Hi everybody! This is my first of what I hope will be a series of videos detailing my vast experience as a solo guitarist, or as I think of it , a cocktail guitarist, that title somehow seems to fit better... How vast? 30+ years and 7,500+ gigs... 4 DVD/books with Hal Leonard...

When I was a kid, a local pizza parlor had a Wurlitzer Pipe-Organ, and other venues had Electronic Organs. My dad was an Electronics Engineer and played mostly 1920s-40s Material on the Piano.
My guitar playing started as part of an attempt to master the rest of the Rhythm Section and to give an alternative to Organ/Keyboards in a small group (usually Duo) backing singers.

Thx, Jake for the insights! I especially like the fact that you do not talk derisive about playing "cocktail gigs". My band played a 14 years steady gig at a local hotel and I know that these gigs are in no way less "worth" than a "real" concert!

I've been playing for 50+ years, a decade or two in duos and trios at restaurants, etc. - not my full time gig. I always tell people that my dream is to be like those piano players who hold court in divey cocktail lounges, playing standards (and taking 38 choruses on Body and Soul!). I moved to a new location a few years ago but having trouble meeting others so I've been on a solo quest for a few years and I'm loving it. No solo gigs yet, but excited to hear more.

How would you go about approaching venues to get solo guitar gigs? And apologies if too personable or what not, but how would you go about pricing two 45 minute sets? I’ve got a solid 45 minute set at the moment and working on the second set before I approach anyone, but as I’m fairly new to solo guitar playing in public I wouldn’t want to sell myself too short.
