Just when I was gathering my senses from this terrific version of California Dreaming, the man chose to finish me with an unplugged version of Across 100th Street.Just play that to whoever asks you what is soul music!
I had a dear friend, in DC, John who is now passed. We both worked at the Washington Hospital Center. He and another friend at work, Bernadette, expanded my love for this era of music and everytime I hear Bobby sing, John is alive again and I can hear him joking and laughing one more time.
I grew up w/Bobby Womack playing in our house, yet I didn't HEAR him until I watched UnSung this past week (for about 5 times) 30 something years later - this man's voice is AMAZING and his talents are truly amazing. I feel stupid having 'slept' on him for long. Now I cannot get enough. Thanks for sharing :-)
the man has NEVER made a bad record in his life. seen him twice and still get goosebumps when i hear his voice. he's got the best voice on the planet bar none.if you want someone to get into soul music, stick a bw track on, enough said!
I'm so sadden at this time it feel like. I lost a family member Bobby Womack, was my idol. I grew up in the same era as Bobby, he was born in 1944. I in 1947, So we had so much in common when it came down to our taste in music. I can remember at 14 yrs. I thought that. I was in love but when. I heard Mr. Bobby Womack, sang his love melodies songs, Like "IF YOU THINK YOU LONELY NOW" That made me think is this boy really worth my time cause. I really was In love at least I thought. I was just like if it was yesterday I still feel all of these years, listening too Bobby's music Has made me appreciate the real meaning of love. I like to extend my condolence too his family, may God, keep YOU Strong and know that you're not alone. R.I.P MR. BOBBY D WOMACK ♡♡♡☆
The day this man passed away, the song. California dreaming was playing in my head and the rain was falling down on me while the sun and blue skies were clear. I think he knew how much I appreciate his music for that to happen to me! At the time I didn't know he passed until the next day!
Thanks! This is feel good music at it's finest. Bobby is a soul gem. You can here his struggle and triumphs in his voice. I also here a little James Brown inspiration.
man ist das eine stimme.großer musiker und songschreiber.110th street ist meiner meinung nach einer der besten filme aus den siebzigern, mit einem grandiosen anthony quinn.toller song, toller film und die beste stimme die es gibt.
Bobby is one of our unsung heroes. He's an original, there is no one else with a voice like that. Right handed upside down. That's right. Jimi Hendrix played upside down left handed. Upside down guitar is not easy. You go, Bobby Womack!!! I love him.
So rad...Bass strings on the bottom...like Dick Dale and Albert King. Like the cover of Cali Dreamin....but it is EPIC to hear him play and sing Across 110th Street.
@@michaelb2388 My statement was clearly hyperbolic, but then you come with Pavarotti and Mercury? Pavarotti isn't even the best of the three tenors, and anyone who has listened to Caruso and Bjoring (who your boy emulated), wouldn't dare to put him above them. Are your choices the most well known "performers?" Yes, but very very few would put Mercury's voice, just voice over the likes of Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, and Otis Redding. I love Freddie Mercury, and as a showman, he may be the only one to rival Prince and Bowie, but best singer? Nah, I'll take my choices and about a dozen others over them. Have you heard of John Lennon or Al Green? Roger Daltrey or Barry White?
Bobby is a legend. I could listen to his voice forever. I think I might possibly like his version of 'California Dreaming' as much as, if not more than, the original.
His voice has deteriorated so much over the years, listening to this,...this is about the worst Ive ever heard it. He lost all that power and strong soulful emotion in his voice. He is a shell of his former self. If u listen to his records from the 60s and 70s u know what I mean. My favorite album by him, is "Facts of Life" 1973. That is some of the best rhythm and blues soul music I ever heard and Ive heard a lot. Pure soul ,music.
On this date in 1966 {February 19th} the Mamas & Papas performed "California Dreamin'" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand' One month earlier on January 8th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #4 and spent 17 weeks on the Top 100 It reached #23 in the U.K. Two covered versions have charted; Bobby Womack {#43 in 1969} and America {#56 in 1979} R.I.P. Ms. Elliot {1941 - 1974}, Mr. Phillips {1935 - 2001}, Mr. Doherty {1940 - 2007}, & Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}
Best version of California Dreaming by FAR

Bobby Womack is the man. What a voice.

110th street - WOW can NEVER EVER get sick of this - esp the original. rough, urban, true, poiginant and a street tune. EVERGREEN!!!!
You was my man Bobby one of the best old school singers. I love your music & I'm just 33 yrs old. RIP....:-(
Sing to us Bobby, there will never be another voice like yours!!
Love you Bobby one of if not the baddest soul singers and writer of all time
What a touching performance by one of the all time greats! R.I.P. Bobby!
Such a beautiful song ! Classic
Playing left handed with a guitar stringed the opposite way… deciphering his chords, pitch perfect singing … such a under rated talent.
Who says BW was underrated!
There is not a better version of this famous song... He was the best and his voice was so deep, so sexy, so black...

Outstanding...mind blowing
A pitch perfect lesson in vocal range and unplugged acoustic performance, the best I’ve seen
Bobby Womack and Johnny Cash are the two best male singers ever. Come at me!
Yeah Bobby Womak and Johnny Cash are much better than Pavarotti or Freddy Mercury
