just ungodly comfortable. Meanwhile my SARX055 is always either loose or tight because it's not got any micro-adjustment... (If anyone would like to make a replacement bracelet for the 055 in titanium?)

Lipgi Tang I think many manufacturers and even enthusiasts forget about the comfort aspect of bracelets and straps. The flimsier bracelets, especially jubilees are often more flexible, and they are also lighter as they don’t have heavy milled clasps or chunky, solid links.

I recently picked up a San Martin 62MAS homage as a holiday beater. It has the Seiko NH35 movement, lumed ceramic bezel, domed sapphire crystal and 200m WR, and a bracelet that is better than any sub £500 Seiko bracelet I’ve come across. It cost £200, so less than this 5KX. They are doing Seiko better than Seiko.
Seiko just don’t offer value anymore, Hardlex is a fancy name for a cheap mineral crystal. Their bracelets are crap. They keep discontinuing all their best watches and replacing them with inferior versions. SKX > 5KX, old Alpinist better than new one, Sarb033/035 better than Presage.
This watch is ok but it’s nothing special and you’re not getting much bang for your buck compared to Seiko’s rivals at the same price point.

Thanks for the vid, love the review. Got myself a unit (JDM Ref SBSA041), took off a couple of links and the unit fits amazingly well on my 6.5" wrist. It's got a nice weight to it and plenty of looks, punching well above its weight. My Hulk is looking on with envy.

I like this one very much, and it is currently on my shortlist for the next purchase. However, I would much more appreciate the review if the watch was on its factory bracelet, or nylon band in the case of the model reviewed. About the watch itself...my only downside on the watch design is...MAYBE they should ditch the crown guards? I get all SKX-ish case shape craze, but since this is more grounded, field-oriented watch, maybe that kind of difference would actually be welcome? it would look more symmetrical despite its 4-o'clock crown, there's no doubt about it... Nevertheless, good and helpful review.

I have the blue dial version. The bracelet has folded rather than solid links, but they feel much more substantial than the typical Seiko 5 bracelets. If they didn't have an obvious seam, you could almost think they are solid. I'm not a big fan of crown guards. At the 4 o'clock position, though, it's not too bad.

I imagine, just as Seiko watches are made throughout Asia, the bracelets are too. I took the bracelet off mine because it pulled nearly every hair off my wrist. Others have had better luck..

Love it, bezeless looks superb! Very Tudoresqe. Would prefer it without the day/date (or date only at 6) not a fan of dates, but guess they add to the practicality for the forgetful folk. Cheers 👍🏻

I just don’t get why everyone has to have everything in one watch and if they’ve already attained a finer watch themselves it’s the only watch that they wear. There’s a time to wear every kind of watch from a this Seiko in a coffee shop of a Hamilton Khaki Field watch in your back yard, a Submariner on your boat and to restaurants or a Patek Grand Complications out to a special occasion. Over time a person could amass a few dozen watches some considered fine, some entry luxury and some that achieve excellence in the mainstream and it becomes not only a collection but a wardrobe.
It’s better than being one watch. All of your watches are your style.
    This is a great watch.

A good looking affordable everyday watch. But I would stretch the budget up to a Tissot Gentleman 80 Powermatic (silly name, I know) and get the extra anti magnetism and the longer power reserve. I don’t need the day indication, unless it says Rolex on the dial 😄

A 100 dollars bracelet (I guess) on a 200 dollars watch? Whatever, since Seiko raised the prices, do not put sapphire on 500 $ watches I'm done with seiko. The last watch I bought is a Spinnacker Bradner (new model, green dial) for under 200$ incl shipping at amazon sapphire, 200 m water resistant, real good leather band, unbranded seiko NH35 movement, fantastic look. If Seiko would sell a similar watch - minimum 500 $. Just for the brand? Not with me.

So delusional. Seiko makes great bracelets and straps. My Turtle and Sarb033 both have among the most comfortable bracelets I have owned (once an extension is added to the Sarb).
And the rubber strap that the SBP147 comes on is the single most comfortable rubber strap ever made. And I have tried everything. Isofranes are WAY to sticky and bulky. Hirsch are pinchy, hard, and don't flex. Aftermarket straps are always a tremendous disappointment compared to OEM.

Still a LOT of people complaining about the price point of this watch, thatbit should have this and that... well like they say.. you can't please everyone specialy snobs.. even if you give something for free still they will find issues to complain about.
ok... since this beautiful watch aesthetic is compared to Tudor 41, then lets see which one is the best for the value for money.
    Tudor bb41
Sapphire, screwdown crown, solid endlinks and links, water resistant 150m, stainless steel, ETA.. again.. ETA.. MOVEMENT WITH 38HR POWER RESERVE.
    for the price of $2,700
    Seiko Srpe51
Seiko's own hardlex crystal, robust hollow endlinks/links steel enough to last lifetime, non screwdown crown for 100m water resist, IN-HOUSE 4R36 calibre 41 HOUR POWER RESERVE
    for the Price $275
now what is price point for you? a tudor that cost $2,700.. you paid $700 for the watch and $2000 for the brand that is a baby brother of Rolex?
