    According to Diana’s accounts, she and Charles both become good friends at the end, and co-parenting their children. Some of her friends has heard the story from Diana that Charles often visited Kensington Palace. Although nothing we ever heard of from Charles’s side of the story, he never talked about it anyway.

      I have read a lot about Diana and Charles over the years. I was 17 when she died. I remember watching t.v and reading about this couple when it played out in real time.
      I think Charles and Diana were both victims of circumstances. I don't think Charles was ever in love with Diana, but he probably tried to fall in love with her, and just never did..it seemed so much was going on in their marriage and both had so much traumatic childhood damage neither was able to meet the others needs.
      Plus there was always Camilla, who he was in love with, and also probably felt entitled to. His father had affairs. Anyway, they had their sons and I think they clearly both loved their kids.

    I'm a divorced history nerd. History is why I watch this show. This scene not only made me remember the divorce process all over, but it's like a sort of closure for folks who have studied late 20th century history. You really wanted to see these two work, even if you're like me and was born too late to even remember Di passing away.

    • @DenaInWyo
      @DenaInWyo Год назад +1

      I am old enough to remember, and it's been interesting. General public opinion of Diana at the time was not the benevolent humanitarian nearly so much as it was the possibly unstable, playing around with an exotic wealthy man. It wasn't a positive public opinion, no matter if it was accurate or not. When she died, she was immediately promoted to sainthood and sort of a mass hysteria of grieving took place. I stand firmly by Charles being unfairly held solely to blame for this. It was NOT all his fault, nor Camilla's either. Of course, if you post things like this publicly you'll get fried on the internet. Thing is, every king and queen crowned has had their opposition. This is no different than any other period in history other than we're actually witnessing it.

      Aunty Jo,
      Fiction.
      Party line B.S.
      Every major event in The Crown is in The Diana Chronicles, by Tina Brown which was published ten years before The Crown.
      How did Tina Brown (and other biographers and historians) somehow make up the same "fiction" that Peter Morgan "made up" for The Crown? Do they all have ESP with each other?
      Hmm. Very mysterious.
      The literature - revering British people should be ashamed of the flagrant abuse of the word "fiction" in recent years.

      Exactly. Diana said that on the day their divorce was finalised they both sat down and cried together. I think they were both so relieved to have the stress behind them. They also became friends after the divorce. Also Diana was still very much involved with and deeply in love with Haznat Kahn during and after the divorce.
      Diana and Haznat didn't break up until 1997.
      This was an interesting take on a fictional scene from the Crown.

    Why couldn't these two have had a marriage counselor early on? If Camila had any decency she could have advised Diana on how to be the wife Charles needed. Diana, in return, could have accepted the fact that Charles and Camila had a friendship that meant a lot to him. She could have allowed the two to meet, say once a month for lunch, AS FRIENDS only. Diana could have hired a riding instructor to help her get over her fear of horses and then joined Charles at Highgrove, so they could have spent more time together in the country, which Charles loved. When Diana started to get so much attention and it hurt Charles's ego, Diana could have expressed sympathy for her husband and asked what she could do to get the focus back on HIM, the future monarch. Maybe he would have given her credit for caring about him and trying, even if she failed to simmer down the "Diana-mania." ....Just some random thoughts!

No one was truly at fault here, and none of it should have happened to begin with. At the end of it, Diana is dead and Charles and Camilla have each other as they were meant to so many years ago. It's certainly tragic. If Diana's sons are good with Camilla though, so am I. That's the most telling ending of the tale. I wish more people would look at it that way and lay off the internet trash talk.

    This scene absolutely blew me away and I have my own analysis. My analysis leans towards the idea of Charles and his self entitled Narcissism. I personally think that Charles was coming by to see where he was at in Diana's life now. Was she open to "continue" relations? Diana looked Hot in the revenge dress. I think when Charles could see that Diana was not open to and open relationship, he lost it and left. This is just my thoughts and opinion.

      I don’t think that’s the case. Or at least that wasn’t the feeling I got from watching it. Charles wasn’t there for lust. Otherwise he would have been with her more when they are together. I think no matter how broken their marriage ended up being, there are still some affections for each other. After all they had two sons together and had been close to one another at one point, regardless how short that moment was. When divorce finally came, they were both somehow lost and uneasy.

    The worst part of this show apart from the fictional poorly written melodrama is the amount of people who believe it’s a documentary and factual. It is. Nit even close to the truth. There is no mention of Diana’s many affairs with married men. Diana masterfully played the media and the world and they took her side. Some of us loved her for faults as well as good points. I remember it all. My mother and I followed this avidly. Diana’s first affair was with a her bodyguard Barry Mannakee, shortly after Harry’s birth. When the affair was discovered he was transferred. That’s when Charles considered the marriage irreconcilable and started his own affair, with Camilla and Lady Tyron. Sadly I believe that Charles and Diana did have a deep love for each other, but they were completely unsuitable and incompatible. Either way I don’t need to watch this crap yo know what happened

Charles mistress #3 was Janet Jenkins.

    • @trb2888
      @trb2888 Год назад +1

      Barry Mannakee happened in 1985, but Harry was born 1984. Sources are mixed as to whether or not it was an emotional attachment, or physical. Either way: why would a 25 year old woman lean on a bodyguard for affection, physical or not? Because she knew her husband didn’t want her! Charles is tragic, but his insecurity, jealousy, and abiding feelings are what drove Diana to look for love elsewhere, and I don’t blame her one bit. She was far too young (and trapped in a dynastic marriage) to accept near-celibacy for the rest of her life.

      The series is hypocritical in the extreme. So Charles says they have let the nation down? I give up. He didn't care 2 hoots about the nation. If he did, he would have sacrificed the relationship with his bit on the side, Mrs Camilla Bowles and dropped her. Either that or he could have given up the throne. It's that simple. No mystery about it. smh. But he wanted everything, his marriage intact, his bit on the side and the throne. I think he has had his punishment though! His dearest mommy lived long and now it won't be long before William takes over. Men are notorious for not living long and divorced men? Oh well... No.
      He was traumatized enough when his de-facto grandfather, Lord Mountbatten, was assassinated -Charles was about 30. He would never have put William and Harry through that.
      Also, a car accident in another country is a logistical mess.
      If Prince Charles had wanted Diana gone, he had plenty of resources
      to commission a sharp shooter to do the job efficiently and disappear, to influence Scotland Yard to determine the death a tragic mystery. Just awful. Unsolvable.
      Although, once William and Harry became adults they wouldn’t have allowed that to stand, so even this would have become messy.
      It doesn’t matter. Charles didn’t want William and Harry to lose their mother.
