- In this video I will be showing you how to quickly disassemble and reassemble drum brakes. There is something to be learned about working efficiently and still getting the job done correctly!
This is a very quick demo and it is missing some crucial details about doing the job properly so I highly recommend watching the full video in order to learn everything you need to know.....this is just a teaser video to show how fast it can be done for my automotive students.
This is another episode of a new series on how to become a GEARHEAD! If you have ever wondered how people know so much about cars and are absolutely crazy about anything with a motor, then this is a great series for you. This is geared towards people that have no knowledge of cars but want to learn; however, the content in my videos does try to make solid connections between theory and practical applications so even seasoned gearheads will find the info useful. Tired of paying other people money to fix your car? Then ya gotta learn this stuff!
Are you loving the Gearhead series? Share with your friends and get them interested in wrenching on cars and saving money.....it's never been easier! Yeah in the beginning it takes a while and it's a good idea to have someone who knows how to do it too. I have a longer more detailed instructional drum brake video you should check out too. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!

OMG I'm first for once. Thanks for helping me with drums. Blew out wheel cylinder due to be out of adjustment. I will be converting to rear disc because these are not as easy as it looks. Fighting with hold down pins and careful pushing wheel cylinder to far forward or backwards.
Hey, congrats on first to comment! No worries, glad I could help ya out. Whatcha working on? Thanks for the watch!
4:50 thats a very good hint 🎉
Yeah, that and much more is in the longer drum brake video. Lots of awesome tips and tricks. Thanks for the watch!
Nice! Saved and subbed
Cheers, thanks for the sub! Lot's more where this came from!
Went to do the brakes on daughters car, to my dismay they were DRUM!😢 Found a different video, either way, they suck, especially without the fancy tools. If you dont have one, would love to see a Drum to Disc conversion in a future vid. Between pincab and mechanic stuff great channel.
You watched my longer drum video? It would have earned you several points of Dad skillz.....probably enough to level up. You can do these without special tools but it is easier with them. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
The last time I had a car with drum brakes was my 1989 Chevrolet Beretta GTU. I sold that car back in 1997 and I guarantee you that car is long rusted out and compacted into a cube.
Now that is a name I haven't heard in a long time. My Dad had one of those and I learned how to change my first oil change on that. You'd be surprised how you'll still need to work on drum brakes. All kinds of vehicles still use them including trailers. Thanks for the watch!
How to tell the difference between primary brake shoes and the secondary.
Is there another way to check the clearance if we don’t have a caliper?
I have a longer diy drum brake video which is way more detailed, you should check it out. As for setting clearance on the drum, you can tell by the friction it takes to slide on the drum. It should just slide on so set it till it won't go on and then adjust about 1mm smaller once it just starts to go on but tight. It is easier with a drum caliper though. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Where do they have classes like this on Long Island NY?
No idea but I plan to eventually run workshops like this later once the channel takes off. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench 🤔
Maybe even do travelling workshops around the world. I know a guy doing that right now.
These brakes clearly didn't slow you down😅
Bazinga! Nope, I ate them for brakefast.
