Hi Nina, before acclimatising I repotted my first hibikki after chopping off a good amount of roots and removing all slow release fertiliser embedded in the pot. .The plant gasping for life produced ke kies and in the continuos rain almost died. I gave myself an auto suggestion that I should not be stupid anymore and repotted the second hibikki I procured from a rare orchid collector in our state. Even though she recommended division , opted not to divide and repotted as one plant.. The second one growing steadily and vigorously. Learning from stupid mistakes and over confidence. The video is highly useful Nina. Muchas gracias amiga.
Jose, hi 😍💐 amigo! Como estas? 🤗 I am sooo happy that you at least have some keikis from your first Hibiki 👍🏼 They will be fine and your orchid will live on through them. The second one sounds wonderful and I agree with you, dividing while the orchid is getting used to it's new home is not a nice welcome. You did the right thing and are being rewarded for it. 👍🏼 wishing that you get blooms from it soon! Thank YOU so much for watching, amigo mio 🤗 I hope that you are doing well and enjoying your beautiful garden! It was soooo good to see your name in the live on Sunday 😍 wishing you a great Wednesday 🥰🌸
Haven’t been around lately had my handicaps in home for a week so I didn’t watch any videos but this one was a very interesting one thank you I’m back again
Andrea, 😍💐hi! I was hoping that you were busy with Christmas preparations and having a great time. Which is something this season brings along with it... so, thank you so very much for taking the time to watch the videos back. I appreciate your feedback, Andrea, thank you so much 🙏🏼❤️🌸
🌸🥷🏼Sharon San 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼♀️🥰💐 hi! I was 'circling' this orchid for months, knowing that I had to go in and clean her up... planning a strategy because I knew that the root system would be destroyed. So, when I got into the pot I was well pleased that the 'plan' worked out and the main root ball was not trashed too much 👍🏼 now, unfortunately there is a blank space in the back of both pieces because of the semi circular growth habit of this orchid. At least for the next 12 months. Maybe I will snip the rhizome while it is in the pot at a later stage and see if I can't get it activate in the back. Today, these 2 pieces are outside in full sun just to keep their growths from stalling. The rest of the collection is indoors despite some sun outside. It is too cold when the clouds come. Hope your Tuesday was nothing short of fabulous, 🌸🥷🏼! Thank you so much for watching ❤️ have a lovely evening ❤️🌸
😍Blais, hi 💐 can't wait for you to have your own Hibiki either!! 🥳 I hope that you will let me know when you have one so that we can do cartwheels around the patio, together 🤸🏼♀️😅 thank you for also watching this video, I really appreciate it 🤗🌸
Hi 😍💐 I really loved this project and am glad that nothing was out of focus on this video 😆 so kind of you to watch it. AND to share it to Twitter 🙏🏼🙌🏼🙏🏼 Thank YOU so very much! I hope that you are having a great day 🫶🏼❤️🌸
A great tutorial video as usual! I have mentioned before that Hibiki is one of my favorite orchids and last April at an orchid show I finally got a really good plant. It was in bloom and had two new growths starting. After a few weeks I transitioned it to LECA (it never missed a beat) and from June through September it lived outside and grew and bloomed and grew and bloomed! This one just might be the one to make it (it is my third try) but I have learned so much from you since procuring it I feel more confident than ever! And Hibiki is STILL blooming much to my delight; there are three new tiny growths starting too! The real test will be to see how it survives the Winter and early Spring in my home.🤞🏻 Can’t wait until my Hibiki is too large for its pot and I have to divide it like yours. Thanks, Nina, for your informative videos; I want to be a better orchid grower and you have shared many tools to help me achieve my goal! May God bless you during this beautiful Christmas season! I’m staying safe-hope you are too! 💗💜🧡💚
Hi Barbara 😍💐 so good to see you again! I hope that you are doing well 🤗 By the sounds of it your Hibiki is The One 🥳 finally!! Their blooms do last an incredible amount of time and they really are a joy every time we look at them. Mine did not last as long this time around and I am hoping that this repot and clean up will be a good thing and restore the longevity of the blooms. 🤞🏼 Even during the terrible weather, I am risking her being outside because she needs some light to keep her momentum going after the intervention. She got some rain today... its a little dicey considering the temperatures are so low, and its dark, but... its a dendrobium, so that adds to the decision making process. Thank YOU so much for your kindness, for your support, watching my videos, your informative and engaging comments, Barbara!! Thank YOU! I receive your Christmas message and wish you exactly the same 🙏🏼 Blessings, peace and joy to you and your loved ones ❤️🌸
Desire 😍 hi! 💐 thank you so much for your time and your positive feedback! You are so appreciated 🙏🏼 Hope that you are having a good day, my friend!! Thinking of you ❤️🌸
Thanks for sharing your hibiki. It is a beauty. I killed my first little one. I have another slightly bigger one. I hope it grows and needs dividing one day. Enjoy!
Sue, hi 🤩💐 it is good to see you again! Hope that you are doing well 😃 I hope that your Hibiki 2.0 will make you a very happy owner soon 🥰 I have heard from many viewers that Hibiki seems to be a difficult one to get going if the orchid is not already advanced in age. I am glad that I have caught a lucky break with mine, which came as a blooming size. Really hope that your larger one gets it's grow on 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching, Sue! It really is good to see you again. 😃🌸
🦒🙋♀🙌❤️ The multiplication of hibikis, you had one and now you have two 😃 Twice the show next summer. Mine is only one in the pot and so I hope I don't have to be as radical. But we never know 😄 Hope you are having a good rest tonight, not too much rain.We are having deluges down south, mainly Algarve. First the north and now south 😏 We danced for the rain to come and now we have to dance again to make it stop 🙄 Much love and best wishes for the day ❤️❤️❤️❤️
FFF 😍🙌🏼🥰💐 good afternoon, meine liebe Freundin!! I did not have the courage the last time I took her out of her pot, she appeared to be one orchid back then. I am so glad that I had a clear path this time around, because, time was of essence on that day of filming. I had to do it, and ideally without too many curve balls in the process. I got lucky and I am happy that the months of looking at the orchid and planning a strategy, worked out smoothly enough that the main root systems on both pieces weren't destroyed too much 🙏🏼👍🏼 Marbella was flooded last night. My daughter's business was inundated and the water was coming in from all sides, even through the ceiling from the roof top terrace. Luckily all the dams are empty, so there was no overspill into the rivers... there is more rain coming and those dams need to fill up. I am glad that it rained the way it did, but stay outside, please 🤪 The dams have to saturate before they even fill up. The situation was getting really bad... this will not even saturate the ground. Maybe the next downpours will and then we hope they will fill up. I feel bad for people coming to our countries this time of year, wanting nice weather etc etc 😬 today is a public holiday here and I thought I could get some peace and quiet, but nope, the construction workers are still at it. Incredible. I mean, the person getting the extension built is happy but... hey!! Its a public holiday! 🤨 thank you so much for watching, amiga mia!! I so appreciate your time and your support 🙏🏼 hope that your day is beautiful and sparkling ❤️🌸
I just got a Hibiki, and the available advice on watering is all over the place. Some say let it get dry between waterings, others say it always needs to be moist. I watched your other Hibiki video, and seems like you keep it always moist. So I'm going with that! It will be a departure from all the other orchids, which get pretty dry in between. All my orchids are kept inside.
😍Hi Christiane 💐 it is so good to see you again! I hope that you are doing well 🫶🏼 the advice about watering requirments for this orchid is so varied because it can be grown in so many different ways. However, to deny a vigorous orchid that holds on to blooms for 5 months at a minimum, which then starts new growths again while still in bloom, makes the drying out way of growing risky. This orchid is a continuous grower under ideal conditions. It does not have a winter rest, so just like with an oncidium hybrid with fine roots, or a prosthechea species that grows new growths while in bloom, this orchid requires the help continuously in order to perform. Its a wonderful orchid, I love mine so much, sooooo congratulations on sourcing a Hibiki and welcome to the club of Hibiki aficionados 🤪 this orchid is amazing! 🥳 thank you so much for watching, lovely lady! I hope you had a wonderful Monday and thank you so much for watching 🫶🏼❤️🌸
HI Christiane! 😍 I am sorry to trouble you, but I have a viewer who is really wanting a Dendrobium Hibiki but cannot find one. I remembered you just acquired one and wanted to ask you if you would be so kind as to let me know where you got your's. I am assuming you are in the USA 😬 not sure if this is the right thing to do, but I would like to pass on the information if you don't mind letting me know! Thank you so much 🫶🏼 hope you are having a great day ❤️
@@NinjaOrchids Yes, I am in the US, and last time I checked there were two vendors on Etsy that have Hibikis. She should check there. I bought two (one for a gift to my BFF, who got me hooked on orchids!!), and both Moonlight Mile Orchids and Everything Orchids sent really nice healthy, small, Hibikis. Don't know how long it will be before they bloom, but my budget requires that, and as long as they are healthy, I get to stare at them every day, encouraging them to grow! LOL. EBay sometimes has the same sellers on there. Hope you are doing well! I'll just add there that there seems to be other type orchids that look a lot like hibikis (maybe the parents used to hybridize?), but you are the orchid expert, not me - I just buy pink, white, and green for the beautiful blooms.

HI 😍💐 it took a while to get through, but with time and patience, this is the best way to go about getting more Hibiki pieces to spread around. And the blooming of the 2 pieces this year, shows that this orchid is not a diva. Something I welcome with any orchid 😅 thank you so much for watching 🫶🏼❤️🌸
👍🏼💖 I’ll save this in my pocket for when I need to divide an orchid! Your hunch was right. It looks like the two pieces weren’t connected by a rhizome? They seemed to separate easily!
&yLand 😍💐 hi! There were in actual fact 2 pieces, yes... my thumb did not come up against a rhizome. Good stuff, because it was getting late and the cinnamon drying out a cut phase would not have worked too well. Happy to have gotten this done. The last time I touched this orchid, I had no way of 'getting into the middle', the pieces were too tight, I thought it was one. Glad that 2 years later, I could see where to go through. Really appreciate you watching, &yLand! It is always good to see you ❤️ Have a fabulous day 🌸
🦇😍💐 hi! There is no real sense of urgency with your Hibikis... they have it comfy cozy and with that, they are livin' la vida. I did not want to wait another full season to do this. IF the pieces decide to bloom, then I don't want to be dealing with a second flush of new growths yada yada yada. Glad I got this done. If no other orchids go outside to enjoy sun / cloud / sun / cloud, these 2 go out. Don't want the growths to stop. 🤞🏼 I will sing a little song for Drake!! 🥳🥰 fun times ❤️ thank you so much for watching, Robert! You are so appreciated ❤️ hope the rest of your day is going to be fabulous 🌸
oooohhhh!!! Ya had me fooled 😬 well, I gots me one of those as well. My c. intermedia! That one will be attacked next year. There are 2 in the pot and they need to come apart OR get a bigger pot. The bifoliate vibe stopped me from doing it 2 years ago. More structures needed to get the job done safely 🤞🏼 (that is the plan anyway) 😅
Hi again Nina, I've only had mine for a few weeks so it was good to see how they grow and when they produce more roots. Mine came with loads of 'aerial roots' so after a period of acclimatisation I repotted and tucked most of them down in the media. I didn't realise that some of the growths were new and I must have buried too deep as the 4 new growths rotted. I scraped surface media away and the older hardier growths seem OK now but I expect I won't get any more now for a year or so 😪. Perhaps I should left all the roots above the surface stay out? But yours and others I had seen didn't have roots outside of the pot 🤷♀️
Hi Carole 🥰💐 Dendrobiums are pretty resilient and you may get another growth or 2 come even though the other ones did not make it. 🤞🏼 depends how far along the new growths were. Or maybe not... methinks that at least one, if not 2 new growths will grow. You see the size of the pieces that I have 'only' produced 3 new growths each, so, if you had 4 then that is a vigorous Hibiki and it should do ok. I hope that I am right. With good light and some warmth.... give it a little seaweed, but not too much. The seaweed will keep those growth hormones active and hopefully get the hint as to what you want it to do. 👍🏼 Aerial roots are common on Hibiki when they come from a high humidity environment. The way a Hibiki is potted up after it has arrived in a collection with the base low to the media also encourages roots to grow toward the humidity in the pot, as opposed to up in the air. Mine did not come with aerial roots... meanwhile, it came with no roots, so there is that 😬 I hope that this reply has some insights that will help and not confuse! Thank you so much for watching, Carole! I appreciate your support very much 🙏🏼 hope your day was fabulous 🌸
My Hibiki looks a hot mess after repotting it. The roots still look good but it is producing some really really badly accordioned leaves. I guess I will have to water it a little more frequently for the time being. And while I will be waiting another year for blooms, probably, you will have two pots of blooms next summer.
Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe!! I am hoping that this will still produce blooms next year, but... it may produce some keikis again. Seeing a they were separate plants, maybe I will get lucky. They are the only ones outside from the indoor gaggle, at the moment. I do not want those new growths to stall. It is nice when the sun comes out, but too chilly for the others when the clouds come. I just don't want the new growths to stall by keeping them inside when I get some sun coming through. We shall see. I got a good root system on both pieces, enough canes for the new growths to pull from. Maybe I will get lucky and none of them sulk 👍🏼 semi circular growth annoys me though 🙄 hope your day is off to a great start, amigo!! Keep them cookies coming 👨🏻🍳❤️ and thank you so much for watching!! 🌸
I have 3or4 new growths on my hibiki. Mine isn't very big and I don't think I need to do any dividing mine at all. If you where to divide the one on the left side into two that's how big mine is.
HI Sandie 🥰💐 3 or 4 new growths is fabulous news, Sandie! It may not be very big now, but that will not be the case for very long, apparently 😃 Sounds like your's is getting the grow on... whooohooo!! 🥳 thank you so much for watching, lovely lady!! I hope that you had a fabulous day ❤️🌸
No we are - 34°c here I went outside to grab some wood for out wood stove and we will have to fill the box up tomorrow in the light. Too darn cold and dark to fill it up now. 3 pretty big peices will have to do for this evening.

I have 3or4 new growths on my hibiki. Mine isn't very big and I don't think I need to do any dividing mine at all. If you where to divide the one on the left side into two that's how big mine is.

No we are - 34°c here I went outside to grab some wood for out wood stove and we will have to fill the box up tomorrow in the light. Too darn cold and dark to fill it up now. 3 pretty big peices will have to do for this evening.
