Hey everybody. I appreciate all the positive words. I have actually been blessed to turn out half decent. And ive overcane alot.
I do have my drug issue wich is actually pretty new to me. I had a house fire followed by a theft and it flipped my life upside down and I had to stay with family and I dealt with my issues the wrong way and done some heroin which like I said i got from my mom when I had a toothache. But I dont have the desire to continue on the drugs and ive tried to quit 5 times recently and failed. But im gonna do what it takes to quit this shit

I hope you make it off drugs, brother. Or if not, I hope you can manage your habit to the point that you can keep living a good life. Personally I think all drugs should be legal and available and the government should stay out of it. I'm from Indiana and drugs are huge here....but from what I've seen, the drugs only become a problem when they run out. When people have access to the drugs they want, they seem happy and productive in a lot of cases. Their lives only get bad when they run out of drugs and get sick and desperate. They're fine when they've got what they need. Suboxone is a perfect example. Good luck man, your video was cool and I enjoyed it a lot.

UPDATE: Dusty is no longer teaching!! A small victory. Now, he needs to be put in a jail cell.
Dusty Grubb of North Laurel Middle School is the youth pastor/teacher Matthew is referring to in this video. He was my sixth grade algebra teacher. My good friend at the time’s sister always told us to NEVER let anyone or yourself be alone with him in a room. She said he got into some trouble in 2011 due to allegations. He was allowed to keep teaching and still is today.
We knew from the beginning he was beyond sickening and all of us knew something was up. There’s a lot of people right now coming forward (again) because of this video. Thank you for sharing your story, Matthew.

I’m not saying that people don’t lie about abuse but it’s better to investigate than come to a conclusion saying they are not guilty without investigating. Criminals (neighbors, family members, pastors ect. We walk amongst these terrible people. Many have to stop categorizing a certain group and say they are pedophiles/criminals. I’m not trying to be rude and everyone has a different opinion. But I’m tired of people putting a label in certain groups/race/religion. Our little town was kind of the "hub", and all the kids from surrounding towns came to mine by bus to go to school and such. Almost everyone I grew up that didn't leave is either dead or deep into addiction.. I know of a single person that didn't leave and didn't get caught up. Those principals were probably supplying that "pastor" with his victims. I am infuriated!!! I have always been distrustful of any grown man, or woman, that seems obsessed with kids!

Thats EXACTLY what I was thinking too! They won't report it a) because they know theyre the lowest, most cowardly excuse for 'human beings' on the face of the earth, and b) they'd end up implicating themselves too, if they did report it. Im sure they're also painfully aware of the fate that awaits them in jail if they do get caught.

I have been following your channel for a while mark and the Appalachian videos have been really hitting home for me lately. I am from right outside of clay county,Kentucky, but recently moved to Baltimore Maryland and it really took me moving here to really realize the type of struggles that Appalachian people face compared to other places and how little it’s talked about. Here everywhere you look here there’s luxury cars, private schools,so much opportunity. Where I am from you are more likely to see a man driving a beat up lawnmower on the highway than you are a Mercedes, and it’s easier to find meth than it is to find a job. When Matthew says it’s a hopeless place he isn’t kidding. The last time I was in clay county was to attend my bestfriends funeral who was 16 at the time and died from a drug overdose. I am 25 years old and I have lost 7 people in my life who were close to me to addiction/drugs. On that list includes my dad,and my aunt. Thankyou for making these videos mark, because the struggles of the Appalachian people isn’t talked about enough.

We appreciate your Appalachian interviews so very much and thank you for interviewing ppl outside of Hollywoods version of Appalachia 👍.
This is, vastly, the way of life in our small towns / rural areas due to zero jobs, rampant availability of drugs and no positive male role models or a combination of the above.
Hopefully one day, you can make it to Mingo County, WV where we are deep in rich history ( called Bloody Mingo ) and full of all walks of life.
Thank you for giving insight to the true Deep Appalachia that seems to have been forgotten.
May God bless you on your endeavors.

Matthew, write a book my friend! About being a small-town business owner, your experience with drug addiction, your town. You are young and bright, I hope you transition off the heroin and back on track. The fire and theft is another pebble on the road of life. I hope you find spirituality outside of the religion that has impoverished much of our country... Take care of yourself. You seem very bright and self-aware.

Just seen Matthew Roberts video. What a wonderful , 'decent', incredibly intelligent guy. There's the everlasting question - are we the way we are 'cos of Nature (genes) or Nurture (life chances). Here is a man who proves that nurture (not nature) has such a big impact. I believe that Matthew Roberts has the brains, the decency and the bloody stregnth to overcome substance use. I am a drugs and alcohol counsellor and University lecturer in Psychology in the U.K. I've met many addicts, even married a recovering addict decades ago, and Matthew, I truly believe that you can choose to become who you'd like to be at any point in your life. Wishing you all the very best. x
