An amazing person on every level. There's a great doco on Netflix related to the making of We Are The World song, it shows how Stevie was able to coach Bob Dylan to find his voice for the song. He was also able to decouple the ego's of others in what was a stressful recording event. He's really a master class in humanity.
My hero and idol Stevie Wonder aka THE God of ALL Music. !!!
Oh man, I remember this song with fondness and the tears of a great teenage lost love...80's fashion, not so much. 😂 Although Stevie was rockin' the look.
beautiful
I loved Lately when I was a kid. Even now it stands up as a cleverly written song. Master Blaster and Superstition are other Stevie Wonder faves. He went bit sappy later on though.
I agree, I think this was probably the pinnacle of his career. Me personally, I think Superstition was his best, which charted woefully here at #95 ! Some of these record company promotion ideas really cost artists a lot of money.
I am not a super big Stevie Wonder fan, but I have the utmost respect for him and his musical ability. How can you not ? A quick cut and paste from Wikipedia ; " Wonder was born Stevland Hardaway Judkins in Saginaw, Michigan, on May 13, 1950, the third of five children born to Lula Mae Hardaway, and the second of Hardaway's two children with Calvin Judkins. He was born six weeks premature which, along with the oxygen-rich atmosphere in the hospital incubator, resulted in retinopathy of prematurity, a condition in which the growth of the eyes is aborted and causes the retinas to detach, so he became blind."
He was a child star and started singing at age 11, and in an era where black performers were predominantly only listened to by a black audience, he eventually became a household name. His 1980 album "Hotter Than July" was his nineteenth album and probably his most successful, with hits like this one, "Lately" (#17 in Australia) which was released as a single in January 1981, "Master Blaster" (#2 in Aus) and "Happy Birthday" (#31 in Aus) all doing well down under with the album itself going to #3 here as well.
Despite not being a big fan, I can actually remember this particular song being played at the local skating rink for the loved up "couples skate" where you worked up the courage to ask some hot Year 8 girl to skate and hold hands with you. Frightening stuff when you are 13 :). The performance is from the Don Lane show which screened on the 16th of March 1981. I believe Wonder was in Australia on tour promoting the album at the time. We used to get a lot of big name artists touring Australia in the 80's and appearing on local shows like this or Countdown.
As always, please LIKE, COMMENT, and SHARE my videos. Yes, I know it's not the official video (I don't think there actually is one, it was the third single released) but I am required to stretch the truth to even get a sniff at a search placement. I have done my best to get the audio as best as possible, obviously it cant be replaced as it is a live performance. Regardless, I wouldn't change it anyway as it shows his ability. Cheers, Austech
Do you want to tell us again how you’re not a fan🙄
@pinkchilldivestmentor I'm not......do you think I have to be to post a video of his ? I have posted over 1100 music videos, do you think I am a fan of every artist ?
Dude this is amazing. Thank you very much!
Depending on if there is any interest, he also performed Master Blaster on the show live with a big collection of musicians. If I get more than one person interested, I will consider also doing it.
They played it on rage a bit but that was a different show 1980
I love Master Blaster ❤
Yes Please That Be Awesome.
