UPDATE: Jerry Lee completed an inpatient rehabilitation program in Bowling Green, KY in September of 2021. Following that, he enrolled at Victory Lane Sober Living in the same city. My wife and I own and operate that program. We provide safe, comfortable living environments that are free of drug and alcohol use. After watching this short documentary, I can say with full confidence that Jerry finally has all of the resources he needs to have a chance at succeeding in life and rekindling his relationships with his children.
So glad Jerry went into rehab and is trying to change his life. I hope he can find a job. He might have to move out of the area to find employment. Please keep us posted on his progress. He has a lot fans and we all wish him well and hope he can have a relationship with his children and find all the resources he needs to move on with his life.
While I’m sure the program you run is a good one, I’m afraid this guy has duped a LOT of folks! I’ve spent an hour reading comments and also looking at WHEN these comments ( especially from Jerry himself ) were posted and a few things stuck out that made it obvious this dude isn’t clean and is playing victim. First off, his sober date keeps changing. I’ve known quite a few who’ve struggled with addiction and 99% of them remember their sober date easier than their OWN birthday ! Red flag number 1. Red flag number 2- This lady Heather offered him employment in Alabama and in spite of her kind offer, along with Mark putting them in touch, he never took the offer and ended up in Bowling Green. I’m originally from Louisville Ky and I know that state and region like the back of my hand and, even if he is in BG he’s 90mins or less from his old area AND it’s not like that it’s difficult to find your substance of choice in BG. Anyone who’s been an addict will tell you that the farther away you get from the sources of your addiction, the better chance you have which imo is the main reason he didn’t go to Alabama. 3rd red flag- he sent multiple messages about setting up a gofundme . There’s nothing wrong with needing help but when you go on social media , ask for money multiple times for multiple reasons, there’s usually an ulterior motive. First he needed “ new clothes “ for his follow up interview with Mark when to my knowledge has never happened and even so, he was in old clothes for his first interview so why did he need a shopping trip to Macy’s for the second interview? It would’ve been FAR more believable if he had said he needed some decent clothes for job interviews etc. There are many many other things he said in these comment threads that raised my “ scamdar” ( scammer radar ) but I’ll leave everyone to read for themselves. Does he need help? Absolutely! But, only if he’s ready for it and from what I see here, he’s not. You see folks. When someone has addiction issues and are currently IN FULL addict mode, they become the worlds best opportunist. I feel sure when Mark first interviewed him, everything he said was as truthful as he could be. I’m pretty certain he was compensated in some small way for doing if. For MOST who do these interviews, they do the interview and move on with whatever lifestyle they’re living. In this case, he saw the outpouring of symptoms and compassion from the viewers , especially after Heather made her generous offer and the light bulb in his head went off! I’m sure one of his drug buddies pointed this out to him about doing gofundme etc. the only problem being, he’s not on a level intellectually that he knew how to even set one up. No, I’m not saying he’s dumb , just that with nearly his entire life being in some of the worst situations imaginable, he didn’t move through life with technology etc. the way most of us have. A cellphone for him was nothing more than a easy convenient way to call his dealer. He certainly wasn’t using it for its online banking or news feed! I wanted to make that clear before someone says I’m elitist or something for saying he’s not intellectually up to the times. As I said, I’m from Ky and I have friends and relatives all over the state including the area he’s from so, I have some in site into how things operate around there. I wish Jerry the best but, unless you want to pay for his next bag of dope, DONT send cash
I can put this man to work in a factory in Florence Alabama. Just a few hours South of Kentucky. I have friends who are drug counselors and work prescribing suboxone. I can help provide shelter. If he wants to connect, I will commit to my word.
Wow please make an update video if this rñball gets rolling for him, his consciousness is breaking through so clearly! He's asking for help and this nice lady can provide it, wow! #internet!
Its strange to see a grown man with the energy of a child who has been abused. The good thing is he wants help. Hang in there Jerry, you're on the right path.
@@jasminflower3814 he needs more than a job he needs emotional help and mental health and he needs guidance that's what he needs and as a man who grew up in apalachain myself I know what these people have been through and what a struggle it is and I left when I was old enough to went to college got a education and I'm very successful now and I'll never go back there until they take my body back to be layed to rest
I felt the same thing! He seems like he has a tortured soul, and tore me up! I saw a girl in the comments saying what a horrible man he is, and telling someone not to help him. But he needs the help! Hurt people>hurt people! I pray he gets the help he needs and a job, so he gains self worth! The poor man is broken, but it's not too late! He needs emotional help, rehab, and he needs someone to believe in him, who helps him believe in himself! I'm not meaning a relationship. He just needs to be surrounded by good people who lift him up and lead him in the right direction!
@@pamalawashington9371 most people deserve a second chance. No one wants to believe that we're all capable of horrible things. Like you said, surrounding one's self with good people is a gigantic step in the right direction. I have to believe that none is beyond redemption. Doesn't mean they shouldn't pay for their crimes, but should definitely depend on who, what those crimes were if they're ever allowed to be a part of the rest of the world again. Crimes against children......those are much more difficult to find any sympathy for.
Took twenty minutes of beating around all of his regrets before he gets to the fact he was sexually assaulted at 13. This is a severely broken man, God help him.
@@maxinewells7539 I almost missed it too. I stepped away from the computer to do something else as the video was nearing the end and I said, "Wait... Did I just hear that right?" and had to rewind a minute.
Here in the mountains there is nothing for the kids, there is nothing for the adults. We live half hour away from town and in town there is a Walmart and a McDonald’s that’s it’s. Especially us men need to tell our sons it’s ok to talk and cry about are feeling. America needs to do better on mental health.
Log Splitta 50 years ago there was land to buy and jobs that were not automated. The biggest land owner in my area is the railroad who was granted it way back when coal was rolling and now they lease it to a hunting club. Farmers don’t sell land and it gets handed down generations to generation. My family land was taken by eminent domain for a dam in the 70s. Mental health is getting worse because more and more we are deciding between food and clothes on our children’s back. Plus remember it still cost money to paint a house to, buy the welder, and fix a car if you have one thank god we have two. 50 years a we were building an infrastructure now it’s crumbling and politicians talk about rebuilding it but nothing ever happens.
Such a broken spirit! You can tell he wanted so much more for his kids and himself in life.Thank you for sharing your soul with us. The humanness is raw.
Randy Moran thanks Randy! I look like God to you? i will give you an answer, they are all children of God, Loved by God ❤️ the further we stray, the more we yearn for reunion

Adam Czarski yes it was hard to watch. That interview was another cry for help from him. I sensed so much pain, hopelessness and regret from his stories. I’ve definitely had my problems and traumas in life but nothing compared to this guy. How I wish there was a way to help him get out, get help and heal. Along with real support and change for so many that experience life in this way.....whether from their environment, family life or trauma.

I don't believe he really knows how deep his trauma is. Being a basically gentle soul, before things happened, it sounds like trauma was harder for him to process.
Thank you...I, too, have chronic ptsd and it’s so isolating. I have never used drugs or alcohol but I wonder about it bc I’m in a dark place most hours. Few people understand my state of mind. I think it’s why I watch these interviews🙏🏼

I can't read all that well but I can some ...i don't wanna think it was true but they are taters every where they can't stand for anyone to get help especially if it not help for them..
Amazing, amazing, amazing interview. I’ve watched quite a few of your interviews and what’s unique about this one, he’s not just answering questions he’s pouring out his soul. It’s absolutely an amazing intimate experience.
So much pain oozing out of this poor soul. He knows his mistakes and its more than evident he's remorseful. All he needs is a chance now that he's willing to change for his grandchildren. I wish I could help him. 😞
This may be the most precious interview. I cried at the end. I fell in love in 23 minutes and that is the beauty of your art, Mark. He says so much that can really help us all when we listen to the depth of what he shares. This is incredibly powerful, and i thank you again, Mark for all you do. *hugs*
I love this precious man, too. The spirit he was born with is tender. Now, if he can get healed of his traumas, he can live without those heavy burdens.
These Appalachian interviews have been fascinating Mark, I really connect with these people. All of your interviews offer an amazing insight into the lives of people who we normally don't get to hear from.
The pain in this gentleman’s voice, breaks my heart! I’m barely into the video, and my heart just goes out to him! I’m sure this will sound ridiculous, but aside from the desire to help him financially, this man needs a hug! You can see a deep kindness in his eyes. A lot of pain, but also a wonderful kindness. If the opportunity was available, I can’t imagine all of the great things he could have done. I live in Kentucky in the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati area and whenever I’m down driving down his way, it’s like an entirely different world. Kentucky needs to do better with the drug problem, especially down in that part of the Commonwealth.
I hope his son and his son's wife or girlfriend get to see this video. One thing this guy should definitely be proud of is taking the advice from others and speaking up. Even though it appears to be painful for him to talk about some of this stuff, part of him has to feel relief. I wish the best for this guy.
@Tee Twetherlow I was referring to him trying to talk to his son about choosing the right path. But yes, unfortunately the point you make is very true. Most simply can't imagine the pain and scaring those kind of acts leave. It's terribly sad.
Wishing JerryLee all the best. Reading the comments I see he's in recovery. Hope and pray he continues his recovery. What a raw interview, he was so honest.
I don't believe he should be blamed for any of his misfortune. His pain can be felt by anyone with a heart. He really appreciates his doctor and all the help he can get.
This man's story is so touching. You can almost feel his struggle, to love his home but not be able to survive in his home. He is still grieving from his childhood. I do hope someone can reach out and help him; I'm sure he still has dreams and desires to simply make it, find some peace and happiness in this world.

Did you notice that as he was trying to tell his story and really trying to bare his soul the interviewer seemed to ignore what he was trying to explain and changed the subject to what he wanted to know that’s the problem he needed to let him get it out all of it !! He does seem like a broken man and I believe that if he had different parents ( FATHER ) I think his life would have been awesome you can tell that he knows right from wrong but the environment that he was raised in was an environment to fail in and sadly he did. Maybe the person making these extremely sad videos can help him to try and achieve what you can tell that he want’s and that’s a better life and he’s still young enough to have that happen !! I want to help him and I don’t even know him but mister interviewer video maker maybe you can try and help him that would be so awesome if he could finally have the type of life that you can hear him say that he wishes he could of had. 😥
I hope that many many people see these interviews with my fellow Kentuckians. There are so many good people here that deserve to be heard. Kentucky gets a lot of bad labels that just arent true and I praise Mark for helping peel of those labels with his interview style and non judgemental approach to those he engages with! You are a beautiful person Mark, thank you!
I have been watching these interviews binge style. The thing that strikes me the most is that most of them seem so disappointed in themselves for being like their parents. To live in a constant state of shame really is a recipe for constant relapse. To wrestle with the shame and the enviornment they live in.... They try so hard to fight yet can't find enough self love and self respect to get out of this cycle of abuse and addiction. Depression, loneliness, the environment.... From me to all of you fighting for your lives out there, you are worth it. There's no doubt about it in my mind.
There is such a tenderness about Jerry. A good and gentle heart. It's hard to hear how he's been treated and how it's hurt him so much. Praying for you 🙏 I hope you can find some peace and live a good life.
This is by far one of my favorite interviews. The impact of molestation and abuse is 100% apparent throughout these videos that it causes so much trauma. Please Mark give us a breakdown on what we need to do to help change the course of this mans life.

People who have never been face to face with people from here have no idea how hard things are for some. One thing about people from appalachia for the most part they will give you the shirt off their back if they have one to give.
@BrewCity Every man that's ever gave me an opportunity in my life has been a black man, trusting a white kid from the hood. They never had to trust me. But they fed me when my father couldn't provide, they clothed me when I couldn't afford to buy my own clothes, and they are more my family than some of my actual blood. To say you sound simple, is to say the least.
Somewhat Outdoorzie the people with the least to give will always give the most. Cape Breton Island Canada is pretty grim as well , I know because I live it. ✌️
@BrewCity I do think you could say more with fewer words. By the way, you may not want to use London as your example. In 2018, it surpassed NYC in homicides for the first time in two centuries.
He's a handsome fellow. Look at that strong chin, defined jawline, deep-set eyes and proportional nose. He could have made a great actor/model in another life. Maybe still?
It's so fricken weird. I cannot see if a man is good looking. I mean really I can't. Are deep set eyes more attractive on a man than non deep set eyes? I'd have to ask my wife if a guy is attractive. People dont believe me, but I really cant tell. Maybe I can tell if a guy should be ugly but not the other way around.
Jerry Lee is an amazing man. I connected with him through social media before I ever knew of this video. He came across my page and I support people in recovery. He is such an amazing friend and supports me in my recovery more than he will ever know. We talk almost every day and I just want everyone to know he is so much better than he was. I grew up and still reside in Appalachia. Some of the most Beautiful places on earth. What really makes it special are the people. 90% are hard working, great parents and we help one another in need, family, friend even a stranger. The other 10% may be broken but they'll never quit. The people of Appalachia are the type of humans you wanna be in a foxhole with.
Lord Jesus heal this man’s pain!! I’m heartbroken with his story. He needs to get out of there and he needs support, education, job, housing and therapy. I’m sitting here in tears and thanking God Almighty for his many, many blessings. I have no right to complain about anything. I am truly humbled. I pray that I may show love, kindness and empathy for people of this world.
A broken shell of a man. 😞😞😞 Jerry Lee don't let what you've been through define you. You're not too old for school. It's adult learning centers. Get counseling for your trauma and addiction. Wishing you the best. Hopefully we'll see you again in an update.
If he had guidance and encouragement as a child, this man probably would have gone far in life. But sadly, went down the only path that he was shown. He seems to have a good heart and wants a chance for the future, hopefully he will get that opportunity (not only for himself, but for his children and grandchild).
Parents not providing guidance, and not caring about the future of the people they bring into the world, should be charged with a criminal act. So much wasted potential. I was 56 before I had a nervous breakdown and finally realised how messed up my family is. I tried to leave home at 15, had a job lined up and wasn't allowed. It would have changed things. I didn't even know why I wanted to leave. I hear this from others too, they just knew they didn't want to be there. Last time I saw my mother I lit into her about all of it. If dad was alive now he'd be in jail.
@@jerryroark1793 Jerry, I didn't turn my life around until I was 56. I never did drugs or anything but the low self esteem and family hatred just dragged me down. You can turn things around, but my biggest lesson is that you have to do it on your own. Romantic relationships have to wait. We are always looking for someone to make us feel needed and wanted, but we have to be alone first. I had so much shame too until recently. It's THEM that should carry the shame, not us.
living here in johnson county kentucky i know his story is just one in a million i turn 40 soon i took a lot of his same path it easy to say life is what you make of it when you had an easy way to go but here in eastern kentucky very few of us got that between the coal companies leaving the fact no one could stop you from quitting school at 16 back then and the pill mills and meth labs coming the opportunity to fail is far greater than that to succeed
Welcome to growing up in the hood and what every racist Trump supporter who has no idea, it's literally the same shit we deal with in the hood. Lack of real gainful opportunities, education treated as a joke, nothing to do but make things happen for yourself, no matter how you can. You do what you can, because if not, you'll starve.
Hustle Bones it’s that right wing argument Ben Shapiro makes blaming blacks to just make better choices while ignoring the circumstances. It’s that pick yourself up by the boot strapes philosophy when they claim Christianity which is to love your neighbor.
You are right. And this is the same thing that happens in the inner cities. This is why I hate Trump so much. The problems we have are the same but he pits the people one against the other. Why? Well, because if we all got together against the real enemies, who are people like Trump, by the way, we would be an unstoppable force. Some folks hate others so much that they can't get over that part of it to join forces even though all lives would improve. I mean, the Confederate flag is so important that this guy and you and the guy who just answered you (Hustle Bones) should suffer this way? I am not saying you are a Trump supporter. I am saying that I am sick over how many of the people in this country have been tricked into thinking the problems they have are "others", when there are no real others. They are just oppressed in a different location, but always by the same people.
@@jerryroark1793 I know you've heard this before, but you need to, for starters, grow close to God. Then learn what the virtues are and try to develop them in yourself. I wish you all the best.

OMG. This interview broke my heart. I cried when he said his son thought they were camping, he never knew they were really living out of a car. We should all be grateful for the roofs we have over our heads, the hot water we use freely for showers, whatever food we may have to feed our hunger, the clothes on our bodies, the shoes that protect the soles of our feet so we can go to the jobs we may have so we can afford the bare necessities. We need to STOP being ungrateful for not having the fancy big expensive cars because one day you may be living out of that car you complained about every day. I don't like saying "count your blessings" because blessings shouldn't be recognized by a number, they should be appreciated no matter how many we have.

With a job, a home, things to do, we sometimes question our purpose in life so I can only imagine what this guy goes through on a daily basis. My heart on this one just shattered...but what really broke me was to find out at the end. That even here when we get down to brass tacs, sexual abuse and no support is at the root. And the fact that Jerry doesn't even think to mention it as a factor until the end says how much work we have to do as as a society to shine a brighter light on children's rights and paedophilia. That's what it is and it's destroying generations. As adults it's our job to talk about this. No more secrets. Children have rights and until they can protect themselves we need to do it. Period.
Hardcore Fundamentalist Right Wing Christians FILL these awful communities all through that area. Abuse is hidden and routinely covered up by people who KNOW it's going on. The churches know it.

Similarities between Jerry Lee and many who live in some inner cities are so apparent. We're more alike than we are different. All we need to do is acknowledge each other and treat each other with *respect and empathy.* Regardless of socioeconomic level, education level, race, gender...meet each other where they are. I'm from Western Kentucky and I lived in Lexington Kentucky for 9 years and I had a good friend from Clay County. Kentucky is paradise and can be hell bc of the sins of people. I reckon the whole world is like that but I love Kentucky because it is so special and so is Jerry. You're our brother and I love you and I thank you.
Poverty, drugs, alcohol, joblessness, homelessness, hardships....sees no difference in mankind. We ALL have the potential to be affected by these dark shadows. Oh...Jerry, if I could help you, I most certainly would. 💔
Wow.. I feel for this man and wish him well. I hope he can turn his life around for himself and his family. He seems like such a sweet person. Breaks my heart the pain he has endured..
Mark, thank you for another extraordinary film showing what you seek to describe; I really appreciate that there are those of us (not me) who do provide a daily voice to so many in their uniquely difficult times.
I watched many of these videos...I’ve done several jail ministries and worked with men that have been locked up numerous times throughout their lives. One thing that seems to be common is, no family!! Especially fathers! I’m not a parent, but I’m so thankful for my family! It breaks my heart to watch some of these videos. These people are so broken and it all starts at home.
I'm watching this on 6/1/24 and my heart goes out to this man. You can hear in his voice and see in his demeanor that he wants to do the right thing. I see in the comments that he choose the right path and I can only hope and pray that he is doing well.
My heart goes out to this man. I'm from southern va and I know many people just like this...some people dont understand that some of these people never stood a chance.
Facts. I'm from KY and have friends in Manchester, Corbin, the hollows. I graduated, married, moved, had children and my life is totally different. One decision. One instance. 1 job. Anything can derail life for any of us. I empathize with him.
As a native Kentuckian not far from Clay County, I can attest that the youth of rural areas are starved for a meaningful outlet. I was addicted to alcohol before I was even old enough to legally purchase it. I later became addicted to opiates and an now (after over a decade of drug and alcohol abuse) in a medication assisted recovery program and have been for 5 years. Kentucky and West Virginia are rife with drugs because the youth are starved for anything that will produce dopamine. Everybody wants to be happy and feel good, unfortunately for some, we find drugs before we find true happiness.
I am from this area. From Harlan county which is close and very similar. It breaks my heart to see these areas now. It is a forgotten and neglected part of our country for some reason. Many, many stories like his from this area. God bless him and hopeful he is doing well.
@OF brotherhood if you do it the right way it is a great medicine. Go to AA/NA meeting, get a sponsor, work the steps. You’ll stay sober. Subprime allowed me to do that. How is that a bad thing?
@OF brotherhood Suboxin has definitely not brought me down , do you get counseling or therapy along with the medication? Suboxin has brought out of depression along with the counseling
The tree of life all branches grow in different directions but we all come from the same route . I see him sitting around a warm fire and telling all types of stories with such a soothing voice , wise man . Best Wishes for you .
He's the most genuine person I think I've seen on this channel. His emotions are so raw. I certainly wish that he does get the help he needs. He's such a gentle soul. Bless you Jerry Lee.
Never too late. Wishing you strength to push through the barriers you face. May support come your way to help you work through your painful past and lead to peace love and happiness that you are worthy of.
It just breaks my heart knowing how these people live and how their lives are. Such hardship and unfortunate times. I have to be so grateful for what I have today. Thank you for opening my heart and mind to the people of our world we live in. You make a difference! 🙏🏽
He seems like a good person. His stiry is just the inner-city. When people are not exposed to resources or education, you have high crime and drug use.
Praise God
Thank you for helping this gentle man.
Thank you for the work you do sir! Glad to know he has a fighting chance!
Heather, This is such a nice offer. Please email me and I’ll Pu you two in contact with each other. Thanks, Mark

@@Davidrcobb I agree

People who have never been face to face with people from here have no idea how hard things are for some. One thing about people from appalachia for the most part they will give you the shirt off their back if they have one to give.
@BrewCity I have to pretend you realize how stupid your comment is.
@BrewCity That said, poor blacks today aren't emulating anyone but the blacks they see around them.
Lol.
I was thinking the same.
@@prentfaiyaz this is Jerry Lee I would love to get a chance to make a movie or something like that but like me I will never get to do that
I thought the same. He must have been very handsome when he was younger, and he still is. I'd talk hours with this man if I could.
@@brutalictesku that👍what😁👍 would love to be.how can I get to 👍 this
It's so fricken weird.

This man breaks my heart! Praying healing and deliverance over his drug addiction and depression. Bless you Jerry, keep going!
If he had guidance and encouragement as a child, this man probably would have gone far in life. But sadly, went down the only path that he was shown. He seems to have a good heart and wants a chance for the future, hopefully he will get that opportunity (not only for himself, but for his children and grandchild).
True I did go down the wrong path
Hustle Bones pure facts

Is it any wonder that drugs are the outlet, the answer to numb the mind from the horrors he's been through but he's still got that spark, that glimmer of hope to achieve something.
What a character. Hopefully, he finds his purpose

Period.
💯 agree. We have got to focus on this and bring it to the light. Such a major problem worldwide yet so so hidden
Children can never and will never be able to protect themselves. This is why they need protection by caring and responsible adults.

Hurt is deep... hurt is contagious. Hurt can infect. Hurt can cloud and cast judgment.
