Very much appreciated..... I rebuilt mine last night and it runs perfectly (after seeing your second video lol). Thanks again you saved me over $600..........
Hey the video was very easy to understand and very informative. But I have a question on a different subject. The hydro-gear on my mower is making a lot of cracklings noises, could you give me any idea about the reason why is doing it. You don’t actually have to answer because I think I’ll be taking it to a repair shop but, I just want to know. Thanks for the video
thanks for your comment. I do have some minor bubbles and it may just be enough to cause my problem. The cylinder block is smooth on top and i am trying to find out if it should be smooth causing a lost in pressure or should it be raised to create a tighter seal at the value plate. I can run in reverse just no forward drive.
What parts do you need for your rebuild, just seal or all the internals. Ebay was the best spot for the seals for me. but the internals are best from the Manufacture call them and they will tell you where to get them or sell them to you over the phone.
Why did you re-seal this pump? did it have visual leaks or is it possible that it was sucking air because seals were bad with out a visual of the problem. I have one that all the internals look good. I have not replaced the seals until i know that is what the problem is. It seems to be a cavitation problem. Still researching the problem.
My mower was working perfect but my hydro pump was leaking so I changed all the gaskets/seals on the left pump. I got it all put back together and now the wheel doesn’t want to move forward or backwards. Any advice to look for?
I have a rounded hex head bolt on the diamond shaped cap that I can not remove, but I know it was installed backwards. What can I do to remove that cap?
For Bolts like that I take a grinder and grind a slot in the top for a flat head screw driver and the us a impact to get it off. It should be one you use a hammer to make work. hope this helps you out.
I have a Hydro Gear BDP 10A 307 It is on a walkbehind mower that fell off of the ramps as I was taking it off the truck and bent the rod or whatever it's called that sticks out over the wheels and that's where it is leaking. Do I repair or replace? Thanks
Hi.. just bought a secondhand Scag Wildcat which seemed to be in pristine shape. Got it home and of course it leaks :( It appears to be coming from the union of the top and bottom "halves" (quotes because I know the bottom is longer). I am hoping it's not the shaft seal because I'd hate to have to pull the whole thing apart already, but I noticed you didn't change the case seal. Do those tend to go bad, and/or is there any other special reason mine might be leaking from there? It did get bounced around a bit on the ride home, but nothing I wouldn't expect from regular work. Thanks!
giantsean the case halfs do not usually leak not that it can't happen. Depending on if you have time before mowing season I would pull the pump and look. If it's a slow leak I would run it. The person selling it probably got the pressure washer in there to clean it and knocked of a dirt clot. If it's a fast leak you have no choice. Good luck man.
Thanks. At first it seemed fast (left about a 6" puddle in about 5 days) and now if I clean it I can see it start to weep out right away. I stuck a wrench on the four end cap bolts and they were already very snug... I wonder if there's a gasket in there at all lol. At any rate, more than a couple of people have mentioned changing the gasket while it's still on the unit. I don't know how I feel about that but I'll give it a look and worst case I can pull the whole thing. Do they need to be bled out after? Thanks again!
Just looked inside the reservoir at the oil level. Assuming it was full at the time, it looks like it lost about 1-1.5" in the 5-6 days I've had it. I keep cleaning it off and it pools at the seam within a couple of hours.
I have a scag mower with a hydro pump that moves to 3/4 position easily and after has a hard time opening all the way When the power is off it moves freely Do you know what could be causing this Thanks
with out seeing your pump I would have to guess it the bearings in the bottom that once they have pressure from the pump on them they are hard to move. I would just take it apart and take a look the off season is coming up best time to do it.
+grasscutter88 it will depend on how you use the pump. Are the yards your mowing flat or have grade, is the grass over grown. how fast do you change directions, what mower is it on and how much does it weigh, how often are you changing the oil, their a lot of different thing that can effect the life of the pump but i go with 200-500 hours

great video! im sure you saved a bunch of people a tun of money. and thats needed and well appreciated in this economy.
I could Visualy see a leak but if you have a vacume problem you should be able to see air bubbles in your oil reserve. hope this helps you out.

@@nathanvega6281 with out opening it up and looking at it I would be just guessing.
@@nathanvega6281 sorry reply below was from me didn't notice I was on my daughters account.
I opened it u and had to replace the bearings.
Thanks for replying though.
Regarding removing the pump drive pulley in order to remove the pump from mower. Is that pulley attached with a taper lock bushing?
Can you tell me what the torch specs for the 4 big screws are?

It should not be smooth it should have recess for oil to pass through if it's ground smooth that needs to be replaced the cylinder block is bad

can you replace only the outer shaft bearing without complete disassembly? My pump # 106-9470
Nicely done. Very informative.

Where can we order parts I got chatter a and pressure issues more chatter under more load.
Where do you get the rebuild kit from?
You ever figure that out?

You put the charge pump cover on 180 degrees off.
@@prebaned I tried it both ways and it still won’t work
Wheel locked up?
Too much of the assembly is missing from this video?

look at the pump and go to the pump manufacturer for parts, but seal you can get just about any where.
How do you find the internal parts? What manufacturer? Dixie Chopper? Or the pump company? How do you call the manufacturer for pump parts?
bypass valves get seized all the time because they never get used but it will turn just put some wd-40 on it over night.
junktinker
This one here need new seal's all the spec for this model can be found on the hydro web site.

Do I repair or replace? Thanks
If you can get the shaft then I would just repair it with a new one other wise I would replace and hold onto the old one for parts.
Where would you suggest I look for a shaft? Thanks for the replay.
do a web search for the pumps manufacturer then call them and ask if they sell the part .
Helpme please i need Fix my scag 48" to make straight stripes
hope that helps.

How many hours do you get out of these pumps, assuming they are properly maintained?
+grasscutter88 it will depend on how you use the pump. How much did it cost to do a rebuild vs replace?
the coast to repair at the time was less then a 100.00 that was parts and oil.
glad I could help
You still rebuild these pumps?
no I don't I don't mow lawns any more.
I seen 100s of videos & i don't see any Mecanic working on a dixiechoper mower. Or Maybe cuz chopper hardly ever breaks.i m a dixiechoper fan.
You need to be wearing rubber gloves because you don't want to get body oil on any of the parts
add link to my info above
You didn't actually show replacing the seals. So it was a waste of my time.
sorry to have waisted your time but I though that was just so simple that no one could mess up putting the ring in the grove
