    Do you feel the Series S will be obsolete sooner rather than later?

    • @carlito1777
      @carlito1777 2 года назад +7

      Nope. Series console are not using bcpack, SFS, direct ml, mesh shading and amd fidelity fx.
      All combined it is a plus 200% framerate on a game (at least).
      Sfs saves ram and ram amount is the weak point of SS vs OX.

    • @BusyDadGaming
      @BusyDadGaming  2 года назад +3

      FSR is available to use on Series games, but it'll depend on the devs if they want to. AMD will offer driver level support for FSR some time this year, which it'll be up to Microsoft to implement or not.
      Did you mean Series consoles are using, or haven't started using those features? Making sure to clarify as SFS is an option on Series consoles, but not sure if it is being used or not yet.

    • @carlito1777
      @carlito1777 2 года назад +4

      @@BusyDadGaming they are not using it yet; the only features that are currently used are vrs on 3 games and 1 or 2 games uses bcpack compression.
      No other features are already utilized.
      It will blow peoples mind when it will be used. Even the matrix does not use any of it.

      Was this the Seagate SSDs that are meant to be compatible, or a different external one, trying to work out if you can buy an external SSD from another manufacturer and still works with the quick resume etc?

    • @BusyDadGaming

      Quick Resume will only work with the internal storage and the Seagate expandable storage card. External USB SSDs it comes down to USB requirement, speed options, but they don't have to be from Seagate. If you want to see drives that are specifically for Xbox, there are drives that show Compatible with Xbox on the box. Don't have to, but something to look at as well.

    I’m a 32 year old dad with a 1 year old son, I work from home and I take online classes. I bought my Series S second hand for $200. I absolutely love it, with the game pass and how much time I realistically get to play. The series s is perfect for me. And I have 55” TCL 4K that the series s optimizes. So now I watch all of my streaming services on it. I do want to buy the sea gate memory…. Eventually, that price is to steep considering what I paid for the console. But it’s awesome, so far no complaints on my end I love it, worth the money and I get to play Next gen games on a pretty powerful little console.

    It's a solid next gen console. Microsoft knew exactly what they were doing. i think. It's a perfect game pass machine, it still plays older games and often times better than orginal hardware! I love the compact size too. It looks dope af in my tv stand and honestly a PS5 or series x would not look as good with my setup (that's not really a selling point tech wise but it's small enough comparatively that its something to consider if space is an issue)

      Very true. The S looks great! I have to admit when the X was revealed, I was underwhelmed at the design. Then the S was revealed! Wow! What an improvement! It fits in my TV stand so much better than the X. I did put a skin on my S. It looks similar to the Halo 5 XBOX Edition. Too bad MS didn’t come out with a Halo Infinite S edition. They still could and I wish they would but the skin I found does a good job.

    I see the Series S maintaining popularity throughout this generation. The reason.. its a crowd pleaser... Parents not wanting to spend out on the fully powered X version... It gets the job done well and with gamepass is a family friendly lounge console...
    I am a PC User but wanted a secondary device to play all the gamepass titles not on PC, some sofa co-op and get my kids involved with Minecraft etc... I didn't want to pay next Gen prices just to fill that void when I already own a powerful PC.
    That's why the S is such a winner.. It appeals to a wide audience for different reasons... I love mine... but the kids love it even more 😆

    I will says this the series s is hands down a great buy. You get nex gen console for a relative cheap price. I upgraded from a base Xbox one to the series s and was blown away with how well this console performs. I gave a test on certain games to see if I could notice a difference in the performance and looks of it. Imo it's ran 100 times better than the base Xbox one. I I tried gtav on it was blown away with how fast the game loads. It took literally seconds compared to minutes to load it. I tried red dead two and it's look better than before and ran better. I'm still on the same TV as when I had the Xbox one and noticed a difference right away. No man's sky ran exceptionally better on it and was kinda bad on base Xbox one. Imo it's a great system minus the small storage space but I can work with it and I don't think it will be obselete any time soon but I will upgrade to the series x one day when they become more available

      Upgrading from the OG Xbox One to a Series S will be pretty jarring. It's a pretty big jump between the two consoles. It isn't as drastic moving from the Series S to the Series X in the same way, but you will see better framerates.

    As much as it is financially painful, I got the Seagate drive which gave it a much-needed life boost to it -especially because of Gamepass. Although I own a Series X, which is connected to a 75" 4K, I find myself playing the Series S on a gaming chair on a monitor (1440p, 144Hz). While I also use my PC, I still find it easier to just pick up and start playing with the S. I also agree that game streaming may be a game-changer. Only time will tell.

  • @parthibanspace

    If Devs could make sure their games run at a locked 60fps in Series S throughout the console's lifetime, even if that meant the resolution dips a little below 1080p, then Series S is really worth it. But with the recent game DyingLight2 running at only 1080p30 on Series S, that doesn't seem to be happening(Maybe, that's because the developer didn't try to optimise it for current gen consoles as they were also developing for last gen consoles. Whatever!)

    • @BusyDadGaming
      @BusyDadGaming  2 года назад +2

      Yeah, I wasn't a fan of how poorly optimized the Series S version was of Dying Light 2. One of the devs said it was the GPU that was holding them back, and then proceeded to get lambasted for the comment since we've already seen more demanding games hit 1080/60 already.
      As you mentioned, I'm sure they switch mid-cycle to make this game a cross-gen game rather than a last-gen game and as a result, didn't have enough time/expertise to get it running where it needed to be. Hell, even the Series X version on Quality and RT modes are pretty low resolutions and stuck at 30hz.

    • @BusyDadGaming

      I'm glad they are upgrading games to use 60fps. Devs that don't hit that on Series S really comes down to a lack of optimization. As we see the cross-gen timeframe lapse, we'll see what the Series S is really capable of.

    No! One reason is MS’s movement to Cloud based gaming which is independent of any specific equipment. In fact, it may be that the SX and SS are the end of the line for consoles. As I understand it Cloud gaming will use your phone, tablet, console, desktop computer, laptop, etc. to play the game without having to download it. That list also includes Apple hardware as well.

      Cloud gaming is def a great way forward, but it'll take quite a while to get the latency under control. It's decent for anything non-twitch based, but def has a ways to go. Considering that they are still making Xbox one games in 2022 and 2023, I cannot see the series S been left behind this year. In the latter of the fact, I eventually see both Sony and Microsoft going full digital within the next generation or two. Perhaps with the option to the consumer to buy a separate portable disk drive that is adaptable to either format.
    And to double down with you on the bundles, that’s more common place with a lot of retailers as well. For example, GameStop. Now the series S has a pretty much escaped the grasp of the scalpers finally. They have calm down with that system and it’s readily available on store shelves in most areas. But as for the series X and the PS5, they have this way of packaging these systems in bundles because apparently scalpers do not like bundles. GameStop constantly changes these bundles out, and the fluctuation of the value changes constantly. So it actually screws up the numbers for the scalpers and their automated systems and robot moderators. This past month, they released the PlayStation 5 with Call Of Duty: Vanguard and an extra controller. The series X, they released with a second controller, 3 Months of Game Pass Ultimate, and a $50 GameStop gift card. And of course, they are doing the same treatment with the series S, two controllers and a gift card for $50. But they are also extending the 3 months of game pass ultimate to 6 months eventually. Makes a little bit of sense, since you get everything digital I don’t have a disc drive to keep playing with.

    To make a proper analysis on the performance of the Series S we need to see next gen only games for the Series X and S, because at the moment with these cross gen games it's too hard to tell. From what I've seen, it's a neat little machine and decent for the price, but you get what you pay for. A lot of games won't even run at 60fps which in my opinion is unacceptable for this generation. Now, whether that's a fault of the developer or the console itself, I'm not entirely sure, but the fact that those same games run at 60fps on the Series X says it's most probably the hardware. Digital Foundry have shown many videos comparing the differences between the two and it does fall flat in a lot of games, but again, these are cross gen games so lets wait and see how it performs with newer ones.

    • @BusyDadGaming
      @BusyDadGaming  2 года назад +1

      I agree, we'll start to see what the box is really capable of once cross-gen is no longer a thing and advanced dev toolsets are more readily used (SFS, FSR, etc.). As it stands today, a lot of it comes down to the devs either not optimizing (which to be fair, that's a lot of hardware to optimize for), or didn't have enough time (and usually both).

    Consumers need educating. Reading is a huge factor in determining your buying decisions. MS and gaming development is driving towards cloud gaming. The S forces players to stay subscribed to Ultimate game pass.
    THINK of your internet modem. YOUR internet service provider gives you a modem. They charge you monthly fees. YOU justify your investment by consuming ample amounts of content, buying movies, subscribing to more TV channels etc.
    The S is the hub to satisfy your needs to stay distracted, you might keep a couple of games on board, but have the freedom to explore many more games in the cloud without the need to think about storage.
    The X still has a disc drive because they want to keep earning revenue from hard copies of titles still out there as it equals royalties to developers. THE option of backwards compatibility is their way to remain sustainable.
    Planned obsolescence is a real thing. But I think this should be more a conversation about forcing people to keep buying new consoles. With all the advancements in chips and motherboards. Why can't consumers be encouraged to keep their consoles pristine, so when it comes time to upgrade, MS will install a new motherboard and I/Os to current Gen specs?
    New industrial design for new consoles are exciting when they are these limited editions, made in smal quantities and dor novelty. That's cute. But even the X can adopt modularity easily. If all these are, are hubs to access cloud games anyways what does it matter ?

    • @BusyDadGaming
      @BusyDadGaming  2 года назад

      Makes sense and it'll be interesting to see if we do see a console refresh mid-gen like we did last time. I'm sure MS wants to delineate between PC and Console and making it that modular could be a challenge and potentially eat into each other. That may be something that AMD/Nvidia (depending on who provides the graphics) wouldn't agree to. A lot of nuances and some great points made.

Last Nintendo was Wii. Currently have a PS4 with many disc games so I am still planning on PS5 at some point. I would have gotten the S but I ultimately just chose the Switch Lite to tide me over for awhile. I feel like between my PS4 and the series S, I'm not missing much besides frame rate and that's not enough for me to justify buying an Xbox. But there's definitely a market for it and it shows. No chance will the XBSS outsell the XBSX if both were side by side in shops with unlimited stock. The buyer will save up more or extend one's budget to scoop the big brother console simply down to it's future proofing hardware and upcoming games that will need to compete against the hardware of the PS5. Gamers that have purchased the XBSS have done so because they are no XBSX on the selves. It's not a bad purchase at all and priced perfectly, but answer this - would you still get a XBSS if Game Pass wasn't there to utilise on a monthly basis? That's the saving grace for it in my opinion.

    • @BusyDadGaming
      @BusyDadGaming  2 года назад +1

      MS stopped talking about console sales a long time ago, but I bet the One S actually outsold the other versions of the Xbox One era. I have zero stats about that, but that's what I gather reading analysts and various other things.
      Mainstream audiences typically don't think about future proofing (54% of the U.S. doesn't have a 4K TV and only upgrade every 8 to 10 years). With the Series S being able to stream Series X shards also creates more opportunity for that audience segment to increase the time they can keep their consoles.
      I do agree that if it weren't for Game Pass, the Series S wouldn't be as valuable as it was.

    If the new Call of duty has a 120 frames per second mode there's no excuse for any developer not to be able to run their game at 60 frames per second on the series s. Namely elden ring at 30 FPS. Dying Light 2 at 30 frames per second. Cyberpunk 30fps. This is clearly a developer issue not a hardware issue. There is an extra console on the market and instead of releasing games that utilize that hardware they release their PC build to the Xbox series X and PS5 the series s ends up getting backwards compatibility from the older console versions. LET ME GIVE SOME LIGHT ON THIS SUBJECT! What do 12 teraflops do (Series X) compared to 4 teraflops do (Series S)??? The best way to describe this would be how the end results look on a screen, and not just any screen. If you want to get the best bang for the Series S and take the most advantage of this console, then go for a 1080P 144Hz 24/27 inches gaming monitor, so why do I mention that, well it comes down to native resolution! Since the Series S in its current state is a lot closer to 1080P over 1440P, and running on a 1080P 144Hz gaming monitor, you can now enjoy some games running at 120 Hz! also, since its running at native resolution, the graphics will look tac sharp (like a Series X at 4K), and you don't need a Series X for this kind of setup! At 4K, unless you have a high-end upscaling solution, the Series S may appear a bit more pixilated at 4K (softer), and that is since it is not running at its native resolution. Did you know that 1080P at 24 inches has a pixel density of 92 dots per inch, while a 55-inch 4K TV has 80 dots per inch! In terms of visible pixels, for its size, the 24 inches will look sharper over the 4K at 55 inches! More so, the Series S games are small in size than the Series X games, since they are not using 4K assets! So this is how you make the best out of the Series S, and enjoy 120 Hz playing COD Vanguard without needing a Series X and a TV that has HDMI 2.1, and can imagine the total cost of that! If you do it right, you can enjoy some beautiful image quality for the Series S!

Without ray tracing it will hold up for a while for 60+ fps. I am expecting a new console in 2 years time around like it was on Xbox One / Xbox One X era. I think Microsoft will support Series s to certain degree while Series x will be the main focus. Series s is a cheaper option less storage etc. A big thing is that nobody wants small storage these days and Series s has less.
    Some say its a waste of money due to games having over a 100gb 8nstal or even more
    There wasn't much difference between Xbox 9ne and the Xbox one x other than storage size. Xbox one x was smaller and felt better quality. Most gamers have blu ray discs for movies and TV shows so they don't want xbox series s. 4k gaming is what gamers want while S doesn't do 4k. It'll put gamers off.
    I bought Xbox series X because its 4k gam8ng 4k movies discs and 1TB as I wasn't going to get Series s.
    Series S would he good in a world where everything is getting more expensive due to currant world troubles and food sky high prices and sky high energy bills. I can see Series s being phased out with a new model being more attractive to buyers. A new model with 2TB storage would be ideal.

      What kills the series s is there only 312 gigs of usable space. Warzone and modern warfare are 300 gigs itself. So that one game will take up whole ssd.
      And i know some people are like well connect a USB drive for extra storage. But if you do that you lose all those fast load times cuz usb ports don't support that fast transfer speeds. So at that point your back to your Xbox one load times.

    As we know the series s started with a shotgun pointed at it's feet , thanks to the backward compatibility with a concession simulator that is the xbox one /one s.
    Really, the base xbox one tarnished the xbox image.
    And we can definitely feel the consequences even to this day .
    The gamepassfor example, every game which hasn't been optimized for the series s will run the xbox one code of the games .
    So the series s goes with the xbox one and the gamepass is less attractive due to the backward compatibility.
    The xbox one s is hurting the series s .
    Even if the experience is snapy and more stable on series s .

    If gamers are too stupid to not see that game streaming is the trojan horse to them "owning" playing whatever game they have paid for whenever they want, they deserve what they are going to get.
    As for the Xbox Series S, it will become the Xbox 360 to the Xbone when the next generation comes.
